"You're finally awake."
Destiny stared at him.
She didn't know the voice.
She didn't know the face.
But something about the way he had said it made her chest tighten.
The man stood just beyond the doorway, one hand resting against the frame.
He looked young.
Too young.
There was something almost unsettling about it.
Not because he looked frightening.
Because he looked like someone who had somehow stepped out of a photograph.
His hair was dark.
His face was pale.
His eyes were tired in a way that didn't seem to belong on someone who looked barely older than Destiny herself.
She glanced at Mathew.
Her father was still standing beside her bed.
He was staring at the stranger.
Not recognizing him.
Not frightened.
Just confused.
"Who are you?"
The man looked at her.
For a second, he seemed confused by the question.
Then his eyes moved to Mathew.
"Sorry."
He took a step backward.
"I thought…"
He stopped.
"What?"
He shook his head.
"Nothing."
Destiny frowned.
