The sand grew a shimmering, verdant outline on Almer Spacewill. Then this outline separated from him and fell down like he was sleeping, which allowed him to comprehend that he was seeing the past.

It used the tiny snake, perhaps a form of energy, to bite down on Almer Spacewill's neck and turned to look at the mountain. Or it was better said that it was looking at the mountain and then bit down on Almer Spacewill.
After some time, he could see his own outline appear as he removed the replica from Almer Spacewill's finger.
