With that settled I left my realm and started leaving the chamber at top speed. Thankfully there were air vents leading to it that I shot out of in elemental form and returned to the castle. The first years were in the midst of getting sorted when I slipped into the great hall. Since my passing off ceremony wouldn't be until after this I wasn't late. Dumbledore eyed me with interest as I took a seat at the Ravenclaw table but that was it. He clearly knew I had done something during this time but he wasn't sure what.-
I certainly wasn't going to tell him either. After Voldemort had opened the chamber fifty years ago and had the Basilisk attack students and eventually kill one he definitely didn't want it opened again. Even if he knew I only did it to collect the snake inside he'd be even MORE worried because the thing is exactly why he didn't want it opened. Basilisk are considered dark magic of the highest sort because of how unnaturally they are born. They are also proportionally one of the single most dangerous magical creatures ever. -
Venom with no cure so toxic it can destroy the magic of something like a Horcrux that is nigh indestructible normally. A gaze that can petrify or kill directly and a body covered in armored scales with a magical resistance little different than a dragons. Even worse like all snakes Basilisk become MORE dangerous with age unlike dragons that plateau at adulthood. They get bigger, more toxic and harder to counter while even their one major weakness, the crowing of roosters, gets mostly neutralized. The actual process of making a Basilisk is both complicated and not at the same time.-
First you need a seven year old rooster. You then have to use the dark ritual of unnatural birth to force the rooster to lay an egg. This kills the rooster by the way. You then soak the egg in a dark potion before pouring in the power of the Sirius constellation creating the vessel of the Basilisk, a black egg. From there you place the egg under a toad to incubate and the moment the toad dies the new Basilisk is born. They only obey parseltongue however so despite being fierce powerful creatures they usually end up killing the arrogant wizards that try to raise one themselves.-
The steps sound complicated but they can be diluted to simply getting a seven year old roosters egg, soaking it in potion, hit it with a dark ritual and leave it under a toad until it hatches. All together not that complicated since there was no real reason to push everything together all at once. You just have to follow each step one at a time without any hurry. Anyways I could easily accomplish these steps myself if I wanted to but saw no reason why I should. A perfectly good Basilisk already existed under the school so why not just claim that one? -
Admittedly I was expecting a very different personality from the snake given the dialogs that we get from it in the books and movies but that could easily be explained as the soul in the diary messing with it's mind somehow. Regardless the sorting ceremony went on without much fanfare beyond the usual excitement at getting new students before Dumbledore stepped up to the podium to speak.-
"A new year comes promising exciting possibilities. As some of you may have noticed this years Defense against the Dark arts professor is none other than the renowned Gilderoy Lockhart, please give him a warm welcome." he said with a gentle smile as Lockhart stood and bowed at the students with that smile of his that made me want to knock his teeth out.
The man wasn't anything all that special appearance wise. Slightly curly blonde hair, blue eyes and a slightly above average face that had deep lines at the sides of his mouth from clearly smiling too much. I scanned him with my haki before letting out a dismissive snort that drew offended looks from more than a few Ravenclaw girls who thought he was great. -
I ignored them as there was no arguing with fans without overwhelming proof. And explaining that his magical power was so pitifully weak it was impossible he did any of what he claims wouldn't count since no one else could prove it the same way. After the applause died down Dumbledore went back to speaking.
"In normal years this would be when I would summon the feast for you but as it happens there is one last piece of excitement. One of our own has been accepted to take part in a student exchange this year with our french sister school Beauxbatons. Would Alexander Drake please step up for the official exchange ceremony? And would you all please show Headmistress Madam Olympia Maxime and her student a proper Hogwarts welcome?" he spoke with a wide smile as the great hall burst into uproar.
