Two weeks later:
Thursday, 24th of August, 2004.
Location: On ship in front of barn.
The team is currently sitting in a circle.
"So you've completed the program" Gert says.
"Yep, Leap has tested it and it's fully functional" Jim says.
"Alright let's see it" Gert says. Jim brings out the tablet from his bag and switches it on. He taps something on the screen and a hologram appears. The hologram forms a screen and keyboard.
"Leap could you project this for me please". Leap brings out the boards from the side of their chairs and projects screens in front of them. Jim places his tablet on the board.
"So everyone will be getting a copy of the application I created. It's called Supreme" Jim says.
"Supreme?" Molly asks.
"It's the ultimate computer firewall related tool. It not only hacks but protects your computers from hacking and viruses. It helps you discover networks, even if they are hidden. It's also deadly quiet and untraceable to Leap. She didn't even know I stole a file from her earlier this morning. It works as a VPN so even if discovered it changes and protects your IP address. It's also pretty quick." Jim says. He shows them an app called supreme. The logo is a hammer and a brick wall. He then opens the app.
"When I open it I can view all the networks near me. The limit to connection speed and distance is mostly based on how good their networks are. You can also use the USB cords for connection" Jim says.
The tablets use wireless even for charging, but they also came with USB- wireless pads. You just place the tablet on the flat pad and connect the USB to a computer.
"Leap gave me a set of other things to add to my requirements while building it. So we have some easy instructions you could use if you aren't connected to Leap. There are also complex ones, but the basic is that it gives you administrative permission once it hacks in" Jim says.
"So we can just walk in then?" Karol asks.
"Yes, you meet any door, just point your tab at it. It'll show an open icon, you click it and the door opens. I'd advice you to do your infiltration missions at night though. It makes it easier to keep the cameras on loop. The less people there are, the more the loop looks realistic" Jim explains.
"So we could go get that info right now?" Chase asks.
"Yeah, Leap will just run the program and it'll hack. Once she's in, without their notice we will copy all those files" Jim says.
"Wow Olu you're super smart" Molly says in a praising tone. The all laugh lightly as they know Jim will be ticked off. One thing they've realised bout Jim, he hates being called smart since he doesn't understand a quarter of what he's doing. Jim gives her a middle finger and they all chuckle some more.
"Alright Leap, Auto pilot please. Hmm, who do we hit first though?" Gert asks.
"Why don't we start from the Wilders?" Jim says.
"Alex's house it is" Gert says. Jim notices Nico looking a bit troubled.
'Is something bothering her?' Jim wonders. The ship lifts and they take off into the air.
"How fast do you want me to go?" Leap asks.
"How fast can you go?" Chase asks.
"Mach 15 is the safety limit" Leap replies.
"Mach?" Nico asks.
"Unit for the speed of sound in physics. I suggest we keep things subsonic though. When you break the sound barrier you create a lot of noise and effects" Victor says.
"Yeah, we don't want the air force on our asses, or our parents taking notice. Keep it bout seven forty miles per hour. We should get there in four hours then. Or we could just let Leap do this alone?" Jim says.
"Just go there without us?" Chase asks.
"I mean she's perfectly capable. She'll autopilot the ship. She's the one who runs the program and grabs the information. In her systems she'll then sort out all that info for us. So really, we're not needed" Jim says.
"Leap?" Gert looks at the frog hologram.
"I'm fully capable of this, there's really no need for you all to make this trip. I shall keep to subsonic speeds and stay cloaked. I shall arrive at each house and pilfer all their information. And I shall return" Leap says.
"The go and come is impossible if Olu wants to leave here by 3, right Leap?" Gert orders Leap.
"Yes Miss Yorkes".
"Yeah, why don't you guys get a motel for a night or two. She can go at night though. I can get started on Victor's issue without her" Jim says.
"Hmm, alright. We do need a bed once in a while" Gert says. Leap descends and opens the ramp. They all walk out, holding their tablets and their ear pods in their ears. Bz
"So back to training soldiers!" Gert barks with a grin. They all enter the barn.
They first start with the compulsory two hour martial arts lesson. Victor and Chase are the standouts with Victor ahead. Molly is close but can't compare with Victor who is a genius Android and Chase who has nothing else to do except physicals and meditation.
Since the discovery that Molly uses chi, she has also been working with the energy manipulators. Jim has been teaching them how he uses mana to enhance his body and it seems it's working for her and Karol. She can now last about a minute more than her original three minutes. Karol's super physique in her true form also showed improvement.
Karol taught them about a few of her attacks most of which are just blast rays. Victor took to this easier than Jim and Molly. When molly tried to blast she created bio electricity on her fingers for a few seconds before passing out tired. Jim discovered that blasts rays really take a lot of mana from him. When he tried with prana, it was way less taxing, but the prana didn't have an effect on anything in the barn and there's no way Jim is gonna hit someone with it.
Jim's main breakthrough was with Gert. Gert connected Jim to Old Lace so he could get a feel for how Gert does it. He felt like it was a bridge of prana from his mind to Gert's and Lace's. Jim then tried to send messages through the connection using prana and it worked. So now Gert has been working on her telepathy with Jim.
Nico's vocabulary has been expanding, and she shows up for Jim's meditation classes. It seems when she cuts herself she connects to a source of power that enables her to do magic.
"It feels very dark and terrible honestly. Honestly when I use it I have very dark thoughts. I think this corruption might be the reason my parents are villains" Nico told the group last week.
Jim internally related Nico's situation to his powers, and wonders where he absorbs his energy from.
They then talked about what they would do when they take care of their parents. They decided to come to a decision after they steal all the info. Jim decided to tell them about his blood test that Saturday.
Flashback.
"I asked Leap to do a blood test, she's told me the source of my powers" Jim says.
"And?" Karol asks.
"I'm a mutant. I possess this DNA genome present in about one percent of humanity. When it activates it mutates us and can give us anything from small physical mutations to superpowers" Jim says.
"One percent of the population huh. Maybe we won't stand out so much after this" Chase says.
"That's the problem. People superpowers are controversial in some of the major news Leap showed me. Terrorist attacks, Alien invasions, the Superhuman Registration Act, Sentinels, Terrigen Mists and a lot of other shit" Jim says.
"The normal humans seemed to mostly hate us and racist terrorist organisations were formed and from popular news reports I saw, some government officials openly backed them".
"So even the government could be against us" Gert says.
"It seems so" Jim says.
"Well we don't have to use our powers openly then. We already keep it a secret" Nico says.
"It's gonna be hard living after this" Molly says with a sad face.
"Come on we'll be fine. Besides we're super rich. We'll have futuristic tech along with Olu and Victor. We all just invest in my dad's company and live comfortably" Chase says.
"Seems you already got a plan" Karol says with a grin.
"He's planning to live off us" Jim says with a snicker.
"Hey, it'll be my company. Including Alex they are eight of us, I'll hold twenty percent you all can hold ten each. I'll also do lab work with you guys, after I get this memory thing under control. And I promise you that you won't have to do the company management thing" Chase says. Jim and Victor look at each other.
"I'm in, after we take care of my dad I'll support your company" Victor says. Chase grins and looks at Jim.
"I got one thing though. I'm not following you guys when you leave. After I move from this place when I think I'm ready, I'll go get my revenge. Maybe after that." Jim says.
"Revenge huh" Gert says.
"You're already so strong though. Do you feel it's not enough" Victor says.
"Learning more about the situation of the world from you guys and Leap made me review my experience with the people that killed my parents. I gave my father a gun to delay them. It didn't work at all. And some of the physical feats they accomplished to chase me are suspicious. So I've decided to train more. I can join your company after I take care of them and If you guys ever need help or assistance just get in touch" Jim says.
"You plan to kill them?" Molly says in a small voice.
"Yes, yes I do" Jim replies in a neutral tone. "They've probably done that to other people, and if someone doesn't end them they'll keep on doing it". No one said anything for a few minutes.
They've seen their parents sacrifice a teenage girl's soul to the Gibborim. The Pride has been doing this for eighteen years or more.
"Well you'll make a great back up" Karol said.
"Yeah, he hits so hard" Chase said talking bout their training.
"Pretty smart too" said Nico.
"Thanks guys" Jim says with a grin.
"You'd make a great guy in the chair" Chase says.
"Guy in the chair?" Jim asks. What happens next is Chase making a trip to the video store and buying a few awesome action packed movies.
Flashback End.
An hour later later a sweaty shirtless Jim and Victor are facing off. The team put hay and tarp they found on the floor to use as a makeshift mat so they can hit the floor with less pain.
'Right now Vic is the toughest opponent I've faced. He's taken to martial arts like fish to water. His natural superhuman speed, reactions and strength make him a troublesome foe' Jim looks at his hand, about two minutes ago had a large bruise, now nothing but a small swelling.
"Your feet, remember your positioning." Jim says reminding Victor who nods and tries to shift his feet. Jim strikes at that moment. He decides to use Sambo and Muay Thai skills.
He kicks off the ground and gets close. Unluckily for Victor he notices too late and Jim clinches him. Jim immediately performs a flying Thai, giving Victor a knee to his face. Victor's durability shrugging off most of the pain and injury. It doesn't stop him from stumbling back though he's soon regaining his balance.
Jim accelerates his mana flow making his body consume more energy and produce more strength. As he lands he moves beside Victor and performs a single overhook takedown. He encircles Victor's arm with his and shifts his weight, breaking Victor's centre of gravity. He then steps over his leg throwing Victor into the air.
"Oof" Victor feels the air in his lungs escape at the impact and is stunned.
"Third time you hit the floor"Gert says "Olu wins". Jim stretches out his arm and Victor takes it. Jim then pulls him up.
"Always expect the unexpected with martial artists. Also you won't be fighting in a ring in future. Your life depends on it. Stay on guard" Jim says making Victor sigh.
"Thanks" he says before leaving the ring. Molly then enters and stands facing Jim.
"My turn" She says with a smile. She positions her feet into a Muay Thai boxing stance.
"Good feet Molly. Remember, use the ability for hits you want to capitalize on and reduce it. It'll teach you control" Jim says and Molly nods. Jim meanwhile uses a simple martial arts stance with his hands up and left for forward.
Molly has been working on reducing the strain using her ability brings. For now if she goes all out, max five minutes then about four hours rest. Now though she's trying to enhance when wanting to land a critical hit in a move set. The increase in all her physical abilities will make that hit, faster and stronger than the previous ones. It'll also completely throw that person off. At night she's working on meditating with her powers on and getting more control over the increase in energy.
"Begin!" Gert shouts and Molly enhances herself rushing forward to make the first move. Jim has been teaching her a mix of Muay Thai and Brazillian Jiu-jutsu. He wants her to use strong heavy hits along with good grappling skills. Her super strength will be perfect for the two.
Molly bends her right hand showing her elbow, and uses the momentum to attack with it towards Jim's head. Jim pulls his head back letting the blow miss and changes into a Jeet Kun Do/Wing Chun mixed martial art stance. No more fists but instead showing his palms.
As Molly's blow misses she changes her pivot foot to her right and uses the momentum to swing her left leg's heel towards Jim's head. Jim guards his head absorbing the hit, a huge smack sounding. He grunts in pain but uses his martial art to encircle her leg before she retracts it. He pulls her closer and places her leg under his armpit. He then performs a sweeping kick on her planted leg for a single leg takedown. Molly's back hits the ground.
"First down! Jim takes the lead" Gert says. Jim steps back and puts his fists up waiting for Molly to stand.
'Fuck she hits harder than Victor. I know I said don't pull punches, I can take it, but isn't this too far' Jim says doing his best to mask the pain he's feeling in his left hand and shoulder.
"Come on Molly, is it always gonna be this easy?" Jim sticks his tongue out and gives her a huge grin. Molly smiles and gets up.
"Before we leave, I have to punch you hard enough. See if you grow teeth back as well" Molly says changing to a more jiu-jutsu based stance.
'Going for more grappling and groundwork. I'll be at a huge disadvantage if she grabs me' Jim thinks to himself. Jim immediately decides to go with Judo.
"Bring it!" Jim shouts. Molly immediately charges forward.
Twenty Minutes Later.
"Well great job guys, even you Gert. You made good use of your breath and the Aikido I've been teaching you" Jim says praising them all. Aikido is a reaction and evasion based martial art.
"Thanks, we all feel a lot better physically just after a week and a half" Nico says.
"So ready for meditation?" Jim says, they all nod and get into lotus positions.
Two days Later.
Friday 25th of August 2004.
On board the Leapfrog.
"Over one petabyte of information and data successfully downloaded and stored" Leap says.
"Woah, that's a lot of things to go through" Chase says.
"How goes the sorting?" Jim asks.
"By this night I should've sorted the data into various subjects. I shall also create reference links to help find related information. I'll also be equipping a search engine to it".
"Perfect, what's the memory limit of the tablets?" Jim asks. He wants information on science and technology. Anything on martial arts and meditation he wants as well. He also wants Leap's information from the future.
"The tablets are created to contain two petabytes of information" Leap replies.
"Damn, these things are really so advanced. Send us the things we asked for after sorting" Jim says.
"Of Course Master Olu".
"Well hopefully with that info we can create something that can allow us to access Victor's mind, and remove those codes" Gert says.
"Why don't we hit Victor's dad too?" Molly asks.
"Bad idea. We shouldn't go to war with an artificial life form capable of creating a bio-technological son. I'm telling you Victor's body is far more advanced than anything your parents have done. Besides hacking him will be like stabbing a knife into your hand. No way he wouldn't know" Jim says with a warning tone.
"True. When we go for Victor's dad we have to be fully prepared. I've been through some memories and I have to say Victor is a scientific work of art" Chase says.
"Alright then. Our main priority for now is getting those directives out of Victor's head" Gert says.
"I'll get on it tonight" Jim says.
"Thank you" Victor says looking down at his hands.
27 minutes till Midnight.
"You've sorted out everything?".
"Affirmative".
"Alright let me see" Jim says. The hologram screen shows various topics and sub topics. For instance Jim sees the basic three sciences. Then he sees biotechnology, biophysics, biochemistry. Leap was really thorough in making the info easier to go through. If he clicks on biochemistry he'll see a variety of topics on and related to biochemistry.
"I've been walking on the program part of things, but it seems Victor's issues needs us to create something" Jim says.
"Why don't you use your ability to draw and create the schematics?" Leap says.
"Oh, I have. Don't understand any of it though. Can I get this in grid form. I will use my ability to sort through, to get what I need and what's important. Also please start distributing that info".
"Of course Master Olu" Leap says, arranging the information from list to grid form. Jim cracks his fingers and stretches his back and neck. He reaches into his bag and brings out a pack of toblerone and cookies.
'Another long night' Jim thinks to himself as his fingers that go over a hundred words per minute hit the holographic keyboard.
Next week Tuesday. 29th of August, 2004.
After Group Meditation.
Time: 11:46 am.
"We have some of the tools. The Leapfrog's maintenance tools are brilliant enough. We just don't have the items required" Jim says.
"So we break into Stein Tech?" Chase asks.
"Friday night is a good enough time as any. We'll be in and out, I've already made an inventory of things we need. Your fistigons need an upgrade, Victor's technopathic helmet, we can get various raw materials, components and equipment from the Stein Tech which is also a Pride facility in Florida". Jim says.
"It's a good idea. The supreme hacking tool will make our job way easier" Gert says.
"Yes, but I have to say though, some of the things going on there are horrible" Jim says.
"What do you mean?" Nico asks, the rest of the team attentive. Jim sighs and explains.
"As you know your parents control most of the west's underground and illegal activities. To do that they need powerful soldiers and people. They have other dinosaurs, but that's something they don't use a lot" Gert already looks sick at the fact that they're dinosaurs being used by the pride.
"Apart from modern weaponry, they create this formula called SGH or MGH. It means superhuman growth hormone or mutant growth hormone. It's made from taking DNA from superhumans and creating a serum that gives people powers temporarily. The pride placed a few mutants and mutates they've created in a permanent coma and they've been harvesting their DNA to power their army" Jim says.
"Fuck we have to stop them!" Chase shouts.
"We can't! Cause if we do they'll just find other suitable people to use. We'll endanger more people that way. Besides if we do anything drastic they'll know someone is after them. It'll make them up their guard more!" Jim shouts also.
"But but we can't just leave them-".
"They're already in a permanent coma! We can't do anything bout them. If we do something we're not only putting more people in danger but ourselves too! The only thing we can do is to stop your parents" Jim says cutting Chase off. Chase just puts his head in his hands in frustration. Gert moves closer and wraps her arms round him.
"Fuck. I really hate my dad" Chase says.
"I know baby, I know" Gert says trying to soothe his anger.
"So what's the plan" Gert says turning to Jim.
Friday Night, 1st of September, 2004.
1:27pm
On board the Leapfrog.
Location: Florida.
"Your dad built a hidden private hangar that he uses to enter the base discreetly. The hangar's entrance is underwater, that is where we'll be using to enter the base. We'll get close enough for Leap and the tool to hack into the database and keep things quiet. We move from their hangars to the sub-levels containing hidden labs and storage directly using Mr Stein's personal elevator and grab the things we need from there. They won't notice anything as Leap would've edited their inventory. Thankfully there are no guards if we use that entrance and security is automated. Everything from lasers to rapid fire turrets to trained dinosaurs".
"Dinosaurs?" Gert asks.
"Yeah. They'll be in cages in various locations throughout the base. The sub levels don't have human guards but dinosaurs patrolling instead. There may be a few scientists here and there, but once Leap connects, she can tell us the situation with people and tell us where to get the things we need. The storage level is pretty huge" Jim says.
"After we take care of our parents what should we do about the dinosaurs?" Gert asks.
"Depends how rich we will be to me. We could just buy a private island and relocate them there" Chase says.
"Hmm, honestly that's perfect" Molly agrees and Gert nods.
"Alright Leap, submerge into the ocean and start hacking the facility once you get close enough" Gert says.
"Yes Miss Yorkes. I'm already close enough as the facility has strong communication technologies. I've begun the hacking. Preparing to submerge in 1,2,3..." The ship enters water as if diving and starts moving in the direction of underwater entrance.
"Let's try not to screw this up. My friend and teacher at camp find it weird that I'm suddenly leaving for the weekend. I don't want to have them worry" Jim says. Jim told Colleen and Mr Bakuto that he has some cousins that he wants to reconnect with a few towns over. He told them just today to make it seem like a more pressing issue and emergency.
He did the usual, heading to FEAST then Library. There he told the lady he forgot something after signing out and went upstairs to the roof and leaving from there. He could always tell her that he passed by with or without her notice. There won't be any sign of him at the library anyway.
They reach the underwater hangar which automatically opens as they get close. The ship goes in and they have to wait a moment as the space their in is drained of water, before being let into the main hangar.
They look around the metallic room they are currently in that has one or two ships similar in design with Leap's parked.
"So Leap, any adjustments needed?" Gert asks.
"No Miss Yorkes, the last employee granted access to the sub levels left two hours ago".
"Alright, what do we do bout the dinosaurs though" Chase asks.
"Well the Yorkes trained them to not attack those wearing armbands that have some heat patterns and give off this particular scent" Jim says looking at his tablet.
"Where do we get one?" Karol asks.
"The elevator has a closet where they keep a few things, spare lab coats and spare armbands" Jim says.
"Okay, what do we do with Old Lace?" Gert asks making everyone turn to the dinosaur who is presently munching on a large roast pig.
"We leave her here. I don't want to give up any chance of antagonising the other dinosaurs. Besides, she looks to be enjoying herself" Jim says.
"Alright here's how we do it then. There are four different storage rooms. Everyone except for Jim is gonna partner up, two to a team. The teams are Chase and I, Victor and Molly, Nico and Karol" Gert says.
"Where will Jim be then?" Chase asks.
"I'll be working on the final storage room. It contains fragile equipment and resources" Jim says and Chase nods.
"How will we know what to choose from and how to carry it?" Molly asks.
"I have a list for each storage room and what to take. Leap knows how they are arranged so she'll guide you. Also when you enter a storage room there are these huge carts you can use. They float off the ground, so take one and fill it with what we need" Jim says.
"You've really thought of everything" Karol says with admiration.
"I had a lot of time. Also with the stolen info and supreme, everything is pretty easy" Jim says matter of factly, still searching on the tablet making sure everything is in place.
"Alright, it seems they are fully stocked for the month. So everything is there and ready for the taking" Jim says.
"Perfect, any other suggestions" Gert says.
"Avoid the labs, a lot of bad stuff are in there, ranging from disgusting and unethical to dangerous. Don't let your curiosity get the better of you" Jim says looking intently at all of them. The runaways nod taking his advice seriously.
"Always wear your armbands. Leave everything on you except for the tablet, watches and ear pods on the ship. We shouldn't forget anything in there. Hmm, I guess that's it" Jim says.
"Alright guys, lets do this!" says Gert with some enthusiasm.
Twenty minutes later.
Jim and the rest of the crew are presently in Victor Stein's personal elevator. They've open his closet and taken these black armbands. Once activated the armbands became warm to the touch.
"This material is pretty heat resistant. The internal heat of this thing is pretty high and we are barely feeling a thing" Chase says pulling on his arm and a bit. It seems a bit quiet and he looks up to see everyone staring at him weirdly.
"Damn, that knowledge boost is really impressive" Gert says. Chase just rolls his eyes as Leap starts the elevator and it begins to descend.
"Ha, you and Jim have psychic powers" Chase says with a snort. Jim's little spare time is spent researching how to develop his powers and through information stolen, especially from the Hayes who are both psychics and the rest of the Pride except the Wilders, Jim discovered what prana actually was.
He discovered that prana is psionic or mental energy present in all intelligent life. The energy isn't physical but is just as dangerous if not more. Luckily he wisely chose not to hit anyone with it.
Leap gave him a book the Yorkes have in their files from the future. The book was written by Charles Xavier, a psychologist and mutant specialist, in the year 2021. The man is apparently a mutant psychic and in the book he spoke on various psychic abilities and imparted a lot of information on the human brain and mind.
Jim has fallen in love with the book and he hasn't even reached the second chapter. He has learnt what his other power is though. From various tests with the items he stole and information from Leap, he learnt that he is capable of Psychometry.
Once he realized that he cried for a few hours understanding that what he got from his mom's ring were her last moments in this world.
"Well yeah, but I still envy you Chase" Jim says with a smile. Chase just grins also feeling how cool his power is. He felt a bit left out since he had none before, but since discovering what he could do he feels a lot better.
The elevator dings signifying the first stop.
"Alright. Molly, Victor this is where you get off. More heavy duty equipment on here. Goodluck guys" Gert says. Victor nods stepping out into a plain hallway with metallic lustre and fluorescent lightbulbs. Molly grins and gives the rest of the team a thumbs up before leaving. The elevator door closes and they descend some more.
The 'ding' sounds again and the door opens to two dinosaurs staring at them. The team makes no move as the dinosaurs sniff the air and look at their armbands before walking away. Chase releases a breath he didn't realise he was holding.
"Alright this is where Chase and I get off. See you later guys" Gert says walking off the elevator. Chase gives a bye as well and hops off. The door closes as the ride continues.
"You guys are next. I get last sub level" Jim says.
"What's on the final sub level?" Nico asks.
"Although the Pride may not show up here a lot apart from regular supervisory check ups they do keep a special lab under each facility for their own personal use. The ones you guys are looting are the sub levels for the scientists that work here" Jim says.
"Hmm" Nico says just as the bell dings. Her and Karol get off.
"Later guys" Jim says as they step off.
"See you later Olu" Karol says as the door closes. The elevator starts to descend again.
"How are they doing Leap?" Jim asks.
"They are all on course to the storage rooms, Master Olu" Leap says in his ear pods.
"Alright. Anything that pops up alert us immediately".
"Alright sir". Jim hears a ding as the elevator stops. The doors open and he steps out into a similar hallway to the ones above.
'The first storage room has mostly finished technological products. High powered microscopes, computer and engineering parts. Victor and Molly were sent there cause there might be some heavy lifting to do.
The second storage room is filled with a mix of the first and third floors. The third storage room is for the main lab where most of the pride's resources like MGH is produced'.
Jim didn't want Chase to go to the third floor as he knows the facility's testing area is there. The people kept as lab rats and those harvested for DNA are on that floor. Nico and Karol are more cool headed and are less likely to make any rash decisions.
Although Gert is pretty strong, Jim knows she loves Chase and he doesn't want to put her in that tough situation. The whole team though has accepted that they have to stop their parents before handling the rest of the organization.
As Jim steps out of the elevator he meets two velociraptors who sniff him and walk away. This time he's sure they are velociraptors.
'Well lets get what we need and get the out of here'.
