Chapter 6 - The First Sync

The thought of finally completing his first sync made Jay extremely excited. At first, he was walking, but sensing Alejandra was following him, he started to dart between bookshelves and weave his way through other students.

He randomly grabbed a bunch of books from here and there. He determined a long time ago that if he was right he would be able to do something no one else was able to do.

He could possibly be the first Collector who has walked down his path.

If he was right, he would become a lugal of lugals. He was positively giddy. Jay had a pile of books when he entered the isolation chamber.

Isolation chambers were soundproof cubical spaces where all of the distractions from the outside world were cut off. No sight, sound, smells, nothing would intrude upon this sanctuary.

Not everyone used the isolation chambers, but it was pretty stupid not to. A lot of the people who got terrible results during their first syncing could usually attribute it to being disturbed or distracted.

He had a lot of practice using isolation chambers away from the library. Every student got to spend a certain amount of time every week practicing in one at the school's expense.

His parents paid for him to rent another chamber outside of school hours to continue training.

Jay argued the isolation chamber is what would truly help him to reach the stars.

Placing the pile of books on the ground, Jay pulled out one multi-v from his pocket. It was a thing one a little bigger than a smartphone. The multi-vs not only came in different colors but also in different sizes, but no one knew why.

The multi-v book was a clear crystal color. It almost looked like glass with a creamy gradient at the edges. He held the book in front of him and read the title proudly.

"Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

By Mr. Gabriel John Utterson"

The story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is known in his world to be a work of fiction written by Robert Louis Stevenson. On Earth 12,501,886 I30 these events actually took place.

Therefore, the author of the book is Mr. Gabriel John Utterson, who was a character in the Stevenson story. Utterson was a close friend of Dr. Jekyll and an eye witness to the events described in the book.

The introduction of Utterson's version laments the tragic fate of his friend Dr. Jekyll and is even somewhat sympathetic to the Hyde person.

Who he claims "is as real a person as my friend Dr. Jekyll himself!"

This was the difference between books in the Multi-V Library and the books on Earth.

On Earth, many of the books are fantasies or works of fiction, but every book in the Multi-V library actually happened!

At least, that's how these books present themselves.

To many, Jay's choice would seem strange. Why was he so intent on the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Was he trying to turn himself into a sad homicidal maniac?

Of course not! Jay believed the real Jekyll and Hyde were the result of Jekyll's already compromised psychology. If Jekyll weren't already mentally ill, Hyde, the manifestation of Jekyll's mental illness would never have been born.

If this theory is correct, and a perfectly sane person was able to make Jekyll's serum; what would happen? Jay had his theories, but the only way he would find out is by syncing.

Syncing required a person to very carefully and clearly determine what they wanted to sync with. It was Jay's belief that many people failed to be clear on what they were after and that is why they turned things into a mess.

The only thing he wanted to sync with was Dr. Jekyll's brilliant mind that was capable of creating the Hyde formula.

Jay researched everything very carefully since he was young. He consulted with psychologists, scientists, and others who would talk with him to come up with the best plan he could.

After all of his research, he realized that choosing Dr. Jekyll and Hyde would provide him with an opportunity no one else had.

Every person in the world was pursuing a path to becoming a Lugal, but that was all. Jay didn't want a path to becoming a Lugal; he wanted at least two paths to becoming a Lugal!

If he correctly understood the potential of the Jekyll and Hyde story; it was that by splitting himself into two distinct persons could allow him to go down two very different paths.

The first path was one of the geniuses. The second path was the path of power.

This was unprecedented, no one as far as he knew took the path he was contemplating. If he were successful then he would be unmatched. He could open a completely new understanding of the Multi-Vs.

This wasn't the best part. There was one hypothesis that if proven true would answer a major question of the multi-v, and if true could make becoming a lugal a certainty.

Jay believed he figured out the secret of the book colors! He believed books had a logical order determined in part by the book colors.

Starting with the clear crystal books, he believed the sequence of colors to be: violet, indigo, blue, green, orange, and red. There's much to say about this theory but now isn't the time.

Right now is Jay's moment. He focused his mind and brought the glass-like prims to his forehead and connected with the tablet. He was given the choice of to read or sync. He nervously chose 'sync.'

The information poured into him, but he slowly focused his mind on what he wanted to learn. He excluded everything else from his mind.

Soon, the letters of the story began to rearrange themselves into formulas, concepts, detailed explanations, and even pictures and videos of laboratory tests conducted by Dr. Jekyll.

It was like he was conducting Jekyll's experiments right along with him. He knew what Dr. Jekyll knew, his understanding of chemistry was at the same level of genius as Dr. Jekyll.

Jay could feel his brain changing. He was always considered a smart kid, but he realized he wasn't as intelligent as Dr. Jekyll. His mind could think faster, things he didn't understand about science became clear as day to him.

Before his eyes, a golden formula appeared before his eyes. Hydrogen, Yttrium, Dysprosium, Erbium, it was the four primary elements, the nucleus of Jekyll's genius. It was HYDE!

The sync ended and Jay kept his eyes closed for a few moments. He began to laugh to himself.

"I did it!

I did it!

I DID IiiiiiiiiiT!
