Ezekiel suddenly took another step closer. Right up to the iron bars.
"Alpha." Gandrik's voice came immediately. He reached for Ezekiel's shoulder.
No response. It was as though the wolf king hadn't heard him at all.
Bryar also stepped forward. His eyes carefully studied Ezekiel's face. "How are you feeling?"
Only the rogue's heavy breathing echoed through the cell.
A full minute passed.
Bryar sighed quietly. "I'll assume you're feeling better." His rough voice softened. "You've been standing on your own this long already."
Only then did Ezekiel answer. "I am." His voice was raspy. Weak. Barely above a whisper. "Better."
Because he had seen her again. Even like this. Even if every heartbeat still hurt. Even if his own body felt like it was slowly falling apart. She was still here.
Bryar and Gandrik exchanged a brief glance. Neither of them knew what to say.
