Was it possible to love someone despite only ever having one conversation with them?
The boy thought it was. No, he was certain, for the devotion within his heart was barely contained by his physical body.
The simple wood barrier stood sturdy, separating himself and the raucous crowd from the well trodden field that each knight proudly trotted through. He was common; there were no seats and shaded boxes for the likes of himself. Elbows dug into his gut and between the weight of the crowd behind him and the unforgiving barrier, he was sandwiched in a position few others could bear for as long as he had.
And yet, the boy hardly noticed. Out of habit, he scratched at the side of his right arm, at a scar that did not exist anywhere outside of his memory.
