Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: An Otherworldly Proposition (2/2)

(Minor Edits)

Sol read, reread, and then reread the letter. Everything was quite vague if what Allen said was true. It was quite incredible, and isekai was something he's dreamed of for as long as he can remember. Just considering the various possibilities made him quite excited.

He looked at the petite Natsuki-chan and smiled, " Your husband is quite something. If what he told me was true, then I'm certainly quite interested in the offer."

Natsuki frowned for a moment before asking, "What husband? I've never married anyone in my entire life!"

Sol looked at the ring on her finger for a moment and then shook his head and sighed. He figured that the letter was indeed too good to be true as he decided to simply hand the letter to her and let her see for herself.

He watched as Natsuki became red in the face, though apparently from anger rather than the embarrassment he expected. Ultimately, It seemed she was unable to hold it in as she mumbled something about stupid vampires and not addressing teachers with "chan."

After venting for a few minutes, Natsuki-chan recovered and looked Sol in the eyes. "Everything in this letter is accurate, aside from my relationship with that bonehead. He's only my student, nothing more. Do you understand?"

Sol wanted to point out the ring on her ring finger but decided it was better to ignore it for now. He thought for a moment before asking the questions he felt were most important.

"Natsuki, you said all of this is true, so how would I reincarnate to another world in the first place? What would happen to me here?"

Natsuki sighed and nodded, understanding his primary concern after having observed him for some time. "If we do it now, I can painlessly reincarnate you into the target world. For the official record, you'll have had a heart attack and died of natural causes. Of course, the school will pay for the funeral and send a generous life insurance sum to your family so that you need not worry about them.

For you, it'll be like falling asleep until you arrive on the other side. I have no way to know what that will be like though since Allen said it was different for everyone."

Sol nodded in understanding before posing his next question. "Do you know anything about this system I'm supposed to gain?"

Again, Natsuki shook her head. "I've never seen it myself, but I know Allen's has given him various quests and also helped him grow much more reliable than he was when he come to this world. Based on what he has told me, Allen's system helps him to comprehend and learn things in their most optimal form. But it's different for other system users.

My understanding is that he transmigrated here rather than reincarnation. Still, considering the type of world you will be going to, rebirth would be better for an ordinary civilian like yourself."

Sol nodded once again in understanding as he thought about his final question and whether he should ask it or not. "Umm, Natsuki... Since you aren't married to Allen, does that mean you're available?"

Sol prepared to get scolded again, but instead, he just saw Natsuki sigh as her shoulder's slumped a bit as she shook her head. "Allen and I, we aren't together. I've been alone for as long as I can remember, but he was the one who rescued me from that. My heart jas already been claimed."

"I'm sorry Natsuki, I didn't mean to dig into a sore spot for you. If it makes you feel better, you can confide in me whenever you want." Sol said, smiling wryly.

"Hmmph, how am I supposed to confide in you? I don't even know you, and you're getting ready to go to a completely different world!" she said slightly pouty, though she couldn't stifle her small laugh towards the end. Natsuki's smile looked much more beautiful than her upset expression, and it brought a much more natural smile to Sol's face as he looked at her.

"Haha, if things don't work out here, you can always come visit me wherever it is that I'm heading." he smiled.

"Pfft..." Natsuki chuckled as her deep blue eyes looked me over. "I'm sorry, Sol-kun, but I think I'll have to disappoint you." she said, covering her cheek with her dainty hand. "I have too many responsibilities here right now, but maybe if I need to retire, I'll come visit."

God damn, Legal Lolis are fucking adorable.

Sol nodded. "You're welcome anytime, Natsuki... I guess we should get started then?"

"I'll hold you to it. Let's get started. Would you like to keep your memories of this life?" she asked as she stood up and started casting a magic circle around Sol. He was absolutely memorized watching her work, and the small blush on her cheeks seemed to indicate that she was aware of his gaze.

"Of course I will, how else will I be able to properly greet Natsuki-chan when you come to visit me?" he spoke smugly.

Natsuki simply shook her head as she tweaked the magical construct surrounding him slightly. "You'll keep any experience from this life aside from knowledge about the people from the world you're going to. The only exception is that you will gain complete knowledge regarding the person you reincarnate as."

Soon Sol was surrounded by bright lights all around him, and he slowly lost the feeling from his body. First, his legs then his arms. He had just lost his sight when Sol felt a small kiss on his cheek. "Goodbye, Sol. It was interesting watching over you." He heard a soft whisper in his ear before everything turned black, and he lost consciousness.

...Sometime later, in a world far far away...

'Hmm... Everything is dark, and I can't feel anything...' As I tried to look around, I noticed that I was unable to open my eyes or limbs. 'Was I reincarnated as a vegetable???'

Things wouldn't be good if I were reborn as a particular merchant's cabbages. Then again, since I can remember that merchant, I shouldn't be in that world based on what Allen told me in the letter.

'Okay, no need to panic. Maybe I was just reborn as a non-human, and I need to get used to using my body.' Thinking this, Sol continued trying to move until he felt a prickly sensation across what he thought was his stomach.

'I can feel again!' as he continued trying to move, he felt something hard like a rock beneath him rolled? Yes, he felt as though he was rolling around on a bunch of prickly things and hard stones. 'At least I don't seem to be getting dizzy...'

While moving around, Sol noticed that he could only make out a few sensations of touch as he rolled, but sight, smell, and hearing seemed to be out of order. 'Maybe Natsuki-chan was right to stay behind...' he couldn't help but consider his current state as he felt even more prickly grass-like sensations moving across his stomach.

...

No matter how he tried to reject it, it was official. Sol had become one of the most loved and hated viscous organisms of all time. 'I'm... a slime... b-but why, why Natsuki-chan??? Couldn't I at least been reborn as a goblin or something?'

『Stable consciousness detected for 24-hours. System fusion complete』

『Begining fusion of hosts [Great Sage] unique skill and hosts [Predator] unique skill with system.』

『[Great Sage] has been evolved into the unique skill [Solomon's Pride].』

『[Predator] has been evolved into the unique skill [Devourer]』

『Analyzing hosts memories... 100%』

『Reinitializing all of hosts memories minus forbidden content... 100%』

『All systems operational.』

My mind was bombarded by the influx of memories that became immediately clear and focused in my mind rather than the usual haze that preoccupied it. Minus the pain I feel all through my body, I couldn't help but wonder if this clarity was how ordinary people always felt or if it was just the fact that I now inhabited a slime body.

Along with my memories, all of the information about Mikami Satoru and his life. I had the system present it as information rather than memories since I didn't want there to be any weird overlap between us. I am myself, and that's it.

I was about to speak with Gre- wait, it's Solomon's Pride now, right? I'll just call it Saul for short. Or I would if I had a mouth. 'Saul,' he thought, 'do you have any detection abilities? I can't see or hear anything around me at the moment.'

Sol had stopped moving in an area filled with the ticklish grass, hoping to avoid any potential predators. He recalled that the original met someone significant when he first reincarnated here, but he couldn't remember who due to the rules.

『Accessing hosts mana reserves. Ping! No lifeforms detected within the 100m vicinity host.』

Hmm, it seems that it is a true beginners area with no monsters around. I skittered over to the grass before enveloping it with my rounded, gelatinous figure.

『Would host like to use [Devourer] on unknown plant? [Y/N]』

Do it. Analyze and absorb the plant.

『Processing...Complete.』

『Analysis... Complete.』

Suddenly information was embedded into my mind as if it had always been there.

/-------------------------------------\

Hipokute Plant: It's natural habitat are mana rich environments, and it is usually used to create healing salves. If the plant's sap is combined with mana enriched water, a healing tonic can be crafted.

\-------------------------------------/

Hmm. Both the processing and analytical abilities of the improved [Devourer] skill seem significantly faster.

'Hey, Saul, can you create the tonics if I collect some mana enriched water?'

『For simple procedures like mixing, and refinement the system can handle it automatically within the host's storage space. For more complex procedures, the host will need to have the appropriate class and do so manually. In which case, the host can rely on the system's guidance and support to create the most optimal items and abilities.』

Hmm, it's disappointing that I can't have the system just auto-craft everything for me like the original, but that might just be a result of the different worlds that are merged with the Tensura-record.

『That is correct, host. Due to the nature of the combined records, you are required to fulfill the prerequisites before you can complete specific actions. Don't worry, though. [Solomon's Pride] allows you to analyze other people's skills and make them your own while [Devourer] will enable you to thoroughly scan the target that you absorb giving you the ability to mimic their form and abilities.』

'Hmm. That sounds pretty similar to the description of Allen's skill...'

『Sorry, host. I am unable to give out information about other hosts or their systems. The same rules apply to you though.』

'No problem, Saul. I appreciate all the help your giving me.'

Anyways, I should absorb as much of this Hipotke stuff as possible. Who knows when it will come in handy...

Like that, I spent the next several hours collecting all of the grass I could find. In this mana rich environment, there was plenty of the herb to discover, and after checking in with the system, I hadn't used up even 1/100th of a percent of my storage capacity.

After collecting all of the weeds I could in the nearby area, I carefully jiggled my way around and explored the nearby area. Of course, I had the system periodically scan my surroundings to avoid doing something stupid like falling in a lake.

Something to note was that even though I reincarnated as Mikami Satoru, I wasn't the same person, so I didn't gain the extra starting boons such as pain resistance, electrical resistance, and paralysis resistance.

Instead, when I checked my status, I was surprised. It wasn't at all what I was expecting...
