Chapter 15 - Sound of a Broken Script

The golden light of Rex Halvard's descent was so intense it felt physical, a crushing pressure that turned the stagnant air of the Archive into a scorching furnace.

Kael stood in the center of the Archive, his thin frame silhouetted against the swirling violet data-miasma. He didn't flinch as the floor plates groaned under the Sovereign's weight. Beside him, Lira was a trembling shadow, her Index of 12 now a mere gray smudge in the blinding radiance.

"You should have stayed in the dirt, rat," Rex roared, his claymore trailing sparks of artificial starlight as he leveled it at Kael's chest. "You think stealing a fragment of credit makes you a player? You're a bug in the code. And I am the delete key."

The Paradox of Worth

Rex lunged. To a normal observer, the move was a golden blur, a Tier-Sovereign strike designed to erase a target's past, present, and future.

But to Kael, the world slowed into a series of flickering frames. The Seed of a Failed Protagonist in his chest wasn't just integration data anymore; it was an organ of perception. He saw the golden aura not as power, but as a rigid, predictable script.

Kael stepped to the left—not a frantic dive, but a calculated displacement of exactly three inches. The golden blade hissed past his ear, the heat singing his hair, but the "Target Lock" of the System failed to trigger.

"How?" Rex hissed, his eyes widening. "My Index is 72,000! You shouldn't be able to breathe in my presence, let alone move!".

"You're fighting the wrong war, Rex," Kael said, his voice a flat, terrifying vibration. "You're trying to hit a boy with 0 Index using a weapon that only recognizes 'Importance.' To your sword, I'm just more air."

The Vault of Truth

As Rex turned for a wider arc, Kael slammed his hand against the cracked pillar of PROJECT ZERO.

"Lira! The Archive isn't just data—it's the System's memory!" Kael shouted over the roar of the collapsing ceiling. "If the Archive dies, the Sector's logic dies with it!"

Kael didn't wait for a reply. He reached into the hologram of the man in the lab coat—the architect of his own hollow existence—and pulled. He wasn't grabbing a physical object; he was grabbing the Source Code of his own creation.

The violet embers in Kael's eyes exploded into a blinding flare.

[ New Skill Unlocked: Narrative Static ]

Rex roared and swung his claymore in a horizontal cleave meant to level the entire room. But as the blade approached Kael, the gold light hit a wall of gray, flickering static. The metal of the Sovereign's blade started to pixelate, turning into dull cubes of leaden data.

"What have you done?" Rex screamed, his golden armor beginning to flake away like rusted paint.

"I'm not a thief anymore, Rex," Kael said, his voice echoing with the dual tones of his present self and the "Failed Protagonist" within. "I'm the sound of the script breaking."

The Final Deletion

High above, the Astra Dawn's sirens reached a crescendo. The Protocol: Total Deletion had been finalized. The walls of the Archive began to dissolve into a white, featureless void.

Kael grabbed Lira's hand.

"Rex!" Kael called out into the white-out. "You wanted to be the hero of this story. But look at the logs. In this chapter... you aren't the one who survives."

With a final pulse of Narrative Static, Kael vanished into the white abyss just as the Archive imploded, leaving Rex Halvard standing in the wreckage of a history that no longer existed.
