Chapter 1 - Prologue

Darkness. We all know what it is; secrets, lying, deception, ...murder. Sadly, whether it's a little or a lot, animals, people, and even planets, all fight with this darkness. It is everywhere.

There is a place far away from earth, a place that is unseen and undiscovered by humans. This planet was called Zena. The people who reside there could not age and could not die thanks to the power source on their planet. A power source that courses through all the Zenans veins, creating unique patterns, and colors based on each person's unique powers. A Zenan will not gain this power source until they turn 18, given to them by their goddess. Then, Zena will claim one to be a warrior, sent to other planets to protect them, and some to even protect Zena itself. The others are given other jobs on Zena depending on what powers they possess, for example, someone with the power of nature would care for the trees and plants; someone with water powers could make it rain, and then stop it at will. Those are just a couple ways that someone's powers could determine a job.

Sadly, even on this planet, darkness resides.

For a baby being born on Zena, the darkness has already almost taken over her...almost.

"Are you sure?", the women said pushing past the sobs caught in her throat.

"Yes, I'm positive. She's the chosen one, 'hair as black as night' as it is stated right in the prophecy..." Said the other women, pausing as she could see the distress in the poor mother, "Sarah...I'm so sorry..." Then she turned to leave when Sarah grabbed her shoulder. "Goddess...Great and powerful Goddess...there is no way around this? No mistake?" Sarah started sputtering desperately. The goddess looked over at the child, a newborn girl with black hair as opposed to the white hair Zenans usually had.

"I'm afraid there is no mistake. Your daughter is the chosen one, the dark angel. There is no way around this." Before the mother can argue more, her water form evaporates into the sky.

Sarah looked up where the goddess had just disappeared, still in shock. Her husband, Ken, grabs her hand to try and comfort her, but she quickly yanks her hand away.

"Sweetie..." Ken starts quietly, but Sarah jolts up angry, "STOP! We can't change this! And nothing, NOTHING, is going to ease the pain of losing my daughter to that... place." Sarah yells, trying to take deep breaths to calm herself. Seeing her husbands' tears, she bends back down next to him, taking him in for an embrace. "What are we going to do?" she manages to push out through her own tears.

"I...I don't know... but...we should tell the others for now, and then ask the goddess for guidance." Ken says as he stands up, wiping the tears off his face, pulling Sarah up, and doing the same to her.

"Alright." Sarah says regaining her composure to address the people, "Let's get this over with." Ken grabs the newborn child and follows Sarah out the door.

Sarah reaches the throne and looks to see all her royal subjects gathered in the castle. Ken stands beside her, giving her an encouraging look as she gets ready to address the Zenans.

"Attention all Zenans!" She says loudly, "As you all heard, my daughter, Star was born today and...and...she... is the chosen one... the goddess herself confirmed it, she has the hair as black as night." She finishes, tears welling up again as the people start yelling.

"It can't be!"

"But she's the only other heir to the throne!"

"She will bring darkness to their planet then ours!"

Sarah, getting overwhelmed, finally snaps. "ENOUGH!" she yells as the yelling and talking ceases, "The goddess is going to decide the best course of action." A second after Sarah finishes, a watery figure appears next to her.

"Hello, people of Zena. Due to the severity of the prophecy, the best thing to do is send the princess down... immediately. She must grow with them, live with them, love with them...so she's willing to die for them, to guard them and their planet with her life. The dark army is extremely dangerous. Once that portal is open, she is the only one who can save the humans." The goddess looks over at Sarah as she immediately drops to the ground, crying uncontrollably. She steps over to Ken, who is holding back tears. "You must go down with her, to protect her, and tell her who she is when the time comes." He nods his head respectfully at the goddess.

"I will also join them on this journey!" yells a boy from the crowd, as he pushes up to the throne. "And what protection can you bring the princess?" the goddess says, curiously. "I am Bay, a shapeshifter, I can take many forms, and watch her wherever she goes." The goddess thinks for a moment nodding in agreement. "Very well. You shall join the princess on her journey, and guard her with your life. With this power," She says waving her hand, as a blue light flows into him, "you shall control the human's minds, to keep her safe, and her true identity hidden unit the time comes." Bay bows gratefully and goes to stand by Ken and Star. "Now, lets head over to the portal to bid them farewell." The goddess says as she floats over the crowd leading the way.

Standing in front of the portal, Sarah starts to cry again, taking her child away from Ken to say good bye.

"Goodbye my sweet Star, you are destined for great things." She says through the tears, kissing Star one last time before handing her back to Ken. Sarah raises her hand to the stone arc, "Earth!" she yells as a portal starts to whirl, ready to take Ken, Star, and Bay down to earth. She runs over to embrace her husband one last time. "Be safe, I love you!" then she backs away, holding the portal open as she watches them fade away. The last thing she sees of her family, is her husband mouthing I love you too as she closes the portal.
