Beyond it, darkness stretched across the landscape like a velvet blanket, interrupted only by the occasional shimmer of rain beneath the distant streetlights. A steady wind swept through the trees, setting their branches into a restless dance. Leaves rustled in whispered conversations while the wind curled around the corners of the house, humming an eerie yet soothing melody.
Judith stood beneath the shower, closing her eyes as cool streams of water cascaded over her shoulders and down her body. The gentle spray washed away the day's fatigue, easing the tension from her muscles and quieting the excitement that still fluttered inside her heart.
She couldn't stop smiling.
