Chapter 1 - The Fall of the Three Crowns

"CLANG!"

"CHARGE!"

A middle-aged man wearing a crown raised his spear and ran toward the enemy forces surrounding his encampment.

"Uwoooooh!"

All the soldiers behind him charged forward, following their king, who advanced alone with a beautiful, gleaming blue spear shaped like a trident. In front of him, the enemy forces were lined up with spears pointed forward, ready to intercept. Behind the ranks of infantry soldiers, archers were seen preparing to release their arrows at the right moment. Behind the archers, several cavalry troops were visible, led by a middle-aged woman wearing a crown and a mask covering half of her face, dressed in splendid armor like a queen.

She drew her two twin axes and raised them high. When the king and his soldiers reached the center of the field, the woman, who looked like a queen, lowered her axes. The archers immediately released their arrows into the air. The king, running at the very front, saw thousands of arrows in the air, blotting out the sun. He raised his spear; a bright light shot out of the spear, forming a semi-circular shield of blue, like seawater, protecting him and his charging soldiers.

"Don't be afraid! Advance! Those arrows cannot hurt us!" he shouted to the soldiers running alongside him.

"Charge!… Long live King Alfonso!" shouted a knight commander who was now running beside the king.

"Uooooooh!" roared all the soldiers.

All the arrows that rained down from above, obscuring the sun, slammed into the semi-circular shield projected from the tip of Alfonso's spear. Without stopping, Alfonso continued to run, leading his troops forward. He was prepared for the worst, seeing that the enemy was right in front of his last line of defense. Rather than dying without a fight, he chose to stand until the final second of his kingdom's destruction. Finally, Alfonso and his troops managed to reach the enemy infantry and broke through.

The battle became unavoidable. With a single swing of his spear, Alfonso could strike down 10 enemy soldiers at once, as could the elite troops and commanders he directly led. 500 soldiers, including Alfonso himself, fought against 1,000 enemy troops, composed of infantry, archers, and cavalry. Casualties fell on both sides, but the strength of the elite force led by Alfonso could not be underestimated; within a few hours, they managed to significantly reduce the number of the enemy.

Alfonso finally managed to stand in front of the queen and her guards, breathing hard, his body covered in the blood of his victims. He pointed his spear at the queen.

"Finally, we meet, Queen Anabelle Gracela Regenas," Alfonso said.

"Greetings, King Alfonso Heldis Neptunia. You truly are as strong as your reputation suggests," Anabelle replied, removing her cloak.

Anabelle dismounted her horse and handed her cloak to one of her confused guards.

"Your Majesty," the guard said.

"I will fight him myself," Anabelle replied.

She walked forward, approaching Alfonso, passing the soldiers who lined up in front of her and who shifted aside as she walked past, holding her large, single-bladed axe. She stopped right in front of Alfonso. "CLICK!" She removed the mask covering half of her face. It turned out Anabelle's face was very beautiful, but a birthmark, like a burn scar, was visible on the half of her face that had been covered by the mask. Her blue eyes stared coldly at Alfonso in front of her.

"You look lovely, Your Majesty," Alfonso said.

"Thank you, but please don't pretend. I know you're disgusted by my face," Anabelle said.

"Hahaha, you are still the same as before," Alfonso said.

"No need to bring up the past. Right now, your kingdom and my empire are at war. There is no time for nostalgia," Anabelle said.

"Even if you were born like that, I still consider you beautiful," Alfonso said.

"No need for pleasantries, Alfonso. Come at me," Anabelle said, pointing her axe at Alfonso.

"WHOOSH… WHOOSH," Alfonso spun his spear and took his stance, just as Anabelle prepared to take hers. But suddenly, Anabelle looked up and stood straight. She placed her axe on her back.

"Hey… what do you mean by putting away your weapon?" Alfonso asked.

"CRACK!" Suddenly, a large, lightning-shaped sword with a white blade stained with blood pierced Alfonso's chest from behind. "GAAAH," Alfonso instantly coughed up fresh blood. He looked down and saw the white, cloud-like sword blade. "CLANG." Alfonso dropped his spear. Slowly, he turned around.

"Alicia… Cleo… Zenodia," Alfonso slowly said.

"Hello, my husband," Alicia replied.

"CRACK!" Alicia pulled out her sword. Alfonso immediately fell to his knees, clutching the wound in his chest with both hands. He looked up at a beautiful middle-aged woman wearing a crown, with long white hair and full armor.

"Queen… Alicia of Zenodia… wh-why are you here?" Alfonso asked.

"Hah… I just wanted to help my husband leave this world, hahahaha," Alicia replied.

"Y-you're my wife… didn't… didn't you help defend my kingdom?" Alfonso asked.

"Hmm… correct. Take a look," Alicia said, pointing behind him.

Alfonso's eyes widened, seeing his elite troops being massacred by a reinforcing force wearing white armor and waving the flag of the Zenodia Kingdom. He turned back to look at Alicia, who was now standing next to Anabelle. Alfonso realized he had been betrayed by his two childhood friends.

"Hahahahahaha," Alfonso laughed bitterly. "So you two were working together behind my back, huh?" Alfonso asked.

"Of course. The three kingdoms in this world are now only two," Anabelle replied.

"My husband is so innocent," Alicia replied, smiling smugly as she put her arm around Anabelle.

"So you two had always planned to destroy me, all this time… the secret movements in my kingdom, the nobles who suddenly changed factions, and the many merchants who left my kingdom—it was all because of you," Alfonso said.

"You finally figured it out. I didn't marry you because of our kingdom's politics. I planned with Anabelle to destroy you," Alicia said.

"But why?" Alfonso asked.

"The reason is simple: Alicia and I are sisters. Unfortunately, you came between us two and made us feud over you. Now that you are gone, Alicia and I don't need to fight anymore," Anabelle answered.

"W-what? You destroyed my kingdom and killed my innocent people just because of that reason?" Alfonso asked.

"Hmm, yep. Pretty much. We waited patiently for 15 years for the right moment," Alicia said.

Alfonso was truly desperate. The two women he cared about were now standing in front of him, having destroyed everything he owned, his kingdom, and soon his life, all for such a trivial reason. "Hahahahahaha," this time, he laughed bitterly. His hand reached for his spear, and with great difficulty, he struggled to stand up, using the spear to support him. "WHOOSH… WHOOSH," He spun his spear and prepared to attack.

"For Cronus!" he shouted, moving forward.

"For Soranus!" Alicia shouted, moving forward and thrusting her sword.

"For Terranus!" Anabelle shouted, drawing her axe.

Alfonso ran with his spear toward Alicia and Anabelle, who also charged forward with their respective weapons. Alicia stabbed her great sword into Alfonso's stomach, while Anabelle lodged her axe into Alfonso's shoulder. But Alfonso stabbed Anabelle's stomach with his trident spear and drew the sword at his waist, then stabbed Alicia's neck. "THUD." The three of them immediately fell to their knees in the middle of the battlefield.

"Argh," Alicia held Alfonso's shoulder, her voice failing because of the sword in her neck, but she smiled at Alfonso.

"So… this is how it ends," Anabelle said, coughing up fresh blood because of the trident spear lodged in her stomach.

"Hahaha… in the end, we die together. If we three are ever born again, I won't choose between you. Forgive me," Alfonso replied.

Alicia and Anabelle glanced at each other. They smiled, and in the end, the three of them embraced, holding onto each other even as life left their bodies together. The war stopped when the three kingdom leaders died on the battlefield.

All the soldiers from the three kingdoms gathered. The hostility ended; the soldiers began to help each other while paying respects to the three kingdom leaders, who lay peacefully embracing on the battlefield, their bodies soaked in blood.

After the Regenas Empire, the Neptunia Kingdom, and the Zenodia Kingdom were destroyed, the remaining high officials of the three kingdoms finally decided that there should be no more similar wars ending so sadly. A new religion was founded, worshiping the Sky God Soranus, the Ocean God Cronus, and the Land God Terranus.

They also established a new empire that governed all the former three kingdoms. The name of that empire was Vanadias, and the religion they championed was Esvana. The last war of the three kingdoms is remembered throughout history and became the starting point where darkness swallowed the world.
