Chapter 32 - The Great Redaction

The transition from the Ink-Flow to the base of the Great Redaction felt like walking through a physical wall of silence. The mountains of fossilized scrolls loomed above them, thousands of feet of petrified parchment etched with the "deleted" history of Aetherion.

[ Location: The Great Redaction (Deep Veil) ]

[ Environmental Alert: Historical Density — EXTREME ]

[ System Status: Unrecorded Narrative Flux ]

Kael stood at the foot of a scroll that was easily the size of a skyscraper. The ink upon it wasn't static; it writhed like thousands of tiny, black insects, attempting to reform into the stories they once belonged to.

"The air here... it's heavy," Lira Voss whispered, her fingers tracing the edge of a jagged piece of code-rock. Her Soul Index flickered at a precarious 2, the negative pressure of the Deep Veil threatening to smudge her out of existence entirely.

"It's not the air, Lira. It's the weight of what could have been," Kael replied. His obsidian eyes were wide, absorbing the fractured data-streams that leaked from the scrolls.

The Librarian of the Void

A sudden, sharp rasping sound echoed from the crevices of the petrified scrolls. Out of the darkness crawled a creature that looked like a man stitched together from different scripts—one arm was glowing with Ember light, while the other was a translucent Hollow gray.

[ Entity Identified: The Redactor (Fragment) ]

[ Rank: Unknown ]

[ Condition: Narrative Insanity ]

"New characters," the Redactor hissed, its voice shifting between a dozen different pitches. "The Architect hasn't sent fresh ink down here in centuries. Why has the Zero come to the graveyard?"

Kael stepped forward, his Stage 3: Narrative Breaker evolution pulsing at 79%. "I'm looking for the Primal Script," Kael stated, his voice a flat vibration that made the Redactor flinch. "I want to know why I was manufactured with no Index."

The Redactor let out a sound like parchment tearing. "Manufactured? You think you were a project? You were a correction. You were the 'Delete Key' that grew a heartbeat."

The Ambush of Truth

Before the Redactor could continue, the sky of the Deep Veil turned a violent, bruised gold. The Abyss Gears groaned overhead, and a pillar of light—far more refined than Rex Halvard's—descended toward the Great Redaction.

[ System Alert: High Council Intervention ]

[ Target: The Anomaly (Kael Veyron) ]

[ Protocol: Hard Format ]

"They're bypassing the Architect," Seren Vale warned, her amethyst aura flaring as she drew her broken rapier. "Kael, the High Council is reaching directly into the recycle bin!"

Kael didn't look at the sky. He looked at the base of the Great Redaction, where a hidden seal—glowing with the same violet embers as his own eyes—was beginning to emerge from the ink-slurry.

"They're too late," Kael whispered.

[ Unique Ability: Script Hijack (Active) ]

[ Action: Forcibly Opening the 'Great Redaction' ]

[ Cost: 85,000 Devoured Index Points ]

Kael slammed his hand into the petrified scroll. The violet embers in his chest exploded into a blinding black flare. The mountain of scrolls didn't just open; it unraveled.

The First Revelation

As the scrolls unspooled, Kael saw his own face reflected in the ink. Not as a boy in a tank, but as a Paradox Entity from a timeline that had been erased ten thousand cycles ago.

[ Evolution Progress: 82% — Stage 3: 'Narrative Breaker' ]

[ Memory Fragment Unlocked: The Architect's Fear ]

"I wasn't created by the System," Kael realized, his voice echoing with the resonance of the Void. "I am the System's original owner."

Soul Index Status Update:

Kael Veyron: Hollow (Index 0) – Evolution Stage 3 (82%).

Seren Vale: Amethyst Variable (Index 1,200) – Status: Combat Ready.

Lira Voss: Index 2 – Status: Narrative Instability.

New Threat: High Council Erasure Squad (Inbound).

Does Kael use the newly unraveled scrolls to rewrite the High Council's Erasure Squad out of existence, or does he absorb the "Memory of the Original Owner" to complete his Stage 3 evolution immediately?
