Chapter 48 - A game I had to finish

Jay's POV

It was already midnight.

Keifer slept beside me, his arms wrapped tightly around me like even in his dreams he was afraid of losing someone again. His grip softened as I slowly slipped away, careful not to wake him.

He shifted slightly.

My heart clenched.

I leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.

"I love you," I whispered. "I have to do this… for you. For Papa. For us."

For everything that was taken.

Keifer doesn't talk about his past much.

But one night… he broke.

Not fully.

Just enough.

He told me he didn't lose his mother in a fire.

He saw her die.

He was just a kid, standing in the doorway, watching his parents argue. Loud. Violent. Endless.

Then—

A crash.

A vase.

Thrown in anger.

It hit her.

Silence followed.

The kind that doesn't go away.

She dropped to the floor… and never got back up.

And Kaizer?

He didn't stay.

Didn't help.

Didn't even look back at his son.

He just… walked out.

Left Keifer there—

Alone with her body.

Since that day—

Keifer didn't just hate his father.

He despised him.

I forced the memory away and stood, turning from the bed before it broke me too.

Tonight changes everything.

I changed into my black bodysuit, armor locking into place, then pulled on my leather jacket—the Night Shadows symbol pressing against my chest.

When I reached the base, they were already there.

Drake. Mia. Brooke. Andrew.

Waiting.

Mia spoke first.

"Oliver's not alone."

I already knew.

"Kaizer."

Silence.

Andrew's jaw tightened. "The same man who killed his own wife."

"Keifer's father," Mia added softly.

I didn't say anything.

Because all I could see—

Was Keifer as a child.

Standing there.

Watching it happen.

The rain hadn't stopped since the night they took my father.

Maybe the sky was mourning with me.

I pulled my jacket tighter.

My gang.

My family.

All that's left.

And now the man Keifer hates most—

Is standing beside the man I need to kill.

"Let's finish this."

Andrew's POV

I checked the clips in my rifle. Every click calmed me a little, just like my brother used to say — control your breathing, then you control the fight.

But there's no calm left now. Oliver killed my brother. I still hear the sound of his voice. Tonight, he'll hear mine instead.

Jay stood in front of us, eyes cold but steady. "No one walks away," she said.

We all nodded in silence, the unspoken promise hanging heavy in the air.

Mia's POV

I wasn't born for this life — I was made for it. When the men who worked for Oliver burned down my uncle's clinic because he refused to pay protection, Jay took me in. She taught me to fight with purpose.

Inside the car, I stared at the city lights blurring through the rain. "He's expecting us," I murmured. Drake smirked in the back seat, reloading his revolver. "Good," he said. "Let him."

Drake'sPOV

There's no such thing as mercy when it comes to family. Oliver took mine — my sister, my little brother. Burned them alive to send a message. Well, I've got one to send back.

I can still smell the fire when I close my eyes there screams . That's why I like explosions. Fair trade.

When Jay gives the signal, I'll light this whole estate up. Let the devil know we're coming.

Brooke's POV

I tightened the gloves around my hands and stare at the mansion gates ahead.

Six siblings. Two parents. Gone. All that remains of me is the fighter Jay saved from suicide when everything burned.

But tonight—tonight I fight for them. For every scream I couldn't stop.

The radio crackled. Jay's voice. "Night Shadows—move."

The gates shattered.

Jay's POV

Gunfire erupted.

Chaos.

We moved like we always do—like people who have nothing left to lose.

Andrew—precise.

Mia—silent and deadly.

Brooke—pure force.

Drake—fire and destruction.

And then—

That sound.

A motorcycle.

Kaizer.

He rode through the battlefield like it didn't touch him.

Like nothing ever does.

Like the past meant nothing.

But I knew better.

Because somewhere out there—

There's a boy who still remembers everything he did.

We pushed inside.

Room after room.

Until—

The grand hall.

Oliver stood there.

And beside him—

Kaizer.

For a moment, I didn't see a legend.

I saw a man who walked away from his son after killing the one person he loved most.

He looked at me.

Calm. Empty.

"So," he said, "you're the one."

My grip tightened on my gun.

"You left him," I said coldly. "After you killed her."

No denial.

No anger.

Nothing.

That was worse.

"Jasper Jean Mariano…" Oliver stammered.

I raised my gun.

"And this is family."

A shot rang out—

Kaizer's.

The bullet hit beside Oliver's head.

"He doesn't die yet," he said.

I stepped closer, voice sharp.

"You don't get to decide anything."

For the first time—

His eyes shifted slightly.

"Does he still look at people like they'll leave?" Kaizer asked quietly.

My chest tightened.

I didn't answer.

Because he doesn't get to ask about Keifer.

Not after what he did.

I grabbed Oliver, slamming him into the chair.

"Tie him."

The ropes tightened.

When I turned back—

Kaizer was already walking away.

Just like before.

"Running again?" I called.

He stopped.

For a second.

"I never ran," he said.

"You left your son with a corpse!" I snapped.

Silence.

Heavy.

Then—

"He saw what I am," Kaizer said flatly. "Better he hates me than becomes me."

The words hit harder than I expected.

But it didn't change anything.

He stepped outside, rain pouring over him as he got on his bike.

No apology.

No regret.

Just the roar of the engine—

And then he was gone.

Mia's POV

Silence filled the hall.

But it felt different now.

Heavier.

Because this wasn't just revenge anymore.

This was history.

Blood.

Truth.

Jay's POV

Drake and Andrew dragged Oliver into the van.

"It's over," I said.

Because if Keifer finds out the wrong way… yeahhhh that's not gonna end well.

AND THE FIGHT SCENE???

Who was your favourite?? Drake being chaotic as always 💥 or Mia being smooth with it… or Brooke going full rage mode 👀
