Chapter 45: The Witch Knows All.
~~~ [START]
"You're dying?" Alice asked with a stony face.
Troy leaned back in his seat, "No, more like changing."
Alice stared at him for a moment.
"I have blood, you know. I don't have venom. I have soft skin."
Alice kept her questioning glare.
"So, if I'm bitten, I can be turned."
"That doesn't make sense," Alice said, voice a whisper. "If you're, then why do you—"
Her eyes suddenly halted on his left arm; the veins she was hearing a moment ago stopped. It was as though no blood had moved past them at all. Then, as swiftly as they paused, the blood flowed back. And as if his actions were a trigger, Alice finally noted the unevenness of his skin, the definition of his muscles; Troy was different.
"What happened?" Alice finally asked the right question.
Troy breathed, paused, then shook his head. "Dracula."
Alice's eyes widened; it couldn't be true.
"I was fully grown at seven, living in the streets, nowhere to go," Troy continued, eyes turned to the fridge, yet even then, it was as though he was looking past it, as if for those moments, his words were accompanied by memories. "He appeared one day in the form of bats. Grabbed and tossed me in the sewerage, saying something along the lines of me being his kid—"
Alice suddenly moved a hand to his arm; she was now standing a hair's breadth away from him.
"Calm down," Alice said, hands tightening, with his arm unknowingly digging deeper into the kitchen's counter.
Troy didn't even turn to her; he just softened his strength and continued, "He told me my name was Adrain. told me how I was born. said—"
Alice put a hand on his cheek; Troy's eyes had turned red now.
"What?" Troy asked, blinking in confusion as they returned to normal.
Concern flooded her; maybe she shouldn't have asked him in the first place. "You're getting angry."
"Huh? No, I'm good," Troy's actions said the opposite. "Back to what I was saying, now the crazy thing is that I remembered."
Troy turned back to the fridge he was looking at. But even then, his eyes drifted past it. "Like… I saw myself in my mother's womb and stuff, slowly eating her alive, it was…"
"I'm sorry—"
"No, you don't get it," Alice's eyes narrowed when he said it. "It was beautiful."
And a sudden click brought Alice all the clarity she needed. From his single statement, she finally understood the meaning behind his art.
Troy finally realised what he said, so he blinked, clearing his throat, "I'm sorry, I'm just—"
Alice moved behind him, covering his figure with a hug from the back, and the coldness of her skin brought a strange comfort to him.
"His body was made of bats, the whole time, so I didn't even get to see his face," Troy continued, eyes still shut. "He said he was killed thousands of years ago, saying how blood makes our kind weaker."
"Weaker?" Alice asked, clearly conflicted.
"No, not you. I mean us, you know, his kind, his descendants or something," Troy didn't even open his eyes when he corrected. "The pale-skinned."
"Then how is he your father?"
Troy finally opened his eyes at her question, "What?"
"I mean, you said he died, right?"
Troy hesitated, as if the words he was about to say next would bring up a certain type of emotion.
"Like Zeus." Troy's words made no sense, but to Alice, who had seen all she could with her visions, it was as clear as day. "By force and stuff."
"But he didn't have a body?"
"He did," Troy corrected, "I just didn't see it."
Silence overtook them, but it didn't last.
"One day, after the talk, training, and teaching, he finally showed his face." This time, Troy's words were colder. Then he chuckled, "He looked just like me, paler, but he was literally me."
Alice turned her eyes to him, the scent of Troy's hair proving too mesmerising.
"And you wanna know what he did next?" Troy asked the obvious.
"He changed you," Alice whispered.
Troy blinked, "He bit me."
Alice didn't even react to the words; she just kept lying on his shoulder.
"'Blood makes us weaker,' he said," Troy continued, this time chuckling. "He said he loved me."
Alice had so many questions, but she didn't want to interrupt.
"And from that day, I—" For the first time since speaking, Troy stumbled on his words. "I'm slowly turning into him."
Troy raised a finger, and the ground trembled, "Then he vanished. And one day, I started resembling him so much that Aro thought I was him."
Alice flinched at the name.
"I saw the fear in his eyes that day," Troy laughed, "but by then I was 10, so they used me. You know, how would I have known I was only a weapon to them?"
Alice suddenly kissed Troy behind the neck; the lad was always weak to temptation, so he turned on his seat, as she climbed atop him, laying her lips on his.
God knew Troy wanted it, but Alice knew better. Because what good was God's power, in the eyes of a witch?
A being capable of using evil to attain and give out opposition.
{ELSEWHERE}
Atop the edgy mountain cliff, Edward towered over Bella, who was standing too close to his face.
"I'm not afraid of you," Bella said, hands slightly trembling, yet even then, she moved her hand to his cheek, turned it, pulled closer, inches from a kiss.
And when their lips collided, the agonising thirst he felt intensified, growing into its cousin, who was no better.
This was Edward's first kiss, so he leaned forward, hand moving to Bella's figure, then toward the shoulders of her back.
Bella pulled back, smiling at Edward, who still had his eyes shut, trying his hardest to remember the feeling he had experienced seconds ago.
Bella nearly spoke, but swiftly, Edward pulled closer, this time initiating the attack.
Not knowing that everything was soon to change, for the worse.
