Jack understood that Max seemed to give a lot of importance to this mission and was even happier to have been chosen to lead 100 soldiers on this mission, Jack prepared his bag with the items he always took to the forest.
Jack had never gone to the mountain, but he knew that part of the path was a forest, the things that he learned from Ron and Mark also served to enable him to live in the mountains, he couldn't just fish and get so many fruits and he had to hunt to eat.
Jack also knew that he could not take the carts for this mission as he did in the forest because the bandits would not create paths in the mountains, their goal was to hide from soldiers in the capital and not create a path for soldiers.
Jack also talked with some soldiers who had already gone to the mountain and tried to know what he would have to face in this mission, Max would send some soldiers with experience in walking in the mountains, but Jack as leader had to do his research.
On this mission, Jack could not take the traps he had because they would not have a cart to take things and he could not ask the soldiers to carry the traps, but some traps he managed to take.
In the mountains, he could find even more bears than he found in the forest and even with 100 soldiers he did not want to risk facing a bear directly, of the 100 soldiers who would go with him, Max was smart and chose 20 archers and 20 soldiers who could use the shield.
Jack was taking 10 archer soldiers and 9 soldiers who could use the shield, so he could count on 30 archers and 29 soldiers who used the shield, of course, the archers and soldiers who used the shield that Max chose could also use the sword well.
Captain Max called the 100 soldiers that were chosen by him and Jack for this mission and told them what they would have to do, Captain Max also said that it would be Jack who would lead them on this mission and Max said that he demanded that they obey Jack completely.
The soldiers who had already gone on the hunt with Jack were surprised that Jack was chosen to lead the 100 soldiers on this important mission, they knew of Jack's ability, but they did not expect Captain Max to trust him that much.
After some time Jack arrived and found the 100 soldiers after Captain Max had already left, the soldiers who did not know they looked at him curiously trying to know why Captain Max trusted him so much.
"I am Jack, I was chosen to lead this important mission because I have experience in leading a large group of soldiers and because I was once a hunter and I know how to walk well in the mountains too."
"I ask that you follow my orders on this mission because we will go directly to the thieves' territory on the mountain, and on the way there we will face some wild animals that live in the mountains."
"So you're going to have to follow my orders in these fights, Captain Max trusted me and I'm sure you trust Captain Max's decisions."
The soldiers knew that they needed to obey Jack's orders on that mission and they didn't intend to disobey because they trusted Captain Max, they were just curious because they didn't know Jack.
But after Jack spoke to them, the soldiers understood that Jack had experience leading soldiers and also knew how to walk well in the mountains, the soldiers also found that Jack seemed to be very confident and gave them more peace of mind.
Jack did not want to have problems with the soldiers as he did in the forest, Jack thought that this mission was easier because they would have to kill people and not animals and the soldiers were specially trained to do this.
But Jack also knew that people were much more intelligent than animals and could set traps and have strategies, especially since Jack's group would have to invade the thieves' territory which gave the thieves the most advantage.
When Jack spoke to Max before the mission, Max told Jack who was the soldier he had chosen who had information about the thieves and also knew how to walk in the mountains, Jack called this soldier whose name was Paolo.
"Paolo, Captain Max spoke very well about you and said that you were specially chosen for this mission because of your skills and because you also had information about thieves and knew how to walk in the mountains."
"Yes, Private Jack, I know how to walk in the mountains and I have information about thieves, I participated in some investigations in the mountains with other guards and found out a few things about mountain thieves."
"This group of thieves must have between 200 thieves and 300 thieves, few of them have real skill using swords and bows, so they always attack traders with a large group of thieves."
"Even so, sometimes some thieves die in the robberies they do, the thieves never try to enter the capital and we can never catch the thieves alive, they live in a place on the mountain that looks like a big village."
Paolo was happy to know that Captain Max had praised him and chosen him especially for this mission, so he said all the things he knew to Jack, these were information that Captain Max had not told him.
With 100 soldiers in his group, if he faced all the thieves they could win, but many soldiers in his group would eventually die fighting 300 thieves, it seemed that this mission would be more difficult than Jack expected.
"Okay, Paolo, I'm going to be the leader of the group on this mission, I like to have skilled soldiers to lead some soldiers in the group I lead, I have a soldier to lead the archers, a soldier to lead the soldiers who use the shield and a soldier to lead soldiers who use only the sword."
"Since Captain Max spoke so highly of you, I wanted to ask that you be responsible for the information and to guide the soldiers and me through the mountain, can you do that?"
"Yes, Jack, I can do this."
Jack needed Paolo's help and so he said that only the soldiers he trusted had special roles in his group, so Paolo was happier to help Jack on this mission, what Paolo would do was be the guide on that mission and say what he knew for Jack and the other soldiers.
