She took a few steps forward and vaguely felt something was amiss, so she looked back.
But there was nothing behind her, just emptiness.
"Brother Liu, is that you?"
Kali called out, thinking it might be the security guard who hadn't gone far.
But no one responded.
She must have been suffering from insomnia lately, which led to hallucinations as a result of poor rest.
Kali didn't think much of it, went to the elevator, and pressed the button to go down.
Walking out of the office building, the wind blew across her face, bringing the refreshing coolness of the night, as if to dispel the irritations in her heart.
Kali slowed her pace as she moved toward the taxi stand.
Passing by a greenery area, she again heard a strange set of footsteps behind her. She halted, turning her head again.
But aside from a few scattered pedestrians not far away, there was no one behind her.
For an instant, Kali couldn't distinguish whether the feeling of being followed was an illusion.
