"Destroyed?" I stood shocked. "How?" I asked.
"You want a long version or short?" Rick asked.
"Long please." I Replied in a monotone voice. "My world ended, I need to know what happened."
"Well since you asked."
'You see, every universe has their own sets of gods and goddess. They have their own mythos which is true regardless of what one says. These mythos are their life stories which is passed down. YOur universe was no different.
See after a while gods and goddess of various mythos start to fight, because their mythos is how they get their powers. As long their mythos stays relevant, they stay in the universe.
Your universe was an exception, cause despite the various mythos your gods decided on peace, cause there their gods didn't have to do anything to affect their mythos, their followers did it for them. Even though people did not follow their mythos they stayed in existence cause of documentations of their mythos. Hence, you universe was considered as a prime example for other universes.
Gods and goddess from other universes would come down to their earth and have a chat with them and offer their own advice on how to stay relevant, after their advice they would often partake in earthen activities, usually partying, drinking and eating. You should know, you were a favorite specimen of a majority of gods.'
"I'm sorry, what was that last part?" I asked, a bit shocked.
"You..... were a favorite specimen of a majority of gods." Rick replied.
"Yeah, I find that hard to believe. I was just a regular bartender working a normal life, I have no recollection of meeting any gods." I retorted.
"Do you think gods would announce their divinity so easily", he asked.
I opened my mouth to retort but shut it. "Good point." I said. "But why was I their favorite. I didn't do anything especially good or bad that i can think of."
"Therein lies the connection. The gods don't look at your deeds but your character. And Sid, they loved yours."
Sid, The name rings a bell. Oh yeah that was my name. Slowly my past comes to me.
I remember being a loner, not as lonely to have no friends but lonely enough to not need to communicate on a daily basis. I had no issues making friends, but maintaining them was a completely different story. I wasn't close to anyone but whenever I needed help help was there.
I remember doing a course in hospitality after my graduation, I remember studying about various fields, Housekeeping, Front office, Food and Beverage service and Food Production, various recipes I had studied and made came back to me. I remember specializing in Food production and Food and Beverage service. I remember the various smells of different kinds of foods and drinks I smelt in different parts of the world I visited after I passed out of college, I remember the smells of the different wineries and breweries I visited and worked at before I started my own bar.
The smells I would never get to Smell again, the people I would never get to see and talk to again. Guess I should have enjoyed life a lot more than I enjoyed work.
"Sid you ok?" I heard Rick ask in a concerned voice
"Yeah, I am. Why do you ask?" I ask with a trembling voice.
"You're crying"
"Yeah, I am arn't I. Can you give me a minute."
"Go ahead, No shame in crying about what you lost." He said sheepishly.
"Quit reading my mind asshole." I say while dropping to the ground crying my eyes out.
