Chapter 158 - Chapter 158: The Carved Channels

Within the basalt walls of the cultivation chamber, the silence was absolute, heavy with the spirit-blocking runes of the isolation array, which cut off all sound, light, and spiritual fluctuations from the outside world.

Fang Lin sat cross-legged on the simple straw mat in the center of the basalt room. The air was cool and static, smelling of dry stone and old dust. The blue-glowing isolation runes carved into the heavy stone walls cast long, flickering silhouettes across the floor, matching the slow, rhythmic rising and falling of his chest.

His chest was currently a dark, chaotic void of shattered meridian fragments and raw, swirling spiritual energy. The deliberate reverse Qi strike he had executed had completely dissolved his reconnected pathways, leaving his body in a state of absolute structural collapse. The pain of this internal destruction was intense and relentless, a cold, scraping fire that burned through his flesh, nerves, and bones, threatening to tear his consciousness apart. Yet, Using his Peak-Solid Soul, Fang Lin locked his mind in a state of absolute, icy focus, refusing to let the agony drag him into the dark sleep of unconsciousness.

"You must not lose your grip," the Dark Flame Spirit's voice whispered in his thoughts, her childlike tone carrying a rare, serious weight. "If your soul wavers for even a single breath, the raw Qi will run wild, and your dantian will collapse into a formless explosion. In the ancient times, when the old master traveled the outer worlds, I saw many proud geniuses of the starry sects who tried to carve their own channels. I remember a young fire-aligned prodigy who tried to split their paths to hold both purging flame and nether frost. Their soul wavered for a mere fraction of a second during the alignment, and their entire foundation collapsed, turning them into a pool of molten glass. You must be steadier than that."

"I am ready," Fang Lin thought back, his resolve remaining as solid as the basalt floor beneath him. "My soul has been tempered in the trials, and my resolve is not so easily broken."

In the silent theater of his mind, he recalled the metallurgical lessons he had observed in Uncle Zhang's smithy over the last six months. A master blacksmith did not merely weld a cracked iron tool; he folded the hot metal, heating and hammering different layers of hard and soft steel together to forge a blade that was both flexible and strong, using the solid weight of the anvil to absorb the kinetic shockwaves. Rebuilding his meridians was the same. He did not need to patch his old, narrow pathways. He had to forge a new, multi-layered foundation capable of supporting his unique physical and spiritual essences.

Fang Lin focused his divine sense, drawing the scattered fragments of his meridians together in the center of his chest.

Slowly, under the guidance of his soul strength, he began to align the energy into three parallel main paths rather than a single main channel. These three parallel paths were designed to run side-by-side through his torso, serving as distinct, specialized channels to carry his different cultivated energies.

The first path was the Darkness and Death channel. He routed this pathway to hold the refined, heavy energy of his Nine Abyss Shadow Scripture and the stored power of his Dew of Ten Thousand Shadows. As he drew the dark energy into this channel, it felt like black ice grinding through his bones, leaving a cold, hollow trace behind. The dark energy resisted his control, but his Peak-Solid Soul pressed down with absolute authority, forcing the chaotic darkness to flow in a straight, orderly line. This dark path was designed to run along the left side of his spine, keeping the cold, destructive dark energy isolated from his other vital organs.

The second path was the Frost and Stillness channel. He routed this pathway along the right side of his spine to carry the freezing, absolute cold of his Frozen Heaven Sutra. As the frost Qi entered the new channel, it crystallized inside his flesh, turning his blood vessels into a cold mirror. Fang Lin utilized the principles of the Stillness Deflecting Mirror, maintaining a state of absolute quiet inside his chest to keep the freezing temperature from cracking his physical frame. This cold path was designed to channel the Glacial Drift and Stillness Deflecting Mirror energies without freezing his blood vessels.

The third path was the Life Core and Nether-Life channel. He routed this pathway directly down the center of his chest, linking it to his Nine Nether Phantom Body. This path was designed to circulate the vibrant, healing, and phasing energy of his physical frame and his main healing methods. The Nether Life Spirit Qi—the cool, vibrant emerald-green energy that served as his primary regenerative power—flowed quietly down his chest. The green energy acted like a deep-spring stream that brought life back to a dried riverbed, soothing the raw flesh and binding the fragments of his body together with absolute patience.

However, circulating three conflicting essences—Absolute Cold, Life energy, and Death energy—side-by-side was a dangerous task. Without a strong stabilizer, the freezing frost, the decaying darkness, and the vibrant life force would clash, causing his entire torso to explode from the conflicting forces.

To prevent this collapse, Fang Lin unleashed his Chaos Phantom Extreme Physique.

The Chaos Physique, a physical structure optimized for phantom transformation and energy assimilation, acted as a physical sheath. It wrapped around the three parallel channels like a tough, flexible iron scabbard, holding them in perfect alignment and absorbing any cross-fluctuations of energy. The Chaos energy acted like a flexible, silver-grey barrier, absorbing the clashing shockwaves of ice and darkness, preventing elemental contamination and keeping the three paths locked in their parallel tracks.

"The loops are forming," the Dark Flame Spirit warned, her flame flaring inside the Spatial Furnace as she watched the energy flow. "Prepare for the seal!"

Fang Lin guided the raw, swirling Qi to divide, entering the three newly forged channels simultaneously.

For a second, his body shivered as the freezing cold of the right path and the hot decay of the left path pulsed at the same time, but the central path of Nether Life Spirit Qi immediately balanced the temperature, while his Chaos Physique sheath held the structure rigid. The three streams of energy began to circulate in a smooth, continuous loop, moving faster and faster until they formed a perfect, stable cycle.

The isolation runes on the basalt walls hummed as a sudden, silent shockwave of refined energy erupted from Fang Lin's body.

His spiritual sea expanded, the dry, empty void filling with a dense, pure spiritual Qi that flowed effortlessly through his three-path layout. The bottleneck was shattered. His cultivation successfully consolidated, and he stepped into the Late Spirit Foundation Realm, again.

As his new foundation settled, the silent, path-forging resonance he had released rippled outward, slipping past the basalt walls of the Alliance branch and radiating into the wider world.

In the legacy Mansion Palace, far away in its own hidden space, the elderly mansion spirit sat on his ancient stone throne, surrounded by the quiet hum of legacy arrays. He slowly opened his eyes, a small, dry smile touching his wrinkled face. He could feel the faint, three-ringed spatial vibration traveling through the mansion's connection.

"He has carved his own path," the Mansion Spirit murmured, his voice echoing in the empty hall. He recalled the past heirs of the legacy, none of whom had possessed the boldness to shatter their own meridians to forge such a foundation. "A three-path foundation. Truly, he does not follow the footprints of others. The boy has forged his own path through fire."

In the lake outside Lotus Lake City, the old fisherman, Old Master Jiang, was sitting on his small wooden fishing boat, his bamboo rod resting quietly on the calm, grey water. The spring wind was warm, but the lake remained deep and still.

Suddenly, the surface of the lake, which had been as still as a sheet of glass, rippled. Three thin, concentric rings of water expanded outward from the center of the lake, matching the rhythm of Fang Lin's new meridian cycle. Old Master Jiang paused, his hand tightening on the bamboo rod as he felt the water veins of the county vibrate with a peculiar, dense weight. He realized that true stillness was not a rigid wall, but a yielding depth that could hold the currents of life and death without breaking.

He let out a soft, amused laugh, pulling his fishing line up.

"A three-path division," Old Master Jiang said, looking toward the high walls of the county capital. "The kid really understood the meaning of yielding and density. He forged his own path in this tiny, muddy pond."

Far beyond the Demon Immortal Continent, drifting in a dark, floating palace in a starry void, surrounded by ancient stone scrolls that recorded the histories of the galaxy, a mysterious figure in dark robes sat in deep meditation.

The law threads, the invisible lines of elemental energy that cultivators use to comprehend the laws of the universe, trembled briefly in his hands. He opened his eyes, their dark pupils reflecting the cold, distant light of the stars. He thought back to the ancient legends of the Chaos-Void Sovereign, recalling that a three-path foundation had not been seen in this sector of the galaxy for ten thousand years.

"A new thread has been spun," the unknown cultivator whispered, his voice carrying the cold, quiet tone of the void. "A three-path division. He is carving his own channels through the abyss?" Then he laughed softly.

Inside chamber seven of the third basement level, the silent shockwave receded, leaving the stone room quiet and still once more.

Fang Lin opened his eyes.

There were no dramatic explosions of light or booming sounds of thunder, but his dark eyes carried a deep, solid depth, and his breathing was perfectly calm. Fang Lin had spent three full days inside the basalt chamber, focused entirely on the reconstruction. He stood up from the straw mat, his body feeling lighter, stronger, and more flexible than ever before. The dull, scraping ache that had plagued his chest for six months was completely gone, replaced by a smooth warmth that flowed effortlessly through his torso.

"You did it," the Dark Flame Spirit remarked, her flame settling back into the center of the furnace with a sigh of relief. "Your meridians are ten times stronger than before, and they are perfectly aligned to handle your Chaos energy. I did not think a Spirit Foundation junior could actually carve such paths."

"It is just the foundation," Fang Lin replied in his thoughts, picking up his Silver Star-River Jade Card from the floor. "The true challenge has yet to begin."

He walked to the basalt door, turned the key, and stepped out into the cool stone corridor, ready to return to the warmth and noise of Willow Alley.

As he ascended the stone stairs and walked out of the white jade building of the Star-River Merchant Alliance, the bright spring sunlight hit his face. The mortal market was bustling with life, the cries of street vendors and the smell of roasting sesame cakes filling the air. He pocketed his Silver Jade Card, his steps light and even as he walked back toward the narrow streets of Willow Alley, feeling a deep, quiet peace in his heart.

When he reached the mouth of Willow Alley, Auntie Mei was standing at her vegetable stall, polishing a pile of fresh spring radishes with her apron. She looked up as his footsteps approached, and her eyes immediately widened in surprise.

"Lin Er!" Auntie Mei called out, her voice dropping its usual scolding tone. She stepped out from behind the counter, examining his face with motherly intensity. "Look at you! You spent three days in that big merchant hall, and yet you look... better. Your face isn't like a sheet of paper anymore, and your breathing is smooth. Did those greedy merchants actually have a decent doctor?"

"They had very warm rooms, Auntie Mei," Fang Lin replied with a gentle smile, his voice soft. "And the quiet was good for my recovery."

"Hmph, they probably charged you an arm and a leg for those warm rooms," Uncle Zhang's booming voice echoed from the smithy across the lane. The blacksmith leaned out of the open forge, his hammer resting on his shoulder as he grinned at Fang Lin. "But she is right, Lin Er. You look like you've got some steel back in your spine. Come by the forge later; I've got a pile of rusted files that need scraping, and those lazy orphans have been slacking since you left!"

"I will be there, Uncle Zhang," Fang Lin laughed softly.

He walked back to his small courtyard, locking the wooden gate behind him. As he stood under the green leaves of the willow tree, he felt a deep, genuine warmth for this alley. His meridians were forged, his strength was restored, and his home was peaceful.
