Brando suddenly grabbed his black backpack from the corner. His hands moved quickly, urgency flashing in his eyes.
"Let's go! I don't want to end up in jail," he said, slinging the bag onto his shoulders.
Alvin blinked at him, startled. "Where are we going?"
"To Misty's apartment," Brando decided firmly.
"Not back to our hometown?" Alvin asked, confused.
Brando shook his head. "No. If I go back there, how can I help my family? Finding a job there is almost impossible."
Alvin scratched the back of his neck nervously. "Okay… but what are we going to do then?"
"We'll find another job. Something far away from the police." Brando locked their apartment door behind him, and the two hurried into the night.
When they reached Misty's apartment, Brando knocked. Misty opened the door with a bright smile.
