Solace's POV
"What do you mean the body is missing?" Solace's voice cut through the phone like a blade, her knuckles white as she gripped the device.
"We hit her clean, ma'am. But she was standing on the bridge when we took the shot. She went over the side into the water below."
"Are you completely incompetent? You shoot someone and then just watch them disappear into a river?"
Silence stretched across the line.
Solace yanked at her hair as she stalked across her bedroom floor. Nothing was going according to plan. Not a single thing. Why was it so difficult to eliminate one woman?
"Find her body," she commanded, stopping at the window. "I don't care what you believe about her condition. I want proof she's dead."
"We've got divers searching the area, ma'am. It shouldn't take long to locate her."
"It better not. Because if you fail me again, you won't see the rest of your payment."
She slammed the phone down with a violent curse.
