Travis finally picked up the phone lifelessly. His voice was lazy and exhausted, heavy with an overwhelming weight of defeat, which immediately made Diego frown on the other end of the line.
"What's wrong with you?" Diego asked him with a genuine flicker of concern breaking through his usual nonchalant demeanor. But before Travis could reply, Diego remembered the primary purpose of his relentless dialing. "Listen, I have good news for you."
"What is it? I don't have much time right now. I still have to find her, so hurry up," Travis retorted with sharp annoyance, his voice rough as he shifted his car into gear and turned the steering wheel to drive back toward his rented house, his eyes frantically scanning the passing streets.
