Three months ago, I was human.
Now I’m a slime hiding in Thornhaven—the most powerful living city in the world—pretending to belong while my own body fights to fall apart.
I came here as a refugee looking for safety. What I found instead was a city that sees everything, a system built from living magic, and rules designed to expose anything that doesn’t belong.
Including me.
Thornhaven’s Core Tree, the ancient source of its power, is dying from something unnatural. A corruption no healer can understand. Every attempt I make to fix it pushes my own form closer to collapse, like my existence itself is the price.

And the one behind it is not a monster in the shadows.
He is a noble the city trusts.
He believes Thornhaven is broken.
And he is fixing it by rewriting what people are allowed to be.
I didn’t come here to be a hero.
I came here to survive.
But now I’m the only thing standing between Thornhaven and a future where everyone becomes something less than human.
The only problem is, saving the city might destroy what’s left of me first.
