Chapter 1 - The death of a god.

Someone once asked him "How does one kill a god?" At the time he had no answer, it was a thing no one could really answer. Gods back then were immortal forces of nature that could never be stopped. He had no idea then that he would be the one to find a way to kill a god.

He never thought he'd be the reason the outcasted immortals fell. He never even thought he'd be the final witness of one of those deaths. Yet he stood here now. Near the edge of a cliff in an undiscovered land. Overlooking the ocean, the cold ocean.

Cold just like the woman standing in front of him at the actual edge of the cliff. The woman whose stare would freeze the water beneath them if it could. Yet despite that, he could no longer feel that freezing look at the surface. He could only see the deeper misery beneath that look.

The way those eyes stared at the water like it was their owner's last salvation.

"Are you sure about this?" He couldn't help but ask. He knew the answer but he had to ask. To offer her one other salvation.

The woman, known to the world as the Mother of Monsters but to him just Lena, turned her stare to him. Now her back was facing the cold abyss below as she met his eyes.

"There's nothing left here for me." Lena responded the way she always did when he asked.

"You could find something" He repeated his part of the script once more. A useless thing, but it brought a small smile to Lena's face. Barely even noticeable in the drawing misery of her eyes.

"No I can't." She said, lifting that cursed bottle to her lips. That bottle full of the poison that would rip her apart from the inside out. Slowly dissolving her body just as it had done others.

He gave her the bottle a week ago. He regrets it now.

He does not voice his regrets however, as she downs the bottle in one gulp. He voices nothing as her smile turns from slightly amused to thankful. The largest smile he had ever seen from her.

He watched as Lena leaned back as the poison dripped from her mouth. Letting herself fall down to the abyss below. Letting the water take her.

He didn't try to stop her.

He just watched as the Mother of Monsters took her final breath of fresh air.

He did not watch as she opened her eyes again, not in the waters below.
