Chapter 3 - chapter 3

( unknown pov )

The song in my earphones was just starting to fade when I leaned toward the mirror, droplets of water clinging to my face. I rubbed them away, staring at my own reflection — same straight brown hair, same brown eyes. Another day, same school, same routine.

I sighed, pulled out one earbud, and splashed cold water on my face again. But when I looked up this time — everything changed.

The mirror didn't show the old, dull restroom anymore.

Instead, it showed an endless hall of sinks, stretching into the distance — silver basins repeating, vanishing into a white haze. The lights above flickered softly, and the air suddenly felt colder. Too cold.

I blinked, wiped my eyes, and looked behind me. The restroom was gone. Only that same hallway now — long, empty, echoing faintly like it was breathing.

"What the hell…" I muttered under my breath. I yanked my earphones out completely, the silence slamming into me like a wall. My heart began to beat faster.

I shouted — once, twice — "Hello?! Anyone here?"

No answer. Only the faint hum of lights that didn't make sense.

I took a few cautious steps forward. Every footstep bounced off the tiled walls, distorted, delayed, like the echoes weren't just reflections of sound but something alive.

Minutes passed. I found no doors, no windows — just more halls. Each turn led to another impossible stretch of sinks, mirrors, and floor tiles that reflected too much light.

This world instead of that old messy restroom was in perfect order , it was so clean that I could practically see my face on the tile below

I kept moving forward in hope of a exit

Then, the first dead end came

It was a wide chamber lined with urinals along every wall, a single sink standing in the center. The floor shimmered faintly, too clean, too sterile. I touched the sink, and a chill shot up my arm. The air felt heavier here — thicker.

"Okay," I whispered to myself, "this is messed up."

I just took another path this time and then I found a pool.

Narrow, barely two meters wide, stretching endlessly into the distance. The water was still — too still — like glass. But there was something beneath it.

Something that moved.

I stared for a full minute before my pulse jumped and my body moved on its own. Whatever was under there — I didn't want to find out. I turned and ran, fast, legs pumping, arms swinging, lungs burning. I didn't stop to think.

Two hours passed like that. I had no idea where I was or how far I'd gone. My throat was dry, my chest tight, and then—

An echo.

it scared the hell out of me

My blood froze. For a second, I thought it was one of those things from the pool. My breath hitched, and panic surged through me. I yelled — out of fear or instinct, I didn't even know.

I screamed like some dying animal

Then I ran forward with my full strength

I burst into a massive hall — dozens of restroom stalls lined up neatly, all closed. The air was thicker here .

Then, suddenly, one of the stall doors creaked open.

I stopped, it scared me

A boy stepped out. Distant, but clearly there — someone alive, someone real.

"Hey!" I shouted. My voice bounced back, louder, warped by the echo. "Wait there!"

He looked up — startled — and immediately bolted in the opposite direction.

"Are you serious?!" I yelled, sprinting after him. My shoes squeaked against the tile as I picked up speed. "I'm human too!"

He didn't stop. But my legs were built for this. I'd been a track runner since middle school — regional-level sprinter, top of the athletics club. My lungs burned, but my body knew the rhythm. The chase sharpened me, focused me.

He turned a corner, stumbled slightly, and that was it. I caught up. My hand landed on his shoulder, firm but not rough.

"Got you!" I panted. "Stop running, damn it — I'm human! Just like you!"

He fell , breathing hard, and slowly turned to face me.

I stared at the boy who'd caught me — tall, built like an athlete, sweat glistening on his forehead, eyes wide but… honest. No monster. No distortion.

" Are you a fucking idiot , you scared me ?" I asked carefully.

He nodded quickly. " I was excited to see a fellow human , that's all man , you are not in this situation alone "

My breathing slowed " do you even use your brain "I said finally. " what if I was a skinwalker "

" BAAM "

He punched me in the face , " Fuck " i screamed

" Why the hell did you do it " i said while placing my hand on the spot where he hit

He said while keeping a stern face " just confirming whether you are a human or a skinwalker"?"

" do you have a problem in your brain , man "

" No " he said in the same tone , while continuing by saying " Dominic kane by the way , 11 A "

" Aaron , 12 B " I said while still looking at him

For a moment, we both stood there, the silence between us heavy but strangely comforting. Two humans in an inhuman place.

"So you came through the restroom too?" I asked.

"Yeah. I was just washing my face. Blinked once, and boom — whole world turned into some freakish hall of sinks."

I nodded, thinking. "Same kind of setup then. It's not random."

Dominic tilted his head, clearly not interested in analysis. "Man, I don't care what it is. I just wanna get out. You've seen an exit?"

"No. I just got here ."

He groaned. " Then do you have any idea on how to escape this hellhole ."

" Nah, but I will find it " I said in the most enthusiastic way possible to motivate him and to indirectly become the leader of duo

We started walking, cautious steps echoing against the floor. The sound of our shoes filled the empty air.

"Guess we stick together," Dominic said. "You look like the smart one. I'll protect you if something happens."

I allowed a small smile. "Deal."

We walked on, side by side, two high schoolers trying to find a way out of a place that shouldn't exist

Hoping that there may be a exit somewhere.
