"It is now 0600. Breakfast will be served in 10 minutes. Tardiness will not be tolerated and will result in consequences."
Ethan looked up at the intercom in his cube room where the robotic voice came from. It doesn't matter what the robotic voice said because Ethan has already been up for hours, he couldn't sleep. Today is the one day of the year, the only day of the year that he has a chance, a chance to escape.
Ethan lives in the Mystic Investigation Facility or MIF. He used to live there with his 9 other brothers and sisters, but now he was the only one left alive.
50 years ago, 3 years after the first Mystic was born, a new mystic was born every other year. After the 10th Mystic breathed his first breath, Mystics were born every other month. The government then declared that Mystics were a danger to society, acquired the first 10, and made special laws against Mystics:
1. Mystics are not allowed to use their abilities unless those abilities were required as a public service to contribute to society.
2. Mystic children will be required to go to a separate school.
3. Mystics are required to wear a specified bracelet so that citizens are able to identify the Mystics.
4. Restaurants and other public establishments have the right to refuse service to Mystics if the owner feels that the said Mystic is a danger to other customers.
5. If any Mystic refuses to abide by these laws it will result in imprisonment.
The original 10 Mystics are known, so far, as the strongest, and the 2nd of the Original 10 is Ethan.
Out of the 50 years Ethan has lived in the MIF, 40 of them he was not allowed to talk and 10 of them he was alone. Even though he has lived for 50 years, his body is still 15 because at the age of 15 he maxed out his regeneration ability by enduring all the experiments and beatings performed on him.
Ethan puts on his white shirt and holey jeans. He is tall, skinny, and abnormally pale. He has pitch black hair, which is now a very rare color, and stunning red eyes. After getting dressed Ethan walks into the blinding hallway from his cell-like room. As he enters into the hallway the robotic voice reminds him:
"After breakfast you will start leveling up your Ice manipulation ability to try and max it. You will do this for 3 hours then work for another 3 hours leveling up your Empathic ability which you will also try to max. Remember that you can level up your ability by-"
[practicing skills that relate to your ability for example, if you study phycology you will level up your Empathy ability.]
Ethan follows along with the robotic voice. Over the course of 40 years Ethan has heard the same message and now knows it word for word. He could easily become the spokesperson.
Ethan has 6 abilities but has managed to hide 3 of them. The workers at the MIF only know of the 3: Regeneration, Empathy, and Ice manipulation. In fact, his Regeneration ability is the only reason Ethan has survived the abuse and experiments that his brothers and sisters couldn't. The downside is that Ethan's abusers can go all out on him without worrying about killing him.
The cafeteria has the same blinding white walls as the halls and his room, and is filled with tables and chairs. As Ethan ate the slop that was considered breakfast, he went over his escape plan in his head:
[Around 12 the supply trucks will come in carrying a year's worth of food and equipment. During this time I will kill the power because everyone will be frantic getting all the supplies together and out of the supply tucks. After the power is out the emergency lights will activate, but I could easily penetrate the doors. The only problem will be the people, their inside voices and feelings. I will just have to kill- no knock out everyone around a 10 foot radius as soon as possible, then- ]
"Another refuge group of Mystics were found where Mystics were practicing their powers. All non-Mystics in affiliation were shot and all Mystics were shocked and imprisoned. Now back to today's forecast."
Ethan stared at the TV mounted on the wall blankly, as he realized one of the most difficult obstacles of all, Shockers. Shockers are devices invented to be attached to a weapon of choice to use on a Mystic. When a Mystic is shocked with a Shocker they temporarily restrict the use of the shocked Mystic's ability. The reason they are such a nuisance is because they can be attached to any weapon, long range or short range.
"Shit"
"Did you just speak?"
Ethan knew exactly who that stern manly voice belonged to, the government official who looks after Ethan. His name is Robert but his friends called him Dick, that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about him.
"Um, yeah. Are you deaf? I said 'shit'."
Under any other circumstance Ethan would never have said what he said but he has already been caught so why not throw in some insults.
"You brat! Stand up!"
Ethan knew what was coming but this was just all part of his plan. If he kept talking he would get a beating and get sent to the closet. The closet, a room used as solitary confinement for weeks. A 5 by 5 room and one of the few places with no cameras. That is exactly what Ethan needed.
Ethan stands and without turning around says in his snarkiest tone
"WOW! You must be really stupid to use the word 'brat' on someone who is what? 20 years older than you, you incompetent moron."
When he is done talking he turns around and immediately gets struck in the face. Ethan is hit so hard that he instantly passes out.
Ethan awakes in a pitch black room with a giant electrically locked metal door. His face has already healed but after being knocked out Richard had also kicked him in the ribs. As they heal Ethan feels each of the 3 broken ribs moving back into place and stitching themselves back up. He winces as the bones move. Even though he has a maxed out regeneration ability, it is not painless. After sitting for a few minutes the bones heal.
"It is getting faster." Ethan says, half surprised.
Ethan stands up and stretches. When he is done he says excitedly,
"Okay time to break out of this hell hole."
