Yes, there are independent or group task for the recruits to complete. One can go out to complete it. The task are not like killing pirates , capturing them.

Jack take his some items to go. Jack didn't take any ship to go. He want to try a move to fly. Jack want to use geppo and use his devil fruit at a time.
Before he just want to use his power to fly just like Kizaru but he cannot change himself into a lightning arrow. He used geppo first to jump in the air then used his speed to go further distance.
To be fast he need to have a ground so he replace it with geppo and runs towards nearby base.
He didn't took any rest halfway since his stamina increased during training. He now eats more than Luffy.
It took few hours to arrive at the nearby base. He took the map to see the location. It will take roughly half day using boat. He took his time to reach there.

Jack gave him and went to boss to beat him up. He used his powers directly without any delay. He killed them and took Katz head as proof. He just need to give it to nearby base then his task is complete.
He want to spend some time here. So he cleaned the blood and carried it in a bag for awhile
