Chapter 191 - The Maker

Chapter 191 — The Maker

Silvet had stood before kings.

He had walked through Hell without permission.

He had entered places where angels were forbidden to look.

He had watched cities burn.

Watched civilizations disappear.

Watched people pray to gods that never answered.

Silvet had never hesitated.

Until now.

The doors behind him closed.

The sound was soft.

Almost gentle.

But the darkness outside disappeared completely.

Silvet was alone.

Or at least—

he thought he was.

The room stretched farther than his eyes could follow.

There were no walls.

No ceiling.

No floor.

And yet Silvet stood.

His feet rested on something invisible.

Above him—

stars.

Thousands.

No.

Millions.

Silvet slowly looked around.

They weren't stars.

Each light was moving.

Growing.

Dying.

Entire worlds.

Entire lives.

Tiny points of existence floating above him.

Silvet's expression remained calm.

But his eyes continued moving.

Even he had never been here.

Not truly.

He had been sent.

He had received orders.

He had spoken to the Maker.

But this—

This was different.

This was the place beyond everything else.

Silvet walked forward.

His footsteps made no sound.

"Maker."

Nothing answered.

Silvet stopped.

"I'm here."

The stars moved.

One disappeared.

Silvet watched.

Then another.

Then another.

Not exploding.

Not dying.

Simply—

ceasing.

Silvet's eyes narrowed.

"Interesting."

A voice answered.

"You still say that."

Silvet froze.

The voice hadn't come from anywhere.

It hadn't echoed.

It simply existed.

Silvet turned.

And saw him.

The Maker.

Silvet had imagined him differently.

Everyone would have.

A monster.

A god.

Something beyond human understanding.

Something too vast to look at.

But the Maker looked—

perfect.

Not beautiful.

Perfect.

That was worse.

His face held no flaw.

No scar.

No sign of age.

No imperfection for the eye to focus on.

His features seemed almost familiar.

As though Silvet had seen them somewhere before.

But never clearly.

His skin appeared human.

Until you looked too long.

Then it seemed like something else.

Something older.

Something without a beginning.

His hair was dark.

Then light.

Then neither.

It changed without moving.

His eyes—

Silvet stopped looking.

Not because they were frightening.

Because looking into them felt like remembering something that had never happened.

The Maker wore simple clothing.

White.

But not white.

The color seemed to contain every color Silvet had ever seen.

And colors he hadn't.

The Maker stood with his hands behind his back.

He was not large.

Not physically.

Yet the space around him seemed smaller because he existed inside it.

Silvet had fought creatures capable of destroying Shinokunis.

He had faced monsters that could tear through armies.

Standing before the Maker—

he felt nothing.

No fear.

No pressure.

No threat.

That was the problem.

The Maker didn't need to threaten him.

Everything around Silvet existed because this being allowed it to.

The Maker smiled.

Silvet finally spoke.

"Brook has changed."

The Maker's smile remained.

"I know."

Silvet's expression tightened.

"The fourth mark."

"I know."

Silvet took a step forward.

"That wasn't part of what you told me."

The Maker looked at him.

"No."

The single word landed heavily.

Silvet waited.

The Maker continued.

"Because I did not know."

Silvet stared.

For the first time since entering—

his calm finally cracked.

"You…"

He stopped.

The Maker waited.

"You didn't know?"

"No."

Silvet looked toward the endless space around them.

Impossible.

The Maker knew everything.

Didn't he?

Silvet had spent centuries believing that.

The Maker seemed to understand.

He smiled slightly.

"You thought I knew everything."

Silvet didn't answer.

"You let me."

The Maker nodded.

Silvet stared.

"You never corrected me."

"No."

"Why?"

The Maker's eyes remained on him.

"Because you would have asked fewer questions."

Silvet's jaw tightened.

The Maker walked past him.

Silvet turned.

The Maker stopped beneath the moving lights.

He raised one hand.

One of the worlds above them stopped.

Silvet watched.

The Maker's fingers closed.

The world disappeared.

Silvet's expression didn't change.

But something inside him did.

The Maker lowered his hand.

"Knowledge is not the same as control."

Silvet looked at him.

"You're saying you can't control Brook."

The Maker smiled.

"I did not say that."

Silvet waited.

The Maker turned back.

"I said knowledge is not control."

Silvet stared.

The Maker continued.

"Brook is known."

"His existence is known."

"His purpose is known."

The Maker took a step closer.

"But choices…"

Silvet's eyes narrowed.

The Maker smiled.

"Choices are always interesting."

Silvet looked away.

He thought about Brook.

The fight.

The mark.

The Earth responding.

Something Silvet had never been told about.

"You told me about three."

The Maker nodded.

"Michael."

"Lucifer."

"Death."

Silvet continued.

"You never mentioned a fourth."

The Maker remained quiet.

Silvet looked directly at him.

"Why?"

The Maker smiled.

"Because there shouldn't be one."

Silence.

The stars above them continued moving.

Silvet stared.

"What?"

The Maker's expression didn't change.

"Brook was not meant to carry the Earth."

Silvet felt something cold.

Not fear.

Understanding.

"The Earth Source."

The Maker nodded.

"It was supposed to awaken first."

Silvet immediately thought of the information.

Crowley.

Brook.

The order of the Sources.

"But it didn't."

"No."

"Why?"

The Maker looked toward him.

"Because things happened."

Silvet's expression hardened.

"What things?"

The Maker smiled.

"Things you are not yet meant to know."

Silvet laughed quietly.

"Of course."

The Maker smiled.

"You understand."

"No."

Silvet immediately corrected himself.

"I understand that you're not answering."

The Maker laughed.

The sound was warm.

Normal.

That made Silvet more uncomfortable.

Silvet began walking.

The Maker allowed it.

"You told me to watch him."

"Yes."

"You told me I could act as I wanted."

"Yes."

"You told me the future would change around him."

"Yes."

Silvet stopped.

"And you didn't know about this."

The Maker looked toward him.

"No."

Silvet's eyes narrowed.

"Then what exactly am I supposed to do?"

The Maker was silent.

Silvet waited.

Then—

the Maker looked directly into his eyes.

For one moment—

Silvet forgot who he was.

Forgot why he had come.

Forgot the fight.

Forgot Brook.

Forgot himself.

There was only—

the Maker.

Silvet stumbled backward.

His knees almost touched the invisible ground.

The Maker's expression remained calm.

"Do."

Silvet looked up.

The Maker smiled.

"What you want."

Silence.

Silvet stared.

"What?"

The Maker walked closer.

"You have always wanted freedom."

Silvet's expression changed.

The Maker stopped in front of him.

"So I gave you freedom."

Silvet stared.

"You gave me a mission."

"Yes."

"You gave me information."

"Yes."

"You watch everything I do."

The Maker smiled.

"And?"

Silvet couldn't answer.

The Maker stepped past him.

Silvet turned.

The Maker looked toward the worlds above.

"You confuse observation with control."

Silvet's eyes narrowed.

The Maker continued.

"I am not forcing you."

"I am not controlling you."

"I never have."

Silvet looked down.

The Maker smiled.

"That's why you're interesting."

For several seconds—

Silvet remained silent.

Then he remembered why he had come.

"The Book of the Future."

The Maker's expression changed.

Only slightly.

But Silvet noticed.

He smiled.

"So you do know something."

The Maker looked at him.

"Continue."

Silvet folded his arms.

"The Book is in Asteria."

The Maker remained silent.

Silvet watched him.

"You knew?"

"I knew Asteria was connected to prophecy."

Silvet smiled.

"That's not what I asked."

The Maker smiled back.

"No."

Silvet's expression tightened.

The Maker continued.

"I do not know who the Book is."

Silvet stopped.

For the second time—

the Maker had admitted not knowing something.

"You don't?"

"No."

Silvet studied him.

"Then why are you not searching?"

The Maker looked toward the worlds.

"Because you are."

Silvet laughed.

"That's your answer?"

"Yes."

The Maker finally looked at him.

"You want to find the Book."

"Yes."

"Then find them."

Silvet remained silent.

The Maker continued.

"I am interested in what you will do once you succeed."

Silvet smiled.

"You always make it sound like I'm unpredictable."

The Maker's smile widened.

"You are."

Silvet looked toward the door.

His questions had been answered.

Not enough.

But enough.

He began walking.

Then stopped.

"One more."

The Maker waited.

"The fourth mark."

Silvet looked back.

"What happens if it completes?"

The Maker's smile disappeared.

For the first time—

Silvet understood that there were questions even the Maker didn't want to answer.

The silence lasted too long.

Then the Maker spoke.

"I would prefer…"

Silvet waited.

The Maker's eyes returned to him.

"…to see."

Silvet stared.

The doors opened behind him.

He walked toward them.

But before leaving—

Silvet stopped again.

"Brook isn't your only surprise."

The Maker smiled.

"No."

Silvet looked toward the endless worlds.

Then back at him.

"How many?"

The Maker's smile became impossible to read.

Silvet waited.

The Maker answered.

"Enough."

Silvet stepped through the doorway.

The doors closed.

He was gone.

The endless space became quiet again.

The Maker stood alone.

For several moments—

nothing moved.

Then—

he looked upward.

One of the worlds above him flickered.

The Maker's expression changed.

Not concern.

Interest.

"Gabriel."

The word crossed the endless space.

Far away—

something answered.

In Heaven—

an angel opened his eyes.

The sound of wings filled the silence.

Gabriel stood.

He had been waiting.

For what—

even he did not know.

Until now.

He looked toward Earth.

And smiled.

"It is time."

Back in Asteria—

Brook woke suddenly.

His fourth mark was burning.

He grabbed his arm.

The room shook.

Grass pushed through the floor.

Brook looked down.

The mark was clearer than before.

Not complete.

But closer.

Brook stared at it.

Then—

inside his mind—

Michael opened his eyes.

Lucifer smiled.

Death raised his head.

For the first time since Brook had awakened—

all three spoke.

Not to each other.

Together.

One word.

"Soon."

Brook stared into the darkness.

And somewhere far beyond him—

a voice answered.

"Closer."
