Could this be a coincidence... or a sign from God? I wondered, a surge of joy rising within me.
You couldn't blame me. How else was I supposed to explain Heaven calling me at that exact moment, just when my thoughts had been consumed by her?
My heart quickened with excitement. Without a second thought, I reached for the phone and pressed the green answer button. The ringing stopped instantly.
I lifted the phone to my ear, eager to hear the sound of her voice.
"Pastor Alex..."
The voice was unmistakable.
Even in my dreams, I would have recognized it.
"Heaven?" I said, immediately sensing the fear in her voice. "Calm down, dear. Tell me what's wrong."
She tried to speak, but her words dissolved into sobs.
"Pastor... my... my..." she gasped, struggling to catch her breath.
"Take your time," I said gently. "I'm listening."
"My father..." she cried. "...he's dead."
A wave of shock swept through me.
"Jesus!" I exclaimed.
