Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: A Cold Beginning

You know that feeling you get right before you fall asleep?

For a brief moment, it's like you stop existing—like you're not a person, not even a thought. Just… nothing.

Yeah, that's exactly what it felt like.

Until I opened my eyes.

My vision was blurry at first, like looking through foggy glass. Cold air bit against my skin, and a strange echo surrounded me. I tried to look around—well, as much as a baby can—and noticed stone walls, wooden beams, and a giant cross.

"…A church?"

Great. So I really was reincarnated. But why did they leave me lying here, in front of the entrance like some abandoned donation box?

Sigh. So this is my "second chance," huh? And my starting point is abandonment. Rough luck for a reincarnator.

I really hope someone finds me soon. If not, I'll probably freeze to death. Why the hell is it so cold?!

…Oh. Right. I'm a baby now. I probably shouldn't be swearing.

No, wait—focus! Should I cry? That's what babies do to get attention, right?

Just as I was about to test my new lungs—

Skrtt.

The door creaked open.

"Today really is cold," a male voice grumbled. "I need to put on something warmer before I leave. Hmm? …An infant? I see another one has been abandoned."

Footsteps approached. My tiny body was lifted off the cold ground, wrapped in a coarse but warm cloth. I was carried inside by a man wearing priestly robes.

"Ummm… ummm… ummmmm."

My baby brain was lagging, but my grown mind was racing. Why does this priest look so familiar? I've seen that face somewhere before…

Then it hit me.

Oh, f— No, wait. Oh, crap.

It's the priest from Black Clover.

My heart started pounding in my tiny chest. Boop. Boop. Boop. Easy there, heart—I'm not as tough as I used to be.

Was this excitement? Fear? Maybe a bit of both.

I had been reincarnated… not just anywhere, but in a fantasy world I actually knew.
