Chapter 489 - Pokemon master of tactics: Chapter 489

Everyone settled into position, the formation holding exactly as Alex had planned. He didn't rush into action, instead taking the first moments to calmly execute his buff strategy, issuing precise commands as his Pokémon reinforced themselves for what was coming.

The air grew heavier with each passing second.

Then the first wave arrived.

A handful of weaker Pokémon broke ahead of the main group, rushing straight into Alex's section without hesitation.

Alex raised an eyebrow slightly.

He hadn't expected them to come directly at him.

For a brief moment, he found it strange. Most Pokémon weren't mindless creatures, and yet situations like this—these chaotic waves—still happened.

Watching them now, he couldn't help but compare it to humans. Individuals who might act cautiously on their own, but in a large enough group, became both braver and far less rational.

Before he could dwell on it further, his Crobat moved.

With a sudden burst of speed, Crobat cut through the air and struck the incoming Pokémon without hesitation, eliminating them almost instantly.

There was something almost unsettling in the way he moved, a clear enjoyment in the hunt reflected in the faint, almost sadistic expression he carried.

Nearby, Gardevoir watched the scene unfold.

She didn't say anything, but the look she gave Crobat was unmistakably critical.

Crobat clearly noticed it but pretended not to see it.

Alex, observing both of them, said nothing.

His attention shifted back to the battlefield as more Pokémon approached, and this time, he noticed something different. Not all of them charged forward blindly. Some slowed down. Others turned and fled the moment they saw the ones ahead of them being defeated so effortlessly.

That caught his interest.

His eyes narrowed slightly as he watched the subtle change in behavior.

For a brief moment, Alex found himself thinking that he would like to discuss this with someone deeply knowledgeable in the field, perhaps a researcher from Pokémon Professor circles who specialized in Pokemon behavior and instincts.

But that thought passed quickly.

Another cluster of weaker Pokémon rushed forward, and this time, Alex gave a single command. One wide-area attack swept across the field, overwhelming them instantly. Dozens fell in seconds, the difference in power so overwhelming that there was no real fight to speak of.

For Alex and his team, this wasn't a battle. It was a one-sided Massacre.

As time passed, the pressure on the battlefield began to shift.

The chaotic flow of weaker Pokémon didn't stop, but it changed. The waves became denser, more structured, and noticeably stronger. Mixed in with the mass now were low-level elite Pokémon, moving with far more control than the ones before them.

For Alex, it barely made a difference.

Most of his Pokémon still eliminated these opponents with a single well-placed move, their strength far beyond anything in the early waves. Even when multiple elite Pokémon appeared at once, the outcome didn't change. The gap in power was simply too large.

Ethan and Markus faced more resistance on their sides, but even they held their ground without serious difficulty. The formation remained stable.

5 minutes passed like this.

Then something changed again.

Alex's gaze sharpened as he noticed a large cluster of Pokémon gathering in the distance. Unlike before, they weren't charging forward immediately. They were waiting.

That alone was enough to draw his full attention.

A moment later, he understood why.

--------------

Pokémon: Cacturne

LV: 56

Type: Dark/Grass

Abilities: Sand Veil

Gender: Male

Potential: Gold (0%)

Moves:

- Leer, Poison Sting, Absorb, Growth [E], Leech Seed [E], Sand Attack, Needle Arm, Feint Attack, Ingrain, Payback [E], Spikes, Sucker Punch [E], Spiky Shield

 - (Innate Talent) Pin Missile [M], (Innate Talent) Energy Ball [M], (Innate Talent) Cotton Spore [M]

 --------------

At the center of the group stood a Cacturne, its presence clearly commanding the surrounding Pokémon. Even without scanning it in detail, Alex could tell it was far stronger than anything that had appeared so far.

Still not enough to be a real threat.

Alex didn't hesitate. He glanced at Scizor and gave a single, simple command. "X-Scissor."

Scizor moved instantly.

He shot forward without the slightest hesitation, rushing straight toward the gathered group as energy gathered along his arms. His speed, already high, was amplified further by the buffs.

Because Scizor was still a bit far away, he couldn't use X-Scissor even though it was ready. Scizor was incredibly fast in his buff state, but the distance was too far.

A bunch of low-level Elite Pokémon finished their moves and immediately used them against Scizor.

"Sleep Powder"

"Psybeam"

"Confuse Ray"

"Shadow Ball"

"Flamethrower"

"Ice Beam"

Scizor didn't even try to dodge these attacks and simply ran through them. He suffered hardly any damage, and Confuse Ray and Sleep Powder had no effect. Only Flamethrower damaged him slightly.

Alex, who had expected something like this, smiled slightly. Beyond a certain level difference, even multiple moves might do little damage.

Cacturne used Sucker Punch and immediately tried to hit Scizor, who was facing him. Because Cacturne was very experienced, he had used Growth several times as he moved towards Human City, so he felt very confident that this move would inflict a lot of damage.

Scizor, who was within range, simultaneously used X-Scissor, and both Pokémon hit each other at the same time.

Cacturne was sent flying by the powerful hit, and after he landed, Alex saw him lying unconscious on the ground. Furthermore, he had two huge, bleeding cuts.

Scizor, who had also suffered a powerful attack, displayed an indifferent expression as he landed on both feet.

Alex, who knew Scizor well, immediately noticed that he had lost about a third of his HP. He was a little surprised that Scizor had lost so much HP from that single hit.

But after a few seconds, he immediately understood: "Oh, that Cacturne was probably maxed out with Growth. No wonder it was dealing so much damage."

But Alex wasn't the only one who noticed that Scizor was a bit rattled by the hit.

Crobat noticed this too and quickly said, "Ha, this tin can is really pathetic. He's not only fully buffed but also at a higher level, and he's still taking this much damage."

Alex, who knew Scizor was too far away to hear this, wondered for a moment for who Crobat had said that.
