The dinning room was quite for a few mintues, suddenly Sunshine, perched in her high chair as if she just noticed something, with tomato sauce on her face, pointed a chubby finger straight across the table.
"Uncle Billy!"
Everyone looked up from their plates....
Sunshine squinted at him. Serious. Toddler interrogation mode.
"Why you staring at Auntie Sophie?"
The table went silent. Even the crickets outside seemed to pause.
Sophia choked on her water. "Sunshine—"
Katie covered her mouth to hide a grin. Eric leaned back, arms crossed, very interested and amazed.
Yeah that's my daughter, special intelligence officer, he thought smiling sheepishly.
Billy blinked. Once. Twice.
He looked at Sunshine. Then at Sophia, who was suddenly very focused on her napkin, blushing.
Billy cleared his throat. "I'm not staring, Sunshine."
"You are," Sunshine said, nodding sagely. "You do it a lot. I noticed."
