CHAPTER 200
Vextral strode over to the doorway, the sharp smell of blood and chemicals mixing in the air, almost stinging his throat. He could see Ezekiel's still figure kneeling before the pit, his hand pressed against the small glass in its center.
"Stavrus," Vex called out, his voice echoing through the ruined chamber. "We have to wrap this up. There's a lot to clean and move before dawn."
Ezekiel didn't look at him at first; his gaze was fixed on the darkness below through the glass.
Vex continued, his tone firm and edged with impatience. "My mission is to retrieve someone for you and keep her safe until I bring her to you. That was the deal. You said to get her out—and I will. But now it's not just her." He folded his arms, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You added a few more for me to keep for now, remember? You added more work for me to do, so let's get moving. I'll make sure everything's arranged."
