Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: Someone missing

 AWAL SHABAN (POV)

Out with my twin brother Sani protecting the mosque as usual. As usual?... I chuckle to myself, those words feel familiar yet unfamiliar as the same time. The world as we know it changed in the blink of an eye which is almost a month now, our school has been sealed off from the rest of the world. Neither our phones nor any amount of prayer seem to reach them. We have been battered continuously as even we have divided amongst ourselves, the teachers were the first to act by seeking refugee in section A which comprises of the food storage and better accommodation. At first they treated us normally until cracks in their facade began to appear. Some teachers forced themselves on the female students secretly while others controlled us like dogs. That's how things were in the first two weeks.

But it all changed when we the students fought back, we divided ourselves and conquered separate sections. The Muslims males such as myself conquered section D with brute force. To be fair the Muslim males are much a smaller in number but we are physically stronger, as we won the section over we brought our Muslim women to our side to keep them safe. Though most teachers treated students harshly only one man ever treated us normally. His name is Mister Adam, a man who's old enough to be our grandfather yet strong and wise.

As of the others( which we refer to us the Christians now ) they conquered section B and C ruling us they pleased. Whatever they do I plan to not know, the constant booming of loud speakers and the constant smell of a someone stabbed to death. However thing goes we Muslim must remain us one.

*Kwak

"Ouch", I almost scream in pain having lost my focus as my brother knocked my head heavily.

"What was that for?" I asked though I already know his reason for such a hard knock. I can almost feel the area breathing out in agony.

"Get your mind out from the past Awal", he said wearing our signature teasing smile. One which he wears everyday for no particular reason.

"But was the knock really necessary?" I ask again wanting to know more about his options.

"Well it was between slapping you and kicking you in the groin. So I had to improvise", he said. His confident smile slowly getting on my nerves.

"Did it hurt?" He says in a rhetorical manner as he backs off slowly knowing my habit of bringing him for payback.

I make a swift move to grab his collar but he swiftly shifts his weight to his left side then burst with enough speed to be ahead of me in just a second. I grit my teeth knowing full well how difficult the bastard is going to be hard to catch. I crack my knuckles and he does a little up and downs.

"I am going to get you for the knock", I say and lunge myself at him.

"You can try", he says as he slides between my legs.

That's it the only ever true difference between us, my strength and intelligence while he too shoulders his speed and creativity. But just like most twins we have studied each other for far too long. He makes a slip up as he burst to the left side and I follow suit. He tries to flee but I grab his collar quick enough to stop his run.

"Let me tell you something", he said as I pull him closer. Drawing him nearer as my other hand prepares itself for a clean slap.

"Hahaha", a chuckle from the shadows draws our attention. I release my brother and steel myself for whoever it maybe. Sani rubs his neck since I may have squeezed him a bit too hard (he deserved it), I feel sorry (of course I don't).

"You guys still quarrel even in times like these", a boy appears from the shadows. It's Naram, the only Christian the Muslims treat right.

He is still normal and calm just like always but that is the weird part of it all. It's like he already had an idea about this calamity.

"You came just in time", Sani said with gratitude as he scrambled away from me clearly wanting to be safe from me.

Naram chuckles at Sani's act.

"I need to tell you something", he said a tiny of seriousness laced in his voice. This is the only time I have seen him this serious was when...

"You can't remember the rest right?" Naram hinted when I reached a realization. Someone we know isn't here with us. Someone who is very important.
