Yu Qi was finally back in town. Ming Yue and Su Xiao had strongly wanted her to stay at the Tang House, but the idea was immediately rejected by Grandpa Tang. Grandpa Tang absolutely hated staying in FINN City, which was exactly why he had moved out to the countryside in the first place.
He originally came from the town. The legendary Godly Herbs had been inherited by him from his old master, and these Godly Herbs were the true backbone of the Tang Hospital. Without them, the Tang Hospital would not be standing where it is right now.
Yu Qi also preferred to go back to the town, as she still had some unfinished matters to handle there. Besides, the town was much more convenient for her secret. Whenever she wanted to bring something out of her hidden space, the nearby mountain served as the perfect excuse.
This morning, she headed over to the land she had bought near the lake, bringing Aoi along with her. She wanted to check on the progress of the construction work. The workers had already started building her mansion and the greenhouse at the same time as the hotel. The greenhouse was already 80% completed.
She could not wait to see the finished greenhouse, as she was eager to plant all kinds of flora inside it. She specifically wanted to test whether the seeds taken from her special space would produce the exact same incredible outcome when grown in the outside world.
She walked down to the lake. The colour of the water here was beautifully clear, completely untouched by pollution. As she walked closer to the water's edge, she took a deep breath of the wonderfully fresh air.
'Master, there is someone over there.' Aoi called out, instantly alerting her.
'Where?'
'Right over there.'
Yu Qi turned in the direction Aoi was pointing. Sure enough, there was someone standing right by the deep edge of the lake. More likely than not, she looked like she wanted to jump inside. It turned out her dark guess happened to be entirely true.
Without warning, that person jumped straight into the lake. Yu Qi quickly bolted toward the spot and dove into the water. She swam hard toward the drowning figure, who was already unconscious by the time she reached her. Using all her strength, she pulled the limp body back onto the dry ground.
The person was a woman. Yu Qi quickly began performing CPR on her without wasting a single second. After about 30 seconds of tense chest compressions and rescue breaths, the woman finally regained consciousness. She weakly opened her eyes, gasping for air.
"Why did you save me?" The woman muttered.
She did not even look at Yu Qi, choosing instead to just stare blankly up at the sky.
"Then let me ask you this instead. Why did you want to commit suicide? Do you honestly think that if you kill yourself, that person will feel sad? The answer is a definitive no." Yu Qi said, trying to stabilise her own ragged breath.
The woman kept entirely quiet. Yu Qi suddenly recognised this woman's face. She was Chui Mei Fung. In her past life, this person had been married to an incredibly ungrateful man. She had supported him financially through thick and thin until he finally became successful.
But once he made it, that horrible man found another woman, confiscated all of Chui Mei Fung's remaining money, and divorced her without leaving her a single penny. To make matters worse, he used the malicious excuse that she was the one having an affair with another man.
In her past life, Yu Qi had only heard rumours that she had committed suicide, but she never knew exactly how she did it. Now, she was witnessing it firsthand. Considering the current situation, she must have been divorced by that scum of a man already. Feeling like she had absolutely no reason left to live, she had chosen to end it all here. She was only 29 years old.
"How do you know about that?" Chui Mei Fung asked weakly.
"Who doesn't know about it by now? Practically everyone knows." Yu Qi answered honestly.
Chui Mei Fung bit her lower lip painfully. Everyone knew her humiliating story. She had been labelled a slut by outsiders who did not care to know the actual truth. Even this young girl standing in front of her knew all about it.
"If you already knew everything, then why did you bother to help me? You should have just let me die instead." Chui Mei Fung sobbed.
"I prefer to think with my own brain and analyse the actual situation. I don't listen with my ears and believe idle gossip." Yu Qi replied, throwing a sharp insult at the town's gossickers.
Chui Mei Fung chuckled softly, finally looking up at the girl. This was Yu Qi, the well-known orphan. This girl also had quite a story of her own. Chui Mei Fung had heard about how this brave girl had stood up against her toxic adoptive family.
"Do you want to make a deal with me?" Yu Qi suddenly asked out of nowhere.
A brilliant idea for Chui Mei Fung's future had just crossed her mind.
"What kind of deal?" Chui Mei Fung could not help but feel deeply curious about this mysterious girl.
"Let's talk about that a little later. Can you walk right now?" Yu Qi stood up, brushing the wet sand off her soaked clothes. The cold wind was starting to make her shiver.
"Yes." Chui Mei Fung slowly stood up as well.
"Let's go then. Aoi, we are going home. Come on." Yu Qi called out to Aoi, who had been playing around nearby.
Aoi quickly trotted over, following his master closely.
...
"Grandfather, can this person stay with us for a little while?" Yu Qi asked, making sure to get her grandfather's permission first.
Grandpa Tang was visually shocked when he saw the two of them walking through the door completely dripping wet.
"Just go and take a hot shower first. You will both get terribly sick if you stay in those wet clothes any longer. Chu Xiao, go and show this lady to a guest room." Grandpa Tang ordered, waving his hand urgently.
"I will explain everything to you later, Grandpa." Yu Qi smiled warmly at Grandpa Tang.
"Humph! If you don't want to talk later, I will find a way to make you talk." Grandpa Tang smirked playfully.
"Okay." Yu Qi laughed softly, heading off to her room with Aoi following behind.
In the meantime, Chui Mei Fung silently followed Hang Chu Xiao down the hallway to a quiet guest room.
After the two of them had taken their showers and changed into fresh, dry clothes, Yu Qi asked Chui Mei Fung to follow her down to the dining room. Grandpa Tang, Hang Chu Xiao, and Song Nan were already waiting there. Yu Qi took her seat, and Chui Mei Fung sat down right next to her.
They ate their dinner in relative silence. Once the meal was finally over, Grandpa Tang sat back, eagerly waiting for the promised explanation. However, Yu Qi just sat there, not saying a word.
"Yu Qi dear, care to explain to me now?" Grandpa Tang asked, growing impatient.
"She wanted to die, and I saved her." Yu Qi explained bluntly.
Grandpa Tang's lip twitched with annoyance. Had this girl been spending way too much time around Tang Qin Hao lately? Why on earth did she never explain things properly?
"Explain it in more detail, please."
"She was betrayed by her ex-husband. She wanted to kill herself by drowning in the lake, and I happened to see it happen. So, I jumped in and saved her."
"And then?"
"I want to make a specific deal with her. That's why I brought her back here."
Yu Qi then turned her gaze toward the completely silent Chui Mei Fung. Chui Mei Fung unconsciously sat up straight the moment she felt Yu Qi's serious eyes locking onto her. She wondered intensely what kind of deal this young girl could possibly want to make with her.
"Tell me... do you want revenge?"
