Jayden pov
I watched Izzy running through the crowd. She looked panicked. I turned to follow after her when Lexie grabbed my arm. I could feel her power traveling up my arm. I pulled back and broke the connection.
"What is it Jay? Why don't you trust me anymore?" Lexie asked
" Izzy told me that you worked for the government and that you were using me to get to the resistance."
She sighed like she was listening to a child.
"Oh sweetie. She is lying to you. How can you trust her? You met her a few days ago. You have known me for years." She said, placing her hand back on my arm.
Her power started to wrap around me again." While I have known her for only a few days she has not used her power on me needlessly. You have used it on me several times. You are even trying to use it on me now."
I pulled away and walked over to the microphone. Tapping the mic I said " Ladies and Gentlemen I have an important announcement to make."
A tense quiet filled the room. The orchestra stopped playing.
" I am officially annulling my argument with Lexie Langston. We have been having problems for a while now. We decided that it is time to part ways."
I put the mic down and walked out. People surrounded Lexie as she tried to make her way to me. Dad even tried to talk to me but I told him I will explain it later. I tried calling her as I made my way to the garage/ My car was missing. Luckily I put a tracker in it. It was sitting at an old motel not far from the manor.
When I arrived Katie was sitting at the table staring off into space.
"Where is Izzy" I asked
" She is gone." She said blankly
"What do you mean?" I asked
Katie turned to me with tears in her eyes " I betrayed her."
I sat down and said " Tell me what happened?"
"They came to me saying they can help Max. They told me that all I have to do is give Izzy a drink to make her sleep."
" Who are they?" I asked
" They said that they were her parents. They told me that she was dangerous." She cried " They forced me to. I had to help Max."
I held her as she cried. " Do you know where they took her?" I asked
She shook her head no. While she cried I made a few phone calls. I called in all of my favors to find her.
When Katie was done crying she asked " Why are you so worried about her?"
I paused because she had a point. I am calling in all my favors for a girl that I don't even know. From the moment I met her I was drawn to her.
"Honestly I don't know." I said running my hand through my hair. " I am just worried about her. I can't explain it."
She nodded and said " She needs someone like that. I can't be that person for her anymore."
She got up and headed to the door as she was about to step out. She turned back and said " Tell Izzy that it was great being her friend and that I wish her the best."
"Where are you going?" I asked
"I don't know yet. But I am a liability for her." She said
I sat in the hotel room for several hours trying to figure out what to do. I canceled my engagement because of everything. I ran to find someone that I barely know. This is not like me at all. It is almost ten and she hasn't been gone long. If anyone could get me answers fast it would be the underground.
The drive there took forever. There was hardly anyone here at this hour. Sitting in a small stall was my grandmother. She smiled when she saw me. She pulled me into a big hug.
"What is wrong sweetheart?" She asked
" There is someone missing. I need to find her." I said sitting down beside her.
" What is she like?" She asked
" I don't know. I met her a few days ago." I said
"Ah." She smiled, " Love at first sight."
"What."
" You will understand in due time. Now tell me what you do know about this young lady." she said, patting my shoulder.
I told her what I knew about Izzy. I described her. We talked well into the morning. Granny promised that she would do what she could for me.
The next few days were torched. I stayed in the safe house to avoid everyone. I am not ready to face everything. A golden strand wafted under the floor. It wrapped around my leg. It felt familiar. This was my first time actually seeing something like this. Lexie showed me her weave. She told me that all magic is blue. This one was golden. I reached down to grab it. Images flashed before my eyes. I was looking through someone's eyes and I felt their pain. Then the weave showed me a location. In my heart I knew that it was where Izzy was. Without a second thought I headed that way.
By the time I got to her she was barely awake. She lost weight in just a few days. She looked up at me with empty eyes. She groaned as I picked her up.
" It is going to be okay." I whisper to her.
I called Harry and said " I need a doctor."
"What is going on Jay?" He asked
I explained everything to him as we made out way out. There are not too many guards, mostly scientists.
"Bring her to my place." He said
She groaned in my back seat. I prayed that she would be okay. If she survived this I am going to get to know her.
The doctor was already there when I arrived. As soon as Harry saw her he said " Son of a Bitch. What did he do to her."
As the doctor worked on her I asked " Do you know her?"
" She is my niece. " He said, staring into space. " I tried to help her. But her father kept me from her. I tried to keep tabs on her but I eventually lost her."
" Do you know what they did to her?" I asked
" Not really. I do know they said a few times that she was responding well to treatment. "
