Special notes: A high-level hobgoblin with extraordinary parameters given its race. Mia has developed a pinnacle magical magic parameter along with an unheard of spirit parameter for her race. Her intelligence and beauty are a deadly combination as she bombards her enemies from afar.
\-------------------------------------/
Looking at Mia's stats, I was surprised. I had fully intended to help get her main parameters (dexterity, agility, and magic) to the SSS-rank, maybe even to the EX-rank, if possible. But now, Mia had wholly surpassed my expectations. Her weakest parameter was A-rank, while a monster of her race was considered extraordinary if they had even one parameter at A-rank. Usually, only higher tier species like ogres can reach such heights, but with my help, it seemed like Mia would easily be able to max out several of her parameters.
When the icy mana subsided, Mia stood there with her eyes closed as she tried to stabilize her powers. She quickly restrained the aura from her magical power as she opened her eyes and looked toward me with a smile. I wanted to comment on how beautiful she looked, but right at the moment, my stomach gurgled. I'm not sure how since my insides are entirely made of slime jelly instead of muscles and organs, but I guess that just means that my evolved form requires sustenance too.
The plus side was that I got to see Mia heartily laugh for the first time since I met her. "Pfft!—Ha, hahaha, haha. If you aren't hungry, I'll eat that for you, Orion." Mia was teasing me now, but I would have my revenge sooner or later. For now, though, I quickly scarfed down my meal that had grown cold. I didn't mind when I still thought that I didn't require food, but now, things were different. I was hungry, which meant that I also probably need sleep, and to use the restroom—what a bummer.
While I cooked some more food to satisfy my sudden voracious appetite, I made some for Mia while we made small talk. She asked about all sorts of things like what was my old world like and what I used to do. It felt remarkably like a first date overall. Just being born, Mia didn't have a whole lot to talk about that wouldn't make her upset. Instead, she shared her gossip about Eve and Kishin as well as some of the other goblins and hobgoblins.
She confirmed my suspicion that our hobgoblin cleric, Jesus, was a big hit among the goblinas. Fuyuki, formerly gobu-Fu and Megane, formerly gobu-Me, we're particularly interested in him. Good for him, I'm sure he will be instrumental in repopulating the goblin village. For my part, I'm not sure if I can even have children.
『Analysis shows that you have incredibly high virility, likely due to your ability of the same name, and being the primogen of your own B-rank species. Unfortunately, the gestation period for your children is bound to take a substantial amount of time due to the robust nature of your race. The exact time cannot be calculated without analyzing a fertilized egg.』
Well, that was good to know, I guess. Now that the feeling of hunger had dissipated, I was, of course, starting to feel sleepy. I stretched and let out a big yawn, surprising Mia, then she yawned and got up. "See you tomorrow, Orion. We've got a lot of work from now on." she sleepily smiled once more before turning to head into the caves.
Realizing I had nowhere to sleep, I tried weaving a hammock out of [Sticky Thread] and [Steel Thread], but that was a failure. The sticky threads were too sticky, and the steel thread was so thin that it could slice a leaf falling on it. Next, I tried binding them together into a twisted wire, and that showed promise, but the real problem was I had no idea how actually to make a hammock.
In the end, I made something akin to a spider web, then covered it in an assortment of large leaves. It was a little rough, but I don't doubt it is better than sleeping on the ground with the insects. I could have spent sp on buying a sleeping bag or a hammock, but it's proving harder to earn sp than I thought. I will wait until I find a steady way to earn sp before I use it just to make myself a bit more comfortable.
『Orion, new notifications from the system. Would you like to see them?』
Sleep was already weighing down on my eyelids, and my body was starting to relax. 'Unless it's important or urgent, leave it for tomorrow, Saul."
『Understood. Good night, Orion.』
'Good…nig—'
.......................................
A couple of hours later, my passive sensory skills alerted me of movement nearby, I had no idea how they had gotten so close without me noticing, but one confusion was soon cleared before another took its place.
『Non-hostile companion detected. Identified as Dryad Treyni. Alarms reset to standby.』
I was surprised that Treyni was here, but I was nonetheless willing to force myself to wake up and see if she needs something.
Just as I was about to rise, though, I saw Treyni lowering herself down onto my web-bed from the connected tree. She made a 'shh' gesture before lying down beside me. "Quiet, " she whispered, "there are several annoying beasts not too far from here looking for something to eat."
Saying that, she sidled up next to me and stole my left arm to use as a pillow. At that time, my mind was still more than half asleep and just wanted to return to its dreams. If Treyni was going to use my arm as she liked, though, then I might as well enjoy myself too.
I rolled up behind Treyni and hugged her waist with my free arm as the scent of her fresh, grassy hair lulled me back asleep. Treyni was a perfectly cushy hug pillow, given that she was so soft and warm. I quickly fell asleep with a beautiful fairy in my arms.
•••
Several hours later, I awoke once again, but this time much less tired. What greeted my eyes, though, was a delicious scene of pale-white skin shrouded by a nearly translucent gown. Her long, pale-green hair tickled my nose slightly.
Were it not for my numb left arm, I would have thought this a dream. It seems at some point in the night, my Mimicry skill released itself, and my horns and cuff reappeared. Because of that, I had rolled onto my back, and Treyni had taken up her place laying on my shoulder and hugging my waist. Her D-cup breasts were warm and soft as Treyni's warm, floral breath tickled my neck.
I gently caressed her face before poking her cheeks slightly to wake her. Her brows furrowed slightly, but she still remained asleep, which was problematic for several reasons.
As much as I'd love to have my way with this beautiful fairy, I had a lot to do today. I gently brushed the hair from her face, which seemed to draw a relaxed smile from her, then I slowly approached her lips with my own. If she was not going to 'wake up,' then I would gladly help the sleeping beauty.
Seeing no movement, I took the beautiful dryad's lips with my own for a minute or so. Treyni's eyes immediately burst open, perhaps not expecting me to really kiss her, but instead of resisting, she greeted my tame kiss with a more excited fervor as her tongue slipped its way between my lips.
Despite having lived around many sex-frenzied sprites for hundreds of years, her somewhat clumsy kiss gave away her inexperience in these manners. After 10 minutes, Treyni was left breathless, and her negligee was damp with sweat as she lay beneath me.
"Wow!" I exclaimed. "What was that for?"
Treyni smiled, hearing my praise. "Consider it a down payment for my massage later and..." she hesitated for a moment, "I need to know if you were really the last person to exit Veldora's cave?" Treyni bit her luscious lips slightly. Likely in part to arouse me as much as it was that she understood asking such a thing was a risk.
I was not surprised that she asked such a thing. After all, the flora of the forest is a dryad's eyes and ears. "I am, or at least I am the last that I know of. I think there aren't many people, man or monster, that can approach that place."
Treyni nodded in agreement. "Indeed, the magicules released by sir Veldora made it difficult for anything less than a B-plus ranked monster… May I ask what you were doing there, or how you got there?"
This time though, I would not say anything about my relationship with the Storm Dragon. Based on what Veldora told me, that could spark some extreme hostilities from the Western Holy Church and the Ruberios Empire.
"I'm sorry, Treyni. I can only tell you that I was reborn there, everything else related to it is off-limits."
Treyni naturally had more questions, but understanding that I was not going to discuss them, she nodded and cast the spell [Cleanse] on the both of us. I sat on the edge of my platform while waiting for her to change, and she soon joined me, leaning on my shoulder as we watched the goblin village come to life.
We had several new hobgoblins that ranked up last night, but no tier-3 evolutions.
I looked to Treyni and kissed her cheek "Well, I'm going to go start the training the goblins, what will you do?" I asked as my arm snaked around her waist.
Treyni laughed slightly as she laced her fingers with mine. "Fufufu, you aren't trying to chase me off, are you? Still, it doesn't seem like you are willing to let me go." she said as she slightly squeezed by hand.
"Of course, I do not wish to let such a beautiful woman go, " I said as I pulled her into my lap and held her tightly. "But, I need to know why you are here and what your goals are. As charming as I might be, I don't think a quarter day's interactions are enough to sway such a strong and long-lived woman."
Treyni sighed and lied back against my chest. "I've been tasked to keep an eye on you and see what kind of monster you are. Especially once we learned you might be related to Veldora's disappearance. All of this," she spoke softly, "It was outside my expectations, Orion…"
Hearing her confirm it was a bit disappointing, but not unexpected. Even for an 'Ara ara' Nee-san, she was a bit too forward. "Sure, you can stay and observe us…or me. I hope you will find that I have a lot to offer to my friends and allies. I hope you won't make the mistake of trying to use what you learn here against me, though…"
"Mmh. I understand, Orion. As long as you don't actively work against them, the dryads and treants will at worst ignore you." she said, squeezing my hands that we're still wrapped around her waist reassuringly. She shuffled slightly on my lap, making me groan.
"Ugh…You're free to come and go as you like, then, but if you want to bring others, please let me know ahead of time." receiving her agreement, I lifted my playful new companion and carried her as I jumped down to the base of the trees. Treyni gave me one last, long kiss before she hopped down and stood beside me.
『Orion Anvindr obtained [The Guardian Dryad's Affection].』
'Whoa! There is the legendary World's voice. I wonder what the [The Guardian Dryad's Affection] does…'
『[The Guardian Dryad's Affection] gives you an innate low-level affinity with the wood element. You may earn higher affinities by progressing your relationship with the Dryad Treyni. Be warned, though, this innate affinity can be lost should your relationship with Treyni deteriorate.』
'Interesting. The bigger reward is still receiving Treyni's affection, but I certainly won't reject a gift horse.'
After that, I gathered up everyone in the village and withdrew my Zankensouki manual I received from the roulette. I limited the information to the basics of hand-to-hand combat techniques and the movement techniques. One important development when naming everyone yesterday was that a portion of my spiritual power was used to awaken the spirit parameter in each monster I named. This offered a lot more paths for training them in the future, but for now, it would allow me to teach them some basic Shinigami techniques without having to buy all new manuals for them.
I had each monster undergo the painful process of absorbing the knowledge provided by the book. I wish schools had this sort of thing back in my old world…
While the goblins spent the next hour and a half learning the new techniques, I withdrew my Asauchi to meditate with it. Strangely enough, I could feel a discontentment from it, probably because I stowed it away in my storage space last night. 'Heh, what a stubborn blade. I guess I'll have to keep you nearby from now on.' seemingly understanding me, I could feel my blade hum with contentment.
While meditating, I drew in spiritual energy from the outside world, passed it through my spirit, then transferred it to my sword. I could feel my sword hum slightly when it had enough, but I think the only other one who noticed is Treyni.
By the way, as it could be considered something of a military secret, Treyni did not ask to learn the new skills. Not to mention that as a dryad, she already had the ability to teleport anywhere in the forest instantly, and her physical skills weren't her specialty.
After finishing my meditation, I examined these guys. Most of them were huffing and puffing on the ground, but several of the others, including Mia and Kishin, were already practicing what they had learned.
I gave them a few moments to gather themselves before I had everyone pair up for training. I paired up with Kishin while Mia and Eve both started practicing on their own. The only ones who sat aside were Treyni and the elder goblins who happily chatted together.
Between Treyni's own power and her show of kissing me this morning, none of these guys were stupid enough to try anything with her, which saved me a lot of trouble and headache.
I had fun sparring with Kishin as he was the only one that could match my current strength. Hobu-Rou did an excellent job training their fighting instincts, and combined with the techniques I provided, Kishin and the others were quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
Training only lasted two hours, then the villagers all set out to hunt for food and patrol the surrounding areas. Before that, though, I had handed out all the equipment from the goblins storage to the ranked up goblins.
This would only work for a short while, though. I needed to learn how to make use of all these materials I have collected or find others who can.
While I was assigning groups, Kishin, Eve, and Mia approached me. Kishin had wanted Mia to go with Eve and him to power-level Eve, but he was bound to be disappointed.
Mia was partnering with me today to investigate the orc base. Mia was trying to give Eve some alone time with Kishin, and she also wanted to keep an eye on me. She was visibly perturbed this morning when she saw Treyni's intimate actions earlier, but she hadn't said anything.
I handed kishin the two-handed, fire-spewing ax before they left. It was too bad I didn't record the scene. He looked like a child with a new toy or videogame at Christmas. I could only hope that he remembered his goal and helped Eve power a bit.
Next, Mia, Treyni, and I all started moving towards the orc base to scout out our first target. On our way, I was silently communicating with Saul. 'Show me the new notifications, Saul…'
