The key slid into the lock with practiced ease.
A soft click broke the silence.

Then Nevaeh slowly turned the handle, and the door creaked inward, revealing a room swallowed by darkness. The heavy curtains blocked the last traces of evening light, leaving only a faint outline of the furniture visible through the gloom.
Without a word, Nevaeh stepped inside.
Peter followed a pace behind, instinctively glancing around as his eyes struggled to adjust. The room was unnervingly quiet, disturbed only by the gentle sound of their footsteps across the floor.
Nevaeh walked ahead with quiet confidence, while Peter closed the door behind them. The latch clicked into place, sealing them inside the darkened room.
Peter could restrain himself no longer. He wrapped his hand around her and pulled her close. She allowed her handbag to fall off before turning to face him and slid her hands through him for a tight embrace.
