Chapter 1 - Prologue

There was no way out, no escape.

As much as he tried to escape into each of the soul portals, they managed to keep him from advancing much further and finally, they had him cornered in a lower corner of the map.

He began to breathe heavily and his heart was beating at a speed that he felt that at any moment he could slip out of his body from physical exertion. He looked up at the huge wall of rocks and the jungle that surrounded him.

Simply, a show that made him get a smile.

"What the hell am I thinking?" He said to himself as he turned around to see his adversaries.

He quickly counted about five people, some with human-sized bows, swords decorated in various metals imbued with energy, and armor impossible to carry, but fictitious as it may seem, they wielded them without difficulty.

The situation did not seem to favor him and a thousand thoughts arose from his mind. Probably the best of them all, to pounce on that group of players and rip their hearts out.

"There is no escape ..." said one of them, while he smiled "It is impossible for your companions to reach this place, not from that distance"

"You never know, maybe while you're talking they're waiting for the moment to..."

He couldn't finish the sentence, when a notification came out from the top left view of him that made him perplexed: "Your team has just been eliminated."

He laughed in despair and he looked at his enemies again, this time, when they received the notification they did nothing but look at each other and celebrate.

With the speed that his character endowed him with, he cast a hardening ability and prepared to fight. The only thought that came to mind in his head: "This can't be happening", he kept repeating it to her while he felt chills rising throughout his body along with a deep and heavy breath.

The boy who had spoken to him recently, approached him and when he saw his face, he could distinguish him better.

He had a tall appearance, although he was thin, he wore an enormous white armor that, compared to what he possessed, impoverished the torn cloth clothing, a carved helmet with two huge horns and around it, like a crown, letters were seen in a unrecognizable language.

The boy took off his helmet and revealed short blonde hair, pure brown eyes, and a huge scar that ran all over his face.

He clenched his fist and from his hand, a huge spear began to form, equally as large as the boy and was imbued with a dark-looking aura.

He looked for an instant at the spear that had just appeared in his hands and then at the cornered boy, while he was grinning from ear to ear.

"No, it seems that the situation favors me," he said, shrinking his shoulders "Likewise, there was no chance for you, or for your team"

Instantly he adopt a combat position and carry the spear with force to launch it, the dark light that emanates began to flutter around and the atmosphere began to become heavy.

The stones and leaves that were on the ground began to be demolished by the pressure, the earth shook and the water moved wildly.

"Don't worry," the cornered boy said, smiling "When I return to this same place, I will find you and kill you in the same way that you have done with me"

The blond boy frowned and held the spear even tighter, while his other companions looked at him with some interest. He spent a while like that, gathering strength to throw it, until finally, he released his grip on the spear and made it disappear.

It didn't seem to make any apparent sense, but quickly, he motioned for one of his companions to come closer.

"He doesn't even deserve to be killed myself," he said as he left the scene, "do what you do best, assassin."

In front of him, a boy had stood still. He had simple clothes, but you could see the boldness in his appearance. Daggers encircled his waist and from his back, he carried a long sword that seemed terribly heavy for its size.

I wait for the blond boy to leave, to finally look at the recent prisoner. He inspected it and scratched his head.

"And what do you suppose you expect me to do?", He said looking at his other companions.

"You already know, assassin," said one of the voices.

"I don't think you're stupid enough not to realize it" said another of his companions.

He sighed slowly.

"I understand, I understand, just let me think how to end this" He put his hand on his chin as he thought, seemingly somewhat distracted.

"This could be my last chance to escape" thought the prisoner. The chances of getting out alive were slim to none, but it was worth trying to escape.

He looked at the boy and noticed that they probably already possessed all the abilities, which made it impossible for her to escape him, except that… he also possessed different abilities. Of course none of them served for a quick escape, but he could try to take care of one and use a spell that would allow him to get out alive.

He looked at his spell window ... everything was ready.

With agility, she summoned a red gauntlet, full of chains around it and with a strange symbol on the palm.

As soon as the object had been summoned, he pointed to the boy who had just appeared.

He showed a surprised face and then a scared one while his companions ran away casting immediate spells.

Time seemed like he was standing still and he was going to take advantage of the element of surprise. After pointing it out, the enemy appeared a few inches from him.

He immediately took a position where he allowed him to hit the killer. He aimed a charged punch to knock him out of the game in the blink of an eye.

"You have not pointed out any enemy"

The prisoner was surprised by the recent announcement and with his gaze glanced behind him.

There was the murderer, smiling and with a dagger about to stick it in the prisoner's temple.

Quickly, he stiffened his body once more and turned as fast as he could...

He couldn't avoid the attack.

Before he could notice it, he couldn't move, his sight soon turned red and he felt a tremendous pain from his throat. He slowly turned his gaze to his throat and saw a cleanly thrust dagger piercing from end to end.

He tried to scream in pain, but he could only spit blood while he felt a strong unbearable burning in that area. His heart was pounding and his head began to ache.

He was dead.

Dori an had awakened abruptly from his dream, clutching his neck firmly and gasping for air.

He looked around him.

He didn't seem to have changed a thing since he had fallen asleep.

The class continued regularly, some older gentlemen were annoying the young people, others were smoking and chatting among themselves.

He couldn't make out his partner at the desk next to him, so he sighed and looked out the window.

Long, modern buildings rose, vehicles occupied space both in the air and on the ground while traveling, various advertising brands moved to cover as many areas as they could, and thousands of people crowded the streets.

The most disturbing thing, for him, was the way in which everything is correlated ... crime and corruption made that landscape a depressing one, without hope and like a memory of permanent stay in that pit of rot that they called the city.

Finally, he put his thoughts aside, to snuggle back into his arms and sleep.

He felt a hard blow coming from his back.

"Are you allowed to sleep in class?" said a familiar voice that he recognized instantly.

Dorian turned his head, to look at the boy standing behind him. He was leaning against the window and looking at him with some disdain.

A boy of short stature, dark hair and with eyes that looked tired, denoted the dark circles that he had and most importantly, the razor that he carried in his hands.

"Are you going to start over, Alex?" said Dorian, lying down again.

"Mr. Alex, for you," Alex said pointing at him with his knife, "the boss just promoted me and apparently, he wants me to organize the next "BioCerin" robbery"

Dorian snorted.

"BioCerin? A new drug?"

"Obviously, bro," Alex responded enthusiastically "Well, it sucks from what I have been told, but it is worth it, considering that it has poor security"

"Is it okay for you to tell anyone"

"Man, of course not, but I know that you will not tell anyone" There was a brief pause and Alex frowned

"Certain?" He said something worried.

"Stop bothering me" Dorian said in a tired tone

Alex put his hand on Dorian's shoulder.

"You never do anything, right?" Alex said arrogantly "I'm always the one who tells you what to do or not, but you hardly ever accept anything, man."

"Who is going to want to join a gang of criminals rejected by society"

"Hey! At least I have something, a dream and I want to fulfill it" Alex sighed "Instead, you, you don't seem to have anything like that"

Dorian looked up to see Alex.

"I don't need anything like that"

"Don't say that, bro" Alex was startled "you make me depressed."

Dorian looked at him strangely and turned his gaze from him to the city.

"And what? How will they make such a hit?"

Alex smirked and raised his clenched fist in contentment.

"That's the attitude!" he said excitedly "Well, we will have to look for new weapons, the ones we have now are bad compared to the ones that are on the market these days, you know, gamma weapons and that. You just..."

Alex stopped talking, when he saw that Dorian was still looking at the window, as if he had just looked at something that took his attention completely.

"Are you listening to me, man?"

Dorian started in surprise and smirked at Alex.

"Sorry, I was a bit distracted"

Alex looked out the window, at first he didn't recognize what it was that had caught Dorian's attention, until he saw a huge advertisement slowly passing in front of his eyes.

"Luctari Online"

He looked back at Dorian, who was embarrassed and grinned from ear to ear.

"Man" He point at the ad with my thumb "don't tell me you're interested in that..."

Dorian opened his eyes and looked angry.

"No, not at all. I was just looking at what the..."

"No, no, no" Alex shook his head "You're not fooling me, Dorian"

Dorian looked at him strangely and Alex approached him.

"I know, look..." Alex whispered. Your birthday falls this week, right?

Dorian nodded expectantly.

"And..." Alex put an expectant intonation on the "y" "What do you think if I give you that virtual reality machine?"

"Impossible, I do not like video games"

Alex made a disgusted face.

"Do you have something you like?"

Dorian was silent, not knowing what to answer.

"Look, I don't know much about video games either, but if I have to see you sleeping and looking like an idiot every day, I swear I'll shoot myself" Alex paused for a short time "So I'll buy you the fucking game, of course"

"Even if you do that, surely it is very expensive"

"Not really, I've also tried to play once, but I don't get those things… you know" Alex looked at him seriously.

"So, What do you think? Do you want it or do you leave it?"

Dorian for a moment, he pondered.

Alex was right, he had never tried anything. Since elementary school, he had nothing to do in his house except watch videos or spend time watching television, bored, and it was because, he simply had never really dared to do anything.

Except on one occasion in his life, when he, for a moment he felt passion for something.

Still, his ego was hit when Alex told him the truth about himself and now he felt, really angry.

"Nobody wants your game" he said as he snuggled back.

Alex was silent, somewhat surprised, but he was finally leaning back against the window.

"All your life, you will not be able to postpone a path to choose from, Dorian"

For a moment everything had disappeared, the noise of the class, the voices chatting, the sound of the vehicles and the industrial din that reigned over the city.

Dorian only shook his head in concern.

He hearing this, could not do more than get angry with Alex, but also with himself.

"I hate having to choose one" he whispered.
