Chapter 3 - Mana

It's been a few days since the day of being born into this new world, and Arthur had assured himself of being a boy... Thankfully.

'Arthur Castagir, doesn't really sound like a main character's name, probably a grade A character.'

Arthur writhed in thought at the name he was given. He sounded like a knight's name, and his twin sister apparently was named closely to that.

She was Alistair Castagir.

At first, Arthur thought she would hold some identity to him, being transmigrated or so he thought.

He even tested her intelligence by seeing her reactions to certain abnormal things he would perform in front of her. Though being a baby limited what he could do to test, still he tried his best.

But after seeing the other baby only interested in the basic amenities, which was suckling on mother's breast milk and pooping her supposed diapers, he quickly realized she was a normal baby.

Arthur, on the other hand, had found it hard to do the basic amenities like his sister could — doing things like shitting himself.

And certainly, he hated falling asleep almost every time with no control of when or how long he slept. This, as a former author, felt all wrong and despite trying to fight it, his human nature won regardless.

During his time awake, he realized how back this world was in technological advancement.

There were apparently no cars, phones, or any electrical appliances. This world had no technological advancements — it seemed like the times of knights or emperors in the old age, 'whereas the greatest invention they have is a stainless spoon.'

He found this to be a great disadvantage as he had no idea how life at this time was meant to be lived.

But this rebirth came with its perks.

His parents seemed to be people of high places, as they were respected by many guards and slaves who yearned for their every command. It was basically like living with a royal family. This made growing up here feel like it would be worth it.

He had other siblings, but not any he knew all that well, as they didn't come visit much, or were not allowed to do so for some reason he had no idea of.

So his routine for a few months was nothing more than the usual baby amenities, which Arthur cursed with all his being, praying for quick growth as he grew more impatient to investigate what type of world he had been reborn into.

The mystery of it seemed to be ripping him apart.

But his wishes were never answered, and finally, after a long wait, five years had passed and it was finally the day the twins would be taken outside their rooms to see the outside world — if that was the right word to be used.

Throughout their time growing, Arthur had noticed a few disturbing things he did not fail to analyze. One of them was the fact that he and his sister Alistair had been restricted to their room for the first five years of their lives.

It wasn't like their shared room was small — if anything, it was large, about five thousand feet, and having all the space and attention from guards and their mother. There was also a small library in the room they could use.

But access to the outside world was prohibited by their mother for some reason.

'Father never came to see us since the day we were born. Must be cultural for these people,' that was Arthur's thought towards the matter.

So with the time he had, he mainly spent it reading through books that were available in the small library they possessed, and this was when he learnt about his family.

'There are six Lord Families, and then the King that rules everything. The Castagir family rules over a part of the south and north of the Continent,' young Arthur read, learning the names and history of all the other Lords, including the King.

He even learnt about his own family bloodline down to his father, who was currently the strongest Castagir to ever be recorded in history.

Arthur yawned after digesting that information; nothing bored him more than classic history.

Then he searched through a few more books, and finally found more about the world and the Castagir family.

The moment Arthur had opened this particular book, he had gotten glued to its pages. 'A world where men cultivate mana and master beast taming.' This was incredible.

He learnt humans awakened their beast taming talent at five, and this was when they would first show their talents towards beast taming by unlocking their first beast. He learnt more about the concept of how it worked — the ability of one's beast also shared to the person that owned it.

Everything was all so intriguing.

And this had also brought him to the reason why the Castagirs and the other Lords kept their children locked up in houses till they were five years of age.

"It's because beneath the rooms there are strange cores of monsters that give off mana into the room, to make our mana much stronger and better than the normal human."

Knowing this, Arthur felt more reassured staying in the room — at least it was for his own good, he thought.

Apart from that, other information regarding it seemed to be just copy and paste of the last.

"Pure boredom."

Arthur exhaled.

But finally, ten years had passed, and their mother, Silia Castagir, had personally come to take them out of their room.
