Chapter 254 - Vol.06 Ch.34 – THE PARAMOUNT WAR (1)

The last words echoed through the frozen halls of Impel Down.

"We're going to Marineford."

Luffy stood at the entrance to the hidden passage, still visibly weakened from Magellan's poison. His legs trembled beneath him, and Sabo remained close enough to catch him if he stumbled. Beside them, Baby-5 and Bon Clay prepared themselves for the difficult escape ahead, while Ivankov and the Newkama gathered behind them.

They had entered Impel Down to save Ace.

They had failed to reach him before he was taken to Marineford.

But somewhere beyond the prison walls, the execution had already begun.

And Marineford was waiting.

Far across the sea, dawn broke over a fortress built for war.

Marineford stood beneath a pale morning sky, its massive walls stretching across the horizon like an impenetrable barrier. Towering structures surrounded the central plaza, while countless cannons lined the fortress walls and the surrounding harbor.

Hundreds of Marine soldiers occupied every available position.

Battleships filled the waters beyond the fortress, their cannons pointed toward the open sea. Officers moved rapidly between defensive positions, relaying orders while Den Den Mushi carried commands throughout the massive base.

This was no ordinary military operation.

The Marines had prepared for the arrival of the world's strongest pirate.

And today, the entire world was watching.

At the center of Marineford stood the execution platform.

Two massive executioners waited at either side of the raised structure, their weapons resting against their shoulders. Behind them stood Sengoku, dressed in his formal Marine uniform, his expression stern as he looked across the plaza.

Nearby, the three Admirals had already taken their positions.

Sakazuki.

Kuzan.

Borsalino.

None of them spoke.

They simply waited.

Below the platform, Marine officers and soldiers filled the plaza in formation. The atmosphere was unnaturally quiet despite the enormous number of people gathered there.

Everyone understood what was coming.

A war.

And before the war began, there would be an execution.

Footsteps sounded against the stone stairs.

The crowd slowly turned.

A group of heavily armed Marines emerged first.

Between them walked a young man in orange shorts and a white shirt, his wrists tightly bound in Seastone restraints.

Portgas D. Ace.

The former commander of Whitebeard's Second Division was escorted toward the platform.

Ace walked without resistance.

His head remained lowered slightly, his expression calm despite the thousands of Marines surrounding him.

The chains around his wrists rattled softly with every step.

As he reached the stairs, Ace briefly raised his eyes.

The execution platform waited above him.

He knew what awaited him there.

He continued walking.

At the top of the platform, Ace was forced to his knees.

The Seastone restraints prevented him from using his Devil Fruit, but Ace made no attempt to resist. He simply looked toward the horizon beyond Marineford's walls.

The sea was calm.

Almost too calm.

Ace stared at it for several seconds.

He knew his father would never abandon him.

And somewhere out there, he knew another person was probably trying to reach him.

His younger brother.

Luffy.

Ace closed his eyes briefly.

Don't come.

The thought came without hesitation.

He knew Luffy.

If Luffy knew he was being executed, there was no chance he would simply stay away.

Ace exhaled quietly.

"That idiot…"

A faint smile appeared on his face before disappearing again.

Behind him, a familiar voice spoke.

"You've become quite popular, Ace."

Ace opened his eyes.

He didn't need to turn around.

"Old man…"

Garp stood several steps behind him.

The old Marine's usually relaxed expression had disappeared.

His fists were clenched tightly at his sides.

Garp had faced countless pirates throughout his life. He had stood against monsters of the sea and survived battles that had become legends.

Yet none of those moments had prepared him for this.

He was watching his grandson kneel before an execution platform.

And he could do nothing.

"Don't make that face." Ace glanced back at him.

"What face?" Garp's jaw tightened.

"The one that makes it look like you're regretting all of this."

"Shut up." Garp's eyes hardened.

"You've always been terrible at hiding your feelings." Ace gave him a faint smile.

Garp looked away.

For a moment, neither spoke.

"Garp." Sengoku stepped forward.

Garp's expression changed.

Sengoku didn't need to say anything else.

The execution would proceed as planned.

Garp slowly moved away from Ace and took his position near the platform.

Ace watched him go.

His expression softened.

Then he looked toward the sea again.

The wind moved across Marineford.

Somewhere beyond that horizon, the forces of Whitebeard were approaching.

But there was another thought that troubled him.

Luffy...

Ace lowered his gaze.

He didn't know whether his brother had received the news.

He didn't know whether Luffy had found a way into Impel Down.

He didn't know whether he was already on his way.

But if he was—

Ace knew exactly what Luffy would do.

"Don't come…"

His voice was barely audible.

Below the platform, the Marines maintained their positions.

The Shichibukai stood among them, each separated from the others.

Mihawk remained completely still, his sharp eyes fixed on the battlefield beyond the harbor.

Doflamingo wore a faint smile as he surveyed the massive Marine force.

Moria looked toward the sea with anticipation.

Kuma stood silently.

Edward Weevil stood among them, eager to prove his strength.

The massive pirate gripped his weapon tightly, his expression impatient as he waited for the battle to begin.

A Marine officer rushed past the Shichibukai, shouting orders.

"Maintain formation!"

"Do not leave your assigned positions!"

"Watch the bay!"

"Any unidentified vessel is to be reported immediately!"

The tension continued to rise.

Doflamingo glanced toward the execution platform. "So this is the man everyone is willing to start a war over…"

Mihawk said nothing.

His gaze remained fixed upon the sea.

Moria grinned. "Whitebeard should be here soon."

Weevil tightened his grip. "I'll crush that fake son and prove I'm Father's real son!"

Doflamingo laughed softly. "Fufufu… Let's see how long that confidence lasts."

Above the plaza, the enormous broadcast Den Den Mushi continued transmitting.

Across the world, countless people watched Marineford.

In towns.

In villages.

In kingdoms.

Inside taverns and homes.

Everyone had been given a front-row seat to the event that could reshape the era.

The camera slowly turned toward the execution platform.

Ace remained kneeling.

Sengoku stepped forward.

The murmurs across Marineford gradually disappeared.

One by one, the Marines fell silent.

Garp lowered his head.

The three Admirals remained motionless.

The Shichibukai watched.

Ace slowly raised his eyes toward Sengoku.

The Fleet Admiral looked down at him. "Portgas D. Ace."

Ace said nothing.

Sengoku's voice carried across the plaza.

"You are here because the World Government has determined that your existence poses a threat to the stability of the world." Sengoku continued. "You are the commander of the Second Division of the Whitebeard Pirates."

Ace's eyes narrowed slightly.

A murmur passed through the Marines.

Everyone already knew that.

But Sengoku had not finished.

Ace looked toward him.

There was something different in Sengoku's expression.

Something heavier.

"The man kneeling before you is not merely a subordinate of Edward Newgate."

The plaza became completely silent.

Ace's eyes widened slightly.

Sengoku looked directly toward the broadcast Den Den Mushi.

His next words would be heard around the entire world.

"The reason this execution is necessary…" Sengoku paused. "...is because the blood flowing through this man's veins belongs to a name that the World Government can never allow to return."

Ace's expression hardened.

Garp's eyes widened.

Even the Marines seemed confused by the statement.

"Portgas D. Ace." Then he spoke. "Tell us who your father really is."

"My father is Whitebeard."

"That is not the truth." Sengoku took another breath. "Portgas D. Ace is the biological son of Gol D. Roger."

"No. My father is Whitebeard. Edward Newgate."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

For a moment, nobody moved.

The words seemed to hang above Marineford, too heavy for anyone to process.

Gol D. Roger.

The name of the Pirate King had not been spoken with such weight in years.

Then the silence shattered.

"What did he say?!"

"Roger had a son?!"

"That's impossible!"

"He's Roger's blood?!"

The reaction spread through the Marine ranks like a shockwave. Soldiers who had been standing rigidly moments earlier began whispering among themselves, some staring at Ace with disbelief, others looking toward Sengoku as though waiting for him to correct what they had just heard.

He didn't.

Sengoku stood firmly before the world.

His voice came through the broadcast Den Den Mushi once again.

"Yes. The man kneeling before you is the biological son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger."

The words reached every corner of the world.

In distant kingdoms, people gathered around newspapers, Den Den Mushi broadcasts, and public screens. Merchants stopped working. Sailors abandoned their conversations. Entire streets fell silent as the revelation spread from one island to another.

The son of Gol D. Roger was alive.

And the World Government was about to execute him.

Sengoku continued.

"After Roger's death, the World Government conducted an extensive search for any child who might have inherited his bloodline. We could not allow the Pirate King's bloodline to survive and give rise to another generation capable of carrying on his legacy."

Ace remained motionless.

His expression did not change.

But his fingers slowly curled against the stone beneath him.

He had spent his entire life carrying that name without allowing it to define him.

For years, he had wondered whether the world would ever learn the truth.

Now there was nowhere left to hide it.

The realization spread quickly.

Ace was not merely the son of Roger.

He was also one of Whitebeard's most powerful commanders, serving under Edward Newgate, the man known throughout the world as Whitebeard.

The execution was no longer simply about eliminating a single pirate.

The World Government was attempting to erase two legacies with a single execution—

the blood of Roger and the son Whitebeard had chosen to call his own.

Garp remained silent.

His eyes were fixed on Ace.

For years, he had tried to protect the boy from the consequences of his birth. He had entrusted him to a family that could give him a chance to live without the shadow of Roger hanging over his head.

But the past had finally caught up with them.

Garp's fists trembled.

Sengoku glanced toward him.

"Garp."

The old Marine did not answer.

His eyes remained lowered.

Sengoku's voice became quieter. "You knew this day would come."

"I know." Garp slowly raised his head.

"Then don't let your emotions interfere."

For a moment, the Fleet Admiral and the legendary Marine stared at each other.

Garp's expression was hard.

But beneath it was pain.

"I know what my duty is."

Garp turned his eyes back toward Ace.

Sengoku said nothing.

Ace noticed.

Their gazes met.

Neither man spoke.

Ace gave him a small smile.

Garp's expression tightened.

He looked away.

On the other side of the battlefield, the Whitebeard Pirates had heard the revelation as well.

"So they finally said it." Marco's eyes narrowed.

Jozu clenched his fists. "They're using Roger's name to justify the execution."

"They want the whole world to believe Ace's blood makes him dangerous." Vista's expression darkened.

Marco looked toward the distant execution platform.

Ace was still kneeling there.

"He's still our commander." Jozu continued. "And our brother."

Around them, the crews allied with Whitebeard reacted with growing fury.

Some had known Ace's true lineage.

Others had learned it only moments ago.

But none of that mattered now.

They had come for one reason.

To bring Ace home.

Whitebeard stood at the center of his fleet, his massive figure towering above the deck.

His eyes remained fixed on Marineford.

The revelation did not surprise Whitebeard.

If anything, it confirmed what he had already suspected.

The World Government was trying to turn Ace's execution into a declaration.

A declaration that the era of Roger was over.

A declaration that Whitebeard's era would end with him.

Whitebeard's hand tightened around his weapon.

"So that's the game you're playing…" His voice was low.

The men around him fell silent.

Whitebeard looked toward Ace.

"That boy ain't a symbol." His gaze hardened. "He's my son."

The words carried across the deck.

The men around him answered with renewed determination.

"Yeah!"

"We're bringing Ace back!"

"No matter what it takes!"

Whitebeard's expression remained calm.

But beneath that calm was the certainty of a man who had already decided how far he was willing to go.
