Chapter 298 - Greenvale Thieves Guild

PoV Gloria

I walked into the Inn without an issue and quickly slipped up the stairs of the trashy Inn without issue. They simply did not care who went upstairs, for all they knew, I was a whore looking for a coin from those who stayed here. Without a word, I went up the stairs and arrived at a door, and smiled as I quickly found the right room and inserted Holden's key.

The door opened simply, and I entered quietly, locking the door behind me as I began to search the place. Many things in the room were just clothes and various unattributed things. Holden Folden was clearly not a person of much substance, but I was looking for hidden things. I already knew his windfall from the previous day had not been bet on the tables today, and he did not seem to carry it on him when I quickly looted his body.

So that meant it was most likely in this Inn's room. Unless he got up in the middle of the night to hide it. Which I doubted because then why would he not just sleep there? it was much more likely he would want it to be easily reached. I quickly searched the small room. It was a simple room with a bed, a desk, a bathroom, and that was fucking it. This was not some luxury suite, so where did he hide it?!

I frowned and looked around, then I looked up, and my eyes widened. Rafters!

I quickly jumped, found a small brown bag, and pulled it off. It was a simple hiding spot, but when I opened it, I found a dozen gold coins and what was probably the rest of his known fortune. I looked around more and found nothing. I was surprised that he had no gear for me to loot.

I was hoping for some items!

Equipment seemed to be rare in this game, and I did not have anything more than my damn dagger, and I thanked the heavens for that. This game was brutal in certain ways. Too damn realistic in many ways! But the amount of gold I got from this commission might let me purchase one from an equipment shop in a major city!

I shook my head and quickly did one more last look around the room, hoping to find a stash, and sighed. I unlocked the door and departed, locking the door behind me. Walking out of the inn, I walked a couple of streets over before contemplating tossing the key. Now that I had looted the place, it did not make much sense to keep the key. I wondered what the Inn's owner would do about losing the key?

There were many things in this game that I did not have knowledge of. But I did know that if I didn't pay for my room, the Innkeeper would take it from whatever was left in the room. regardless if it would be more than what that room would cost for a night. Do you leave your things in the room? They considered it abandoned property. Which is why I paid for at least an extra day after I lost my old knife in a room. Thank Daddy that it had not been my current knife!

I shook my head and moved through the streets. I wanted to complete this quest before someone makes a fuss about Holden Folden; it is not like his body would just disappear, and I did not know the consequences. A dead body behind a gambling den was something that no one would be surprised about in this game, and it should not create a fuss. With his coin stolen, they would just think a person had robbed the man of his silver and gold.

He had been robbed as well.

But when you don't know much about the target, that means something can go wrong at the end. So I wove through the streets and watched various races moving around at night. It was still astonishing to see more than just humans. There were beast people and elves and even dwarves, gnomes, and so many other races in the street, even at night, although the night was still young. I got to him just a bit after dusk.

It was the Prime time for the Assassins guild, and I found the door in the back alleyway. There was no symbol, there was no sign for the Assassins Guild. It was simply a moldy-looking, haggard wooden door in a back alleyway that seemed to be falling apart. I quickly walked up to it and knocked in a special pattern that I learned when I was introduced.

Then I heard their knock, and continued the knock pattren which told them that to my knowledge I was not being followed. Then i heard a click and I knocked two more times before they opened the door and I looked at an unimpressed old woman that glared at me. "Ah, you, come in," The Doorkeeper rasped out slowly, her cloak covering half her face like a cliché. I wanted to say something every time, but I had been warned.

Do not ever fuck with a Doorkeeper.

It was a rule and a warning. So I kept my mouth shut, and I stepped into the assassins' guild and walked down the short hallway to another door, which I quickly pushed open, separating us from the outside. I was sure that the Doorkeepers area was trapped for those unwelcome, and I took heed of that.

Inside, you came to what most Animes thought of as what an Adventurers Guild would look like. A bored-looking receptionist sits back with their arms behind their head, looking down their nose to watch out for a hidden knife. A quest board with death postings and pictures of those that the Guild was paid to kill. There was a secret board I knew you had to go upstairs to see because it was too strong for people of my strength.

The board upstairs was invite-only, just like the whole guild was. I had been invited into the guild, but not yet upstairs for the veteran assassins. I wondered what it was like up there but did not care to get myself killed. I had not died yet, and I had no plans to.

I should soon figure out what happens when I die.

I shook my head and walked up to the bored-looking receptionist who was eyeing me, and I looked at her long, pointy ears. This was an Elf, and she looked at me with disdain. "Shina, got something to say?" Veronica asked in a light, charming, and bored voice. I could tell that she looked down on me, and I rolled my eyes, knowing she already knew what I was going to say.

"Yes, I killed Holden Folden and left the dice on him. I also believe-"

"That you did it subtly enough that the client would be happy. Congratulations, I already know," Veronica said with a smirk.

"Oh, wow," I said flatly, "I would not have guessed that you would know already," I replied, and she chuckled.

"Client is happy, the board is over there, and I will grab your reward now," Veronica said, getting up and walking away into the back. I stood there waiting for her to return, but I did look over to the board, and I wondered who I should look for next. There were monsters, beasts, and people alike up on the board. The assassins' guild was much like the adventurers' guild, except it dealt only with death, and I looked at the bounties there, thinking it would be more fun to kill a monster again.

Holden Folden might bring some nice coin, but the monsters were way more fun to me. Also, grabbing a random guy's dick felt weird. If it was daddy's then...

"Alright, here is your reward," Veronica said, interrupting my more inappropriate thoughts that I had thousands of times, and I turned to look down at it.

Veronica put down a pair of leather-looking shoes before me and a coin bag and glared at me. "Ten gold, five silver, and a pair of Assassin Shoes that stifle the sound of your steps. Congratulations, grunt. Now fuck off and choose another quest or get the fuck out. I have better things to be doing," Veronica finished and sat down without another word and glared at me.

It was like I had kicked the Elf's puppy or something and could only show her hate with that glare. But I did not care; my face lit up as I realized I got new equipment!

-----

Guild Quest Completed: Eliminate Holden Folden

You have assassinated the Gambler Holden Folden with skill, slipping a knife into his rapidly beating heart, as he believed you had relations with you. You killed him swiftly in a back alleyway behind a gambling house, with him happily pushing his trousers down.

You left the requested dice on his body, letting others know not to cheat at dice.

You have also done so subtly that no one will really think twice about his death, stealing his coin purse too.

Quest Reward: 10 gold, 5 silver, Reputation Increase, Assassin Shoes

-----

I grabbed the shoes and walked away from the reception, happy that I got an increase in reputation, but I wanted to look at these new shoes first.

----

Assassin Shoes (Uncommon)

Assassins infiltrate and moving silently assists greatly with that.

+10% to silent movement saves

-15% noise to silent movement

----

FUCK YEAH! Although I was not sure what silent movement saves were, the reduction in the noise I make made these even better. Sure, they were a bit of a crutch since I should be able to move silently without them, but this was a world of magic and enhanced senses!

I took a deep breath, grabbed the shoes, and took off my current ones. I would keep them as backups, and I quickly put on the assassin shoes, feeling the leather surround my feet. A perfect fit every time when the reward is for you and I grinned standing up on them.

I wiggled my toes and grinned before I decided what I wanted to do next. I finished my quest a day ahead of schedule, and I still had a bit of time before the party.

Actually, did I have time?

Shit.

I quickly got up and decided I would pick a new target when I logged in tomorrow. Tonight, it was time to go have some fun in the real world.

Just like Daddy ordered!
