Chapter 17 - Licking With Passion, Licking With Purpose, Licking With No Way Out

Rem and Ram's efficiency never failed.

In less than five minutes, they'd juiced a heap of grass into a tall glass of bright green liquid and set it before the guest.

"Your grass juice, sir," Rem said gently.

"Thank you," replied Fei Yangyang, bowing his head politely.

Ron blinked. Shouldn't that be "arigato, Rem-san"? he thought dryly.

With no wolves in sight, the bronze-skinned ram finally relaxed.

He lifted the glass and drank half in one go.

Gulp, gulp…

"The grass here's so fresh," he sighed. "Not like ours on the prairie — we have to eat the old, dried stuff every day."

Ron chuckled. "If you like it, I can pack some for you before you leave."

Fei Yangyang looked toward the moon and gave a bitter smile. "No… I still prefer the grass from home.

It's not as fresh, but at least she and I… eat the same grass."

Ron: "..."

Good lord.

A true devotee of the Simp Sect — licking with devotion, licking with poetry, licking till the soul melts.

"Got something on your mind?" Ron asked.

Fei Yangyang nodded. "Not really. More like… a bad joke."

He downed the rest of his juice, then pointed at the bottles behind the counter.

"Could I have a drink?"

Ron poured him a shot of Erguotou, setting the glass down.

Fei Yangyang sniffed it curiously. "Smells nice, but tastes harsh."

He took a sip anyway, grimacing slightly.

"Today, Mei Yangyang was captured by Grey Wolf. I rushed to save her without thinking… and ended up caught myself."

His voice trembled. "We were both in the boiling pot. It was painful, but… I was happy.

At least if I died, I'd die beside her."

Tears pooled in his eyes.

"She must've been touched, right?" Rem asked softly, hopeful.

Fei Yangyang shook his head, bitterness spreading across his face. "She cried and told me not to stay in the same pot."

The twins fell silent. Their pity froze mid-air.

"I wasn't sad," Fei Yangyang said calmly. "I just held her above my head — so maybe… she could live a little longer."

Ron, Rem, and Ram nearly choked trying not to laugh.

No wonder she didn't want to share the pot with you, genius.

Steam burns hotter than water — you're literally offering yourself as mutton stew.

Ron steadied his voice. "So… are you thinking of giving up?"

Impossible. No simp in history has ever turned back — well, except Tokikake, and that took divine intervention.

Fei Yangyang's eyes firmed. "No. I tell these stories to remind myself not to quit.

All of this… it's her test for me."

He slammed back another drink, cheeks reddening.

The alcohol hit fast. His gaze turned glassy as memories flooded in — her laughter, her scolding, her indifference.

Catching butterflies for her while she set them free with Xi Yangyang.

Getting struck by lightning while she fussed over someone else.

Trying to study together and being told he's in the way.

Protecting her only to be rejected, again and again.

Rem whispered, "Master, he's so pitiful."

"Pitiful?" Ron sighed. "He's not unloved without reason."

The sisters blinked.

Ron shrugged. "He once pointed out Mei Yangyang's pimples in public.

Called her scarf 'outdated.'

When he gave her flowers, she happened to be missing a front tooth — he laughed, took the bouquet back, and made jokes for a week.

And worst of all—" he grimaced— "he flicked his snot at her. Who could love that?"

The twins' faces twisted in disgust. Without another word, they turned and left the counter.

Gross, their silence screamed.

Tokikake's devotion was patient and heavy.

Black Tiger's was tragic and self-sacrificing.

But Fei Yangyang's? His was impulsive, clueless, and fueled entirely by hormones.

How could that kind of "love" ever reach a goddess?

Suddenly, Fei Yangyang slammed the table, eyes blazing.

"It's all Grey Wolf's fault!" he roared.

"If he didn't capture Mei Yangyang, she wouldn't have said those words!

If not for him, our village wouldn't live in fear!"

He staggered up, drunk fire surging. "I'll kill him myself!"

Ron quickly intercepted him. "Calm down. It's the middle of the night. If you get caught now, no one's saving you."

Fei Yangyang growled, "I don't care! If he's gone, the grassland will finally know peace!

And when that happens…"

His voice softened, eyes dreamy.

"I'll be the hero of Sheep Village. Mei Yangyang will finally look at me… differently."

Ron: "…"

So it's not justice — it's just lust dressed in armor.

Before he could comment, the System chimed:

[Ding—Customer Fei Yangyang has completed his confession.]

[Ding—Related subject: Grey Wolf. He will soon visit the tavern.]

[Selectable: Fei Yangyang's physique, training experience, Fire Qi energy.]

Ron squinted. "What good are physique and gym tips supposed to do me…?"

[Ding—Detected intense hatred. Hatred also qualifies as emotional resonance.]

Ah. That explained the "bond." Hate was, after all, just love's scorched twin.

"Fine," Ron said. "Select Fire Qi and fuse it."

[Ding—Congratulations, host has acquired Fei Yangyang's Fire Qi energy.]

Power flooded his body like molten lava. His skin flushed red, steam rising faintly off him.

But instead of pain, it felt like soaking in a hot spring — intense, cleansing.

Fire Qi, he realized, was something Fei Yangyang would only awaken in the future — a pure combat energy, offense and defense in one.

Ron flexed his hand. A violet flame burst to life, licking at the air.

The heat singed Fei Yangyang's wool, the faint smell of roast mutton filling the tavern.

It sobered him instantly. "I… might've overreacted," he mumbled. "Thanks for stopping me."

He straightened his coat, eyes steady again. "But someday, I'll make her love me. That's my conviction."

Leaving a stack of Berries on the counter, he waved once and disappeared into the night.

Ron watched him go, muttering under his breath,

"I wonder if, when they grow up, Mei Yangyang will say: 'Fei Yangyang, let's get married.'

And Xi Yangyang will just sigh—'I like married women.'"

He paused, then slapped his mouth. "That's… probably not something I should've said."

He sighed deeply. "Keep this up, and all those childhood memories are going to turn into trauma."
