Chapter 767 - A Child

A child can wreck your life, tear it apart, and then put it back together to suit him or her.

And that is a universal fact.

Throughout the animal kingdom, the most basic instinct after survival is to multiply, to have children, blood ties, and heirs. If one were to leave descendants on this earth, one would truly be immortalized.

But after the instinct of multiplying, we return to the survival instinct once again, but this time, it is an instinct of the child's survival. What wouldn't a parent give for a child's sake? They sacrifice their own survival instinct, and for that, parenthood is unconditional love.

Take away that love, and you will create monsters, people without love, people with nothing in the world.

Serana understood that very clearly. After all, that love was taken away from her, and she is now a monster.

Her father is the worst of all fathers; it is impossible to compete with him in terms of being a bad parent. A man who sacrifices his wife and daughter to a Daedric Prince whose most known title is the "King of R@pe" is not just an unworthy father; he is the Daedric Prince of Shitty Parenting.

After being awakened by Jon, Serana had more time to look into the past, present, and future. When she was in Castle Volkihar and was hosting Gluttony, she had a lot of time to contemplate in Coldharbour. When Jon kidnapped her and cured her addiction to the blood parasite, she agreed to follow him and expand her horizons. Jon then showed her a new kind of life, and she was excited about it for a time, how he made her the fake Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, and how he controlled everything from behind the scenes.

But Serana reached a level where she wasn't content with her life. After all, she needed love, and no matter how many times people got close to her or promised her flowery things, she felt their words were empty, as she was desperate for something real.

For that, she kept looking and looking. She founded her own Vampire cell from the target that she should have killed for Astrid, the former leader of the Dark Brotherhood.

She tried to form ties with her own cell of Vampires, but no matter how indebted they were to her for granting them eternal life, they were not family. Also, the fact that Serana started that little family and profited from the Skooma trade made it more like a gang rather than a family.

As she was promised to be part of the family by Jon, and he went on killing Dragons and ignoring her, Serana decided to take matters into her own hands. During that time, she mated with Jon in Dragonbridge, and she hatched a plan and cultivated it in her womb.

Taking Jon's seed, which was supposed to be infertile due to the senseless amount of Magicka within it, Serana drained the seed within her of its vitality, but to not risk it, she had some of Jon's blood in her system when she asked him seductively to let her drink his blood.

Usually, Jon's blood is too powerful for ordinary vampires, but once she refined it inside her own body, she managed to sever the connection between Jon and his blood before refining it into a blood gem, something that contained all the magic and vitality of the blood in one small chunk, and rather than feeding on it, she used it to nurture her own womb and what was inside it.

Theoretically, none of this would be possible. However, Serana was a Daughter of Coldharbour, an original vampire, and she had knowledge of things modern vampires do not have.

Vampires are seen as undead, and they are indeed so, but not quite. Physically, vampires are still alive, unlike liches, draugr, and zombies. The process of becoming a vampire involves diseases: Sanguinare Vampiris or Porphyric Hemophilia. Diseases do not affect the dead, but rather target the living, and since these diseases are magical in nature, their symptoms are quite magical as well.

Aside from the gradual stages of vampirism, such as sun sensitivity and blood hunger, these symptoms are not the main trigger of vampirism. The process that triggers that, however, is the soul siphoning.

This soul siphoning happens to newly created vampires as the essence of their life gets drained to Oblivion and becomes replaced by a new essence of death; this essence comes from a Daedric origin of rather lesser Daedra that are closely associated with undeath.

While these Lesser Daedra are what enable necromancers to harness a normal undead creature, the ones in a vampire are completely under the control of that vampire as long as he or she consumes blood. The reason for that is that while these lesser Daedra form zombies by inhabiting dead bodies on their own and seek out flesh to consume, drinking blood compensates for eating flesh when they inhabit a living body and make it a vampire.

Evidence for that is that some cures of vampirism require a Black Soul Gem, containing the soul of a human. Now, anyone who knows about Necromancy will tell you that containing a human soul within a soul gem is not factually correct, since the soul travels to the Soul Cairn and can be seen wandering the desolate wastes of that realm. In other words, what fills the Black Soul Gem is the life essence of a human, and it is what is used to push away the Lesser Daedra from the human soul to make the vampire human again.

So, to conclude this, a vampire possesses a living constitution, though filled with undead essence that makes it less prone to be life-nurturing or childbearing. However, with the right meddling of a vampirism expert, nothing is impossible.

The process was unnatural and very prone to error, but as Serana felt that she was going to fail, she sought out someone who was more expert on the matter, and thus she met the White Woman, the woman who broke apart the world Serana knew and put it back together again, offering Serana a new path of vampirism, Noxiphilic Sanguivoria.

In other words, while none of this was natural, the fact of the matter was that Serana is now bearing the child of the Last Dragonborn, Jon Dare.

By the time he walked into his home, the people who were already inside stood apart from the way, some to the left, some to the right.

"Sir, they are waiting for you in the study," spoke Sev, Jon's secretary, as soon as he walked into the main hall.

Everyone had something to say about the matter; Jon's awaited child was supposed to be with his legal wife, but it wasn't unexpected for it to be with one of the side flings he had. However, for one of those side flings to be a vampire was something most people did not expect.

Yet that wasn't what startled the group of relatives gathered in the hall; it was Jon's appearance, who walked in with golden black horns growing atop his head like a crown with many scales around his face, neck, and chin.

This appearance was alien to the world, but knowing the level Jon has achieved, it wasn't anything unexpected from Winterhold's demigod.

But just as he reached the room where he meets important guests, three individuals were standing right outside: his father, Jonrad; his mother, Hilda; and his wife, Alina.

No words were exchanged, but it was obvious that Alina wasn't willing to look at him right now.

Their relationship was one of a kind, as when Jon was playing around with women more than he should, she tolerated his unfaithful behavior due to his senseless stamina and endless libido. She even joined in on the action, and his girlfriends became her girlfriends. In a way, as they started to share lovers, Jon started to stop going to see women other than the ones he was already in a relationship with.

But the emergence of Serana was something unexpected to Alina, let alone her pregnancy, which was something she and Jon had worked tirelessly for without success. Now that his son was going to be born to that woman, it was safe to say that Alina wasn't able to accept it.

As for Jonrad:

"Son, we have your back. Just be mindful of where you aim it from now on."

His grin at the end of his sentence broke the gloomy atmosphere, but Hilda immediately punched his side before turning to Jon.

"Listen. These vampire women, I don't feel good about them, especially the white-haired bitch. Don't let them extort you," she spoke.

"Too late for that," Jon replied and opened the door to the room, but before walking inside, he held Alina by her arm and dragged her in with them before closing the door.

Alina was taken by surprise, but as Jon dragged her that way, she found herself in a situation she didn't want to face. She was standing beside Jon, who was facing four women in that room: the White Woman, who stood by the window with a calm smile; Serana Volkihar, who sat on a large chair facing another empty one; Vittoria Vici, who seemed to have returned with the previous two; and finally the familiar face of Idgord the Younger, daughter of Jarl Idgord Ravencrone.

While Vittoria was displeased at Jon, his appearance filled her with awe, just as it did with Idgord the Younger, who was very excited to be a guest of the Dragonborn.

As for Serana, she seemed confident so far, but the moment she saw Jon looking at her with a strong gaze, she was completely unnerved and wanted to stand up, if not for the White Woman holding her shoulder.

What this group of people had to discuss was a topic that would affect the shape of the future of House Dare.
