What begins as an assignment slowly unravels into something Javier cannot name and cannot escape — because by the time he notices the signs, the bond is already deeper than it should be, her claim on his cultivation path is already written, and Draecarys, in her humanoid form and with her too-calm smile, has made it quietly, terrifyingly clear.
