Chapter 9 - “The Heroic Plan Begins at the Conformatorium”

Ahh finally I arrived, damn it was not easy to find the way. I had to ask passersby where the Conformatorium prison was, especially since I had very little time left before Luz and Eda arrived.

Okay now phase one of the plan. I need to get myself arrested and thrown into a cell, but not in a random way. I need to do it in a heroic way.

At first I planned to just get caught, but honestly that did not seem good enough. After all I want to leave a strong impression on Luz and Eda.

So what better than getting arrested while trying to free a poor prisoner locked up for no real reason. Mix that with the fact that I love magic and that I help them during their escape and I will already give them a very strong impression of me. An intrepid person ready to help others.

Eheh yeah I chuckled while rubbing my chin like I had a beard. Yes this is a shock plan.

Okay now I need to find a way to enter the prison and make it look like I came to free the prisoner.

Looking ahead I saw some kind of miniature and morbid castle. There was a huge bridge connecting to the Conformatorium. The sky seemed to turn gray when looking near this place.

Ah I was starting to sweat cold. No denying it this place is seriously intimidating. I swallowed hard just imagining myself going inside.

Come on stop being a coward.

I slapped my cheeks then took one of my cards.

Okay I had drawn the invisibility glyph that Luz uses.

Eheh turns out trying to copy it in real life while watching the show at the orphanage was actually useful.

I placed it on myself then tapped it.

At that moment my presence disappeared. I could no longer be seen.

Wow incredible I feel completely transparent. Magic is seriously too cool.

But this is not the time to admire it I have a mission to complete.

The cold wind hit me as soon as I stepped onto the bridge leading to the Conformatorium. My footsteps echoed on the stone as if the building itself was listening.

Okay calm down I am invisible nobody can see me everything is fine. At least normally.

The bridge creaked under my weight. The further I walked the heavier the air became almost suffocating.

The Conformatorium was even more sinister up close. The gray walls seemed to absorb light and the small windows looked like closed eyes waiting to open.

I swallowed hard.

Okay phase two enter find a situation be heroic do not die simple. At least in theory.

I reached the large metal door. Two guards stood on each side. They looked about as friendly as a curse fired at point blank range.

I slipped behind them silently. My heart was beating so hard I was afraid they could hear it even through my invisibility.

Inside I already heard noises chains muffled screams and fast footsteps.

Perfect there was already action.

I followed the main corridor trying not to panic. The walls were covered in strange symbols and rules carved into stone. Do not think differently do not deviate do not resist.

Great atmosphere.

Then I saw it. A cell door open. And a prisoner being dragged by two guards.

My brain immediately saw an opportunity.

Okay this is it. My chance.

I approached quietly. The guards were talking to each other completely focused on their victim.

I took a deep breath.

Now or never.

I removed the invisibility glyph from my hand in a quick motion.

Okay let us do this properly.

I jumped forward.

HEY YOU TWO

Silence.

The guards instantly turned around.

Bad idea.

I came to free this prisoner I shouted with all the courage I could fake.

Okay I may have shouted too loud.

One guard blinked. The other narrowed his eyes.

Is there someone here one of them asked. Oh right I am still invisible I deactivate the glyph.

I was no longer invisible. The glyph had disappeared.

Uh yes I said slowly raising my hands. Surprise.

The guards immediately reacted. Shocked for a second then anger.

They rushed at me.

Plan B PLAN B I screamed internally.

I quickly stepped back dodging a clumsy strike. The prisoner looked at me with an expression between confusion and hope.

Yes yes I will help you too after I said without thinking.

I ran instinctively.

Alarms started ringing.

Perfect.

Even more chaos than planned.

I smiled despite myself.

Okay maybe my plan was actually getting better than expected.

Deep in the corridor a voice echoed.

Who dares disturb the Conformatorium

I froze.

Oh.

I took a deep breath.

Perfect.

The heroic phase had officially begun.

Wardens of the Conformatorium appeared on the walkways scanning the area.

Who is that surrender immediately

I took a deep breath then with a dramatic tone raised my arms as if stepping onto a stage.

I CAME TO FREE THE INNOCENT.
