Winter wrapped her mind around the information. The dreams she kept having only occurred after her magic awoke. Which meant that her magic was trying to combat whatever spell was suppressing her memories. Still, everything was fuzzy. Her memories hadn't fully returned yet. She didn't know what happened to her, why her death was faked or why her mother hid her. Even though she knew her identity, she still lacked answers. Winter fell into a restless sleep that night.
The next morning Winter woke up in her dorm, her headache persisting. She glanced at her wrist to see the burn completely healed. Winter examined her childhood room. It was untouched, as though she had never left. As usual, Winter had a plethora of questions rampaging inside her mind. Winter walked to the mirror. Her appearance hadn't changed either. She looked the same as always. Thick ebony hair, ice blue eyes, and pale skin. It made no sense that no one recognized her. She sighed, brushing out her hair before walking to the library.
Xae stared at her when she entered, worry in his eyes, "Are you alright Winter?" She waved her hand dismissively, "I'm fine. You saw everything last night didn't you?" He nodded, "After class Sam went back to his dorm. When he came out again he was carrying a sword with a colorful hilt. He went to the courtyard and that's when." Xae cut himself off and Winter encouraged him to go on. He whispered, "That's when he started practicing. After a while, you approached him and grabbed the blade, cutting your hand. Your eyes started glowing a bright white and you fainted. Sam caught you and carried you to the infirmary. Then he went and told Mandy and Layla what happened and holed himself in his room until about one in the morning. He came to the library and I lost him around one of the back isles." Winter bit her lip, "You didn't see him at all after that?" Xae shook his head. Because he went to the secret room. Winter smiled at him, "You're really good at this, Xae." He beamed at the compliment. She stared at him, "Would you like to help me for real now?" He tilted his head, "What do you mean?" Winter leaned in and whispered in his ear, "My real goal is to uncover the headmaster's identity." He took a few steps back from the shock of her words. He reflected for a moment before the expression on his face hardened and he became almost unrecognizable, "I will." Winter grinned, "Excellent." She began filling him in. He seemed to absorb every word. "And we can't be seen together in public, because then eyes will be on you." Xae finished her thought, "And we can't have that. I need to remain invisible. Totally under the radar." Winter moved her hair, "Exactly. So whenever you're alone, just think that it's for a cause. But always remember that in reality, you are not alone. There's a whole group of us who are on your side." Xae took in a calming breath, "Friends." Winter nodded, "Come to me if you see any trouble." Xae took that and scurried off.
Winter glanced back in the direction of the secret room. She couldn't go there now. Not with the risk of running into Sam. She couldn't reveal her identity to anyone. First she had to find out why they didn't remember. Winter smirked. Whoever was responsible had no way of knowing that she realized her identity. So now she had the upper hand.
Winter stretched and walked to the classroom. Mandy and Layla rushed over to her, "Winter are you okay? What happened?" Winter shook her head, "I don't know maybe I passed out because of lack of sleep." Layla leaned in, "Sam told us what happened. Your bleeding hand. The glowing eyes." Winter shrugged, "I don't know. I can't remember. All I remember is blacking out." They narrowed their eyes at her as Winter put her head down to avoid any other questions. Cornell stormed into the classroom booming, "Everyone get up and follow me. We have another joint class in the training room today." The class groaned collectively. "Another joint class." "The training room?" "Looks like we're doing more training today." Winter stood and walked side by side with Mandy and Layla to the training room.
When they got there, Star's potential and class two were already standing off to the side. Winter scanned the room and immediately noticed Della observing her in the corner. Cornell stood at the front of the room next to Nelly Terran, "Today we are doing magic training where you will be using your magic to fight against an opponent." Winter stared off into the distance. "Winter Knight." Mandy nudged her, "Winter what are you doing he called your name three times now." Winter blinked, remembering that was her name. She made her way to the front of the room as Cornell said, "You will be fighting Tracey." Winter glanced at the girl in front of her and recognized her as the tall, slender telekinetic from Darren's team during the mock war. The girl looked at her with spiteful eyes and Winter sighed. She didn't want to fight. She didn't have any energy and her magic felt unstable. Winter felt like if she used it, she wouldn't be controlling it. It would control her. Her eyelids drooped, "I have a headache." Cornell chuckled threateningly, "If I say you fight. Headache, stab wound or dying, you fight." All eyes were on her. This was their goal. The reason they were doing this training was so they could see her powers in action. That's why Cornell was demanding that she went first. Winter cracked her knuckles. Since she couldn't use her magic, she just wouldn't fight back. "Begin."
The telekinetic didn't hesitate and began projecting whatever loose objects she had access to at Winter. She wasn't very fast or very skilled, so her attacks were easy to dodge. Winter moved gracefully, as she had been taught to do all her life. Even though she had been out of practice for years, her body still vividly remembered the art of defense. Winter hardly broke a sweat as the telekinetic began to cry out in frustration. She swiftly flung a bar at Winter's back. Before it made contact, Winter leaned into a back handspring, using the momentum to kick the bar in the girl's direction. Startled, she didn't have enough time to react and it hit her. Onlookers gasped in awe as a healer moved to tend to the girl's broken nose. "She didn't even use her powers." "Wow she beat her just by dodging." "That was amazing." Winter bowed mockingly at Cornell and she felt Della's cold stare follow her as she made her way back to her friends.
