Chapter 56 - Strange Encounter

"Stop, hey. . . hey I said stop" a voice shouted ceaselessly in the dead of the night, evidently trying to give chase to someone who wasn't willing to let what their ears hear to convince their mind to obey the plea. A hooded figure continued running as fast as its legs could take it without giving their pursuer a chance to catch up to it.

Dana didn't really understand why she was suddenly chasing this person, if a person is what it is in the first place. She tried calling for the person to stop but he made no indication to even slow down. She stopped briefly to catch her breath and get her wits together, loud heaving breathes escaped her lips clearly indicating she had been running for quite a while without stopping but why was she even in the middle of nowhere chasing after strangers that didn't want to be caught but for the life of her, she couldn't remember where their chase had begun or why.

'Am I losing my mind' she asked the question in her head as if expecting someone else whom she shares her soul with to give her a reply to her silent question like those cool MCs with a system that magically materialized as soon as they were reborn.

"Hey, wait up. Why are you even running away from me" she tried beseeching the retreating figure to no avail. This was getting to her for reasons even she didn't know.

'She is getting away Princess' a soft voice beckoned as if in hushed voices from more than one woman with the most beautiful voice. The kind of voice that resonates with something very deep inside, you find yourself acting on impulse like a rabid animal and she started giving chase again. She noticed that the dried leaves beneath her feet seem to propel her forward while at the same time they seemed to move with her feet like dirt being sucked into a vacuum cleaner. It felt strange and exhilarating at the same time, all her body seemed to be charged up with a certain type of energy. Something about the whole scenario felt repulsive and wrong on a fundamental level and yet, the desire to find the elusive figure in a hood was stronger than anything she has ever felt before.

"What is happening to me, have I become a total zombie" she found herself muttering again, her pace unhindered by her flustered brain. She stilled her resolve to find the hooded person no matter what, she knew that she might find a few answers from her about this bizarre situation she finds herself in.

"STOP" she let out in frustration, as if even the air listened to her command, everything around her stopped moving at once. She looked pleased with the outcome.

'So he wanted me to shout, could he not hear me before? Was my voice muffled by the wind?' she was being sarcastic and she knew it. She quickly closed the distance between them and stood directly behind her price. It certainly felt like winning the grand price after chasing this person the way she did.

"Won't you face me?" her voice came out a tad bit impatient even to her own ears but it couldn't be helped now, she blamed it on all the running.

Her question was met with silence which made her face twist into an ugly scowl. She didn't forget to note that there was no trace of fear in her bones during the entire ordeal, an obvious contrast to what she would be feeling in a real world having chased an unidentified hooded stranger into the heart of a forest that had tall trees that almost blocked the penetration of any light source, with no buildings in sight especially because nothing about the place screamed familiarity nor friendliness but here she was. Not that she would ever be crazy enough to chase a stranger in the first place, well maybe the exception being one who tries to make a run for it with her purse.

She decided that since she was feeling brave already, she might as well just walk around and see the person, upon laying eyes on the only part of their skin that was visible to the eye, the person had a smile painted on their thin lips . . .or was that a smirk? The hooded cloak covered all that a person could use to identify anyone, the hoodie went as far as to cover even the upper part of the person such that their eyes were hidden.

"Won't you speak to me at all?" she asked half-heartedly at the mute stranger and saw him tilt his head to the side. This worked overtime to tickle Dana's nerves and not in a good way. "Fine" she took a step towards the stranger and before he could register what happened, Dana had removed the hoodie to reveal his face.

"H-how, w-hwhy. . .are-" she gasped, involuntarily taking a few steps back at the shock of what she just saw which led to her tripping over a root and falling flat on her bottom.

"Find me" the female voice said as if fading this time, the two words repeating over and over in her head.

'gasp'

Dana shot up from her bed, the words and shock still lingering in her head.
