Chapter 63 - Secret Meeting with the King (4)

Arcturus took in the story of his previous existence's weak power but undying willpower silently, without speaking a word. Knowing that he was once a weak Wind Wolf that still somehow fought through death countless times without budging an inch, and even carrying Luca towards martyrdom without hesitation gave him many emotions that he just couldn't quite define. Amazed towards his tenacity, fearful of how many times he died, proud that he fulfilled his duties above and beyond the norm, grateful that he had been changed by the deities, and, most likely the strongest emotion he could understand out of the many, happy that he had a second chance with his partner.

As Arcturus's mind swarmed with thoughts about his past life, King Arthur sighed deeply after a moment in quiet contemplation, "You've certainly given me a lot to think about, and I already understand why you requested to meet privately." His fingers tapped on the chair's armrest intermittently, "In all honesty, initially, I thought you were attempting to deceive me with clearly made up information... When you mentioned my daughter Samantha, I had an urge to remove your head briefly." Luca had expected as much, as the king's outburst had shown that fact. "As you went over the events of the future, I watched your eyes unceasingly. Very few people can mask or deny truth with their eyes, and royals are expected to be masters of spotting those that can along with those that can't. Your eyes were clear but heavy with emotion deep enough for me to imagine such events. After I saw your eyes, most of my doubts cleared up, save for one."

As if expecting the king to say such, Luca nodded calmly, "The topic of proof, correct?" Arthur Valar nodded, indicating for the boy to continue, "If not for the Twin Lords having very little power to spare while they hold the barrier together, I'd ask to have our Pope speak with the Lord of Light. The other factional deities are also preoccupied with the barrier, leaving only the neutrals. Of them, Lady Fortuna, Nemesis and Themis would be the best to speak with, but they aren't known to respond. Aside from asking deities, there is an alternative which would require the assistance of the High Elves. In particular, I would need the assistance of the Dreamwalker."

"The Dreamwalker," Arthur's eyes narrowed upon hearing this title, "is highly classified information. In assuming that you are indeed from the future, it would not surprise me if you knew of her. I'm guessing you need her Unique Magic?"

Luca nodded, rubbing his jaw with one hand after so much speaking, "To be specific, I need her Memory Magic. One of her spells, Mnemonic Projection, can display a screen that shows whatever the target's mind is thinking of. With her assistance, I can display the truth without any fallacies. Considering the importance of this information, I believe that the Dreamwalker's assistance is irreplaceable."

"I'm sure you know that the High Elves protect her more than they protect their Queen. Getting support from them won't be easy. They'll likely demand compensation." Having lived two-thirds of his life as the king gave Arthur a deep understanding of his fellow nations. The High Elves retain the innate pride of their predecessor species, the Ancient Elves, a trait that most other races found irritating. Only some people were treated as equals to them, and even fewer were respected. On the positive side, this also influenced their internal culture, as every High Elf was considered equal, while only those of great power or status were respected.

"I'm certain they will. I have already prepared something for this scenario. For the Dreamwalker's assistance, I intend to trade them some information they'll certainly be interested in. When you contact them and they mention compensation, tell them that I'll give them the location of the resting place of the lost expedition to Hylaneas, the recorded homeland of the fifth elven race, the Snow Elves. This alone won't be enough despite several of the expeditionary members being extremely important. What's important is that I'll include the location of the artifact they took with them on the expedition. I've seen it before so, with the Dreamwalker's magic, they can see for themselves that it matches their records." Luca did not waste his free time prior to his arrival in the capital. He'd long prepared ways to convince the king to contact the High Elves and, afterwards, convince them to assist him. A lot of his information was future-based and needed certain events to occur. Some did not need them and could be doled out at any time. The expedition was of the latter kind and Luca could use the information immediately.

"I've heard of the Snow Elves. The fifth race descended from the Ancient Elves, suspected to be extinct. I never knew the High Elves attempted an expedition to find them." The records in the royal library, and especially those limited to the king's eyes alone, did not have information on such an event. "Based on that, I can assume this was either a very long time ago and therefore buried in time or a secret venture."

Luca was not surprised at the king's insights, "It was both, in fact, as the expedition set out in 2:019 Heroic, a few years after the first appearance of the demons, in an attempt to locate and seek help from the Snow Elves. Considering it has been more than a thousand years since the expedition and they never returned, they were assumed to have failed. Their resting place was discovered in 4:066 Divine, a year after the exodus to Skywatch. I did not personally visit the location, but I have seen the artifact they took on their journey and a carefully-made copy of the expedition leader's journal. I can't tell you the particulars of the expedition's members or the artifact without the High Elf Queen's consent, though, as it was one of her predecessors who listed the event as supremely confidential due to the severity of its mission. However, this information alone should easily convince them to agree."

A brief moment of silence filled the study, interrupted by the inconstant tapping of the king's fingers on his chair as he pondered. For whatever reason, even he couldn't really come up with one, Arthur Valar decided to gamble on the Dragonborn boy's words. "Alright, I'll see what I can do." His eyes once again narrowed to a dangerous glare as he said, "You'd best hope you receive a favourable answer."
