CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE
HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED DEAD
The front door opened.
Mathew stepped inside.
He had barely made it past the doorway before he saw them.
Carol was on the floor.
Destiny was beside her.
Both completely unconscious.
For half a second, Mathew simply stood there.
His mind refused to process what his eyes were showing him.
Then he moved.
"Carol!"
He dropped to his knees beside his wife.
His hands went immediately to her face.
"Carol."
Nothing.
He touched her neck.
There was a pulse.
Weak.
But there.
His head snapped toward Destiny.
"Destiny."
He reached for her.
Her skin felt cold.
"Baby?"
Nothing.
Mathew's breathing became uneven.
He didn't ask Dean what happened.
He didn't ask why they were on the floor.
There would be time for questions.
Right now, there was only one thing that mattered.
Getting them help.
"Dean."
Dean looked up.
His face was pale.
"Get the door."
"What?"
"Open the damn door."
Dean immediately moved.
